The first image of any Superman movie an audience should be shown is the classic _hands on hips, standing tall and proud._ Show us your Superman and make us go "wow". Bonus points if you can imagine this Superman flying to either the John Williams score, the S: TAS theme or the 1940s Fleischer Studios theme. The suit: Superman wears tights. The better versions and stories of Superman are when he’s in his prime, well seasoned, and experienced. I hate that these stories always get skipped over just to self-impose other preferences on people.
I'm getting tired of that muted colored motorcycle suit look. Spiderman has the brightly colored tights and he looks awesome. There's no reason Supes can't have it, too.
There’s a rumour that this film will be a reverse Kingdom Come story, with Superman coming into a world with nihilistic morally grey heroes and inspiring them in the end.
Not american here, but I wonder if people who are ok to desaturate the costume colors would be as ok as to do the same with the american flag, because Superman's costume over the decades became such an icon that technically inspires the same hope and brightness as the flag (a sort of deputy flag so to speak XD).
Ditch the MCU lines. Ditch the colar. Superman ought to have a wide open colar that exposes some of his clavicles. And David Corenswet got jacked for this role. His traps are huge. He'd look more powerful with the open colar area.
In an alternate timeline, we would have been given a shot of Superman leaving an out of order phonebooth (possibly in a neighborhood scheduled for demolition). He would wear a vibrant costume that contrasts the dour surroundings and mixes the sensibilities of Reeves/Fleischer and Bruce Timm's adaptations. Finally, it would be directed by Brad Bird.
It looks like James Gunn watched that scene from Kill Bill vol 2 where Bill was giving his analysis of how Superman sees Earth people and took it too literally. I don't think James Gunn likes superheroes, just the idea of them. He thinks he's clever like Garth Ennis but he's clearly not. WB is still run by idiots.
In one interview, James Gunn said that he considers superheroes to be frivolous and stupid. And that's why he took up the Guardians of the Galaxy at one time, because they are not superheroes in the usual sense, but space travelers-adventurers (you can agree with the Guardian dream).

There are some posts online where fans adjusted this picture to look more like Christopher Reeve's suit and a few other variations. They look much better.

When I look at this suit reveal all I think is "That is not Superman" So we're really getting another deconstruction/different take and not a real Superman movie...
“They know what they’re doing.” Idk, I don’t think they do looking at the box office and what they have been releasing. I don’t think they know what they are doing.
I don't like that there's going to be other superheros in it. I could see having them if this was like Superman's third movie in this universe or something. Its his first movie, it should focus totally on him.
I personally believe the suit looks off because he’s sitting in a dark room hunched over and it’s battle damaged. The suit itself actually is really blue as you can see on the teaser S photo even lookin at the full suit you can see bright blue on the collar where a small part hasn’t been damaged
James Gunn belongs to eccentric artists who can make normal products, but if there is someone who could direct their energy in the right direction (at Marvel, for James, Feige and some other bosses from Marvel Studio and Disney were such leaders). Unsupervised, they start doing things for themselves without looking at the rest, and unfortunately no one is standing over Hann now. PS: I liked his Guardians of the Galaxy, but Suicide Squad 2021 was already much weaker and not as good, to put it mildly (I was able to watch the movie only the second time).
This suit has the MCU problem of too many lines that don't do anything. It looks techy but human techy rather than alien techy ( I don't think this would be something his mom makes either)
This I expected highly. It's just that executives at DC/WB who own these characters fail and/or refuse to understand these iconic heroes. They go on hiring people who also do not care to understand them and just want to prioritize their own vision and trauma at the expense of these characters. The suit on the other hand, should be made with that soft fabric to showcase the natural muscularity of Superman, thus visually representing his pure strength. Giving him a dark colored rubber costume filled with embarrassing muscle padding, shin guards, and over the shoulder cape ends make him look like a caricature of Superman and not just some overarmored dictator. The actor David Corenswet did not work out for nothing so he can look like Hans and Frans from SNL instead of an actual classic muscleman. As for the image, he just looks indifferent and negligent over the incoming disaster, like he does not want to be Superman and that is not his attitude towards being a hero. No wonder why he's being jokingly referred to as GalootMan by FAN-MAN
Not every story needs this hyper focus on conflict. Let's look at the classic James Bond, Indiana Jones or Star Wars. These movies focus on the sense of wonder first and foremost. Why can't we have that for Superman? Where is the sense of wonder? A movie like My Neighbor Tortoro is really subtle when it comes to conflict. And it works. Why can't we have that? A movie like Le Havre flips the conflict on its head, subverting expectations. IT WORKS. Why not? Why do people always want to take one story template and use it for all story types?
The big thing that bothers me about this reveal of the suit is how antithetical it is to Frank Quitely’s rendition of Superman. Instead of a short and flowing cape, he has a long and droopy looking one. Instead of bright and bold red and blues, it’s muted reds and blues. Instead of the sun or big blue sky hanging over him and with a gentle smile , he’s in this darkly lit room, slumped on his couch, and with a look of frustration and apathy. Now not all of this sounds bad on its own, but considering how many times Gunn has reminded us this movie is inspired by All Star Superman, nothing about this first look gives me that feeling. It looks like just another James Gunn movie with the way it’s framed in a comedic fashion, with Superman looking like he’s clocking in to another 9-5 while the world is in danger just outside.
I have zero desire to go the Gaza Strip. Fanboys: "Why not? You've never even been there. How do you already know you don't like Gaza if you've never been? You have to go to Gaza to say anything about it. Give it a chance! Look for the positives! Don't judge it until you go!"
I’m gonna be honest just that pic alone is better than man of steel like that picture shows that Superman is you’re average human and that he’s not alien and he’s got humanity where Zack’s was just this edge lord alien who was ass
I never wanted Zack Snyder's DCEU, and I sure as hell DO NOT want James Gunn's DCU. The only DC Cinematic Universe I want on screen is Bruce Timm's and Paul Dini's, taken directly from their actual work on the animated universe back in 90s and 00s. As for James Gunn, he needs to go back to Troma Entertainment where he belongs, making absurd and stupid low budget B-movies with Lloyd Kaufman. That's right, all of that stupid wacky cringe comedy in his Marvel movies, he brought over from his days at Troma Entertainment.
The only way you're ever truly going to bring Superman back into these postmodern atheist, nihilist, relativist, materialist times, is you need to give him a metaphysical, theological and biblical worldview bordering on Christianity, or even going all in and making it Christianity, and actually make that a focal point of his character, and his reasons why he believes in what he believes, and the reasons why always tries to do all the right things in the world, for himself, and for mankind. But, they will never, ever go there. Why? Because they themselves are sad, upset, godless nihilists and materialists, who have no religious or biblical framework to go off of that makes them humble, merciful, virtuous, and morally objective people.
I had hopes for at least a decent Superman movie, but the photo and the suit design are garbage and now I have no faith on this project. So much for the "bright and hopeful" Superman.
This suit looks too similar to the Man of Steel suit. I saw posts online that adjusted the suit to look more like the Christopher Reeve suit, with a sunny background. It worked, because Superman's casual demeanor in the photo made sense that way. Why do Warners and their directors get such jollies with this dark, miserable interpretation? Joss Whedon's Justice League had its problems, sure, but at least Superman was acting like Superman for the short time he was in the movie, and he was wearing his brightly colored suit. But what did fans want instead? The Chris Nolan-inspired suit from ZSJL.
