I'm a hiker for more than 20 years, I have encountered Amorphophallus titanum for many times, but never seen it when it blooms with my own eyes because of its infrequent bloom period. You guys did a good job, and you worth the valuable experience.
yeah I've seen this flower in the Philippines, I thought it is it's just the way it looks closed, never seen it opens and avoiding it bc of the smell..
@cobaltblue2756 No, different species. The suweg you mean is "Walur" or "Amorphophallus variabilis". Relatively smaller and shorter with height between 0.5 - 1.5 meters, brighter color (light yellow, red, blue, etc), grows mostly in coastal areas, and is easy to cultivate. Meanwhile, "Amorphophallus titanium" is much bigger, can reach more than 3 meters in height, darker color (deep purple), mostly grows wild in the canopy of tropical forests at an altitude of 120 - 365 meters above sea level, and is difficult to cultivate.
I would legit just watch a full series dedicated to just the filming of these documentaries. It's incredible what they have to go through just to get that shot. And I'm pretty convinced that there is just more footage that never makes it to screen either.
From the bottom of my heart I would like to say thank you for the great work you guys have done… the video is only 7 minutes, but the whole process takes a lot of time and effort…. Thank you BBC
Nature has its ways!!! Beautiful efforts by this crew! Imagine if we as humans place as much effort, as this film crew to see a flower blossom, to bring world 🕊️ peace!!!!
@@renren981 there a two type of Bunga Bangkai, Titan Arum ( in this video ) and Raflesia Arnoldi. I think Raflesia Arnoldi is more flower like than Titan Arum, even if both smel like corpse.
This behind the scenes footage has everything, drama, comedy, suspense, friendship, and perhaps a romance of love story from the cinematographer and the flower. This itself could be a good movie
I LOVE the behind the scenes videos!!! That crew went thru hell to get the footage of the corpse flower blooming and their hard work paid off! WOW!!! How stunning!!! 👏😊

I know someone in Australia who films wildlife. He and his girlfriend go out to a location and camp out for weeks just to get the right picture or film. So it is not as easy as it sounds or looks. It takes a special type of person for this work. As it can be frustrating.
Wow, what a journey you guys been through for filming it, kudos to the team and locals who helped! Still hoping for my chance to see this flower in person
I've seen one in west sumatera too, but unfortunately it's not on it full blooms.. we got there 1-2 days after the flowers bloom so it's start to close it petals..
You did hear at the start that it bloomed once every ten years, right? Not to mention without support from capable environment, it may not bloom again ever. It usually spawned at random place.
It seems odd that most of this video consists of camera setups, rain, and other annoyances. But the actual flower blooming is only worth a few seconds.
Gw tau kalau langka, tapi depan rumah banyak anjr bunga bangkai yg panjang kaya tombak gini. Tumbuh nya alami tumbuh gitu aja. Dulu pas kecil di gebuk gebuk pake kayu. Jaman nangkep capung pake kayu sama plastik kerupuk transparan, jaman nangkep capung pake getah nangka😂.

Im from indonesia, i dont know why the reason team must go to middle of jungle, mybe to see it from its natural habitat, but if you want see it upclose we had it in our garden, like kebun raya bogor and other places
I watch these nature programs constantly and more and more I think about the people that filmed them. The lengths they go through are immeasurable❤

You wouldn't. They're literally showing how they filmed it in the video lol
Sir David Attenborough always delivers! Also thanks for the hard work of the crew!

Watching the filming process was an even better show and more exciting/engaging than watching the flower bloom itself 😂
The ‘corpse flower’ truly captures the mystery of the natural world.
Thank you BBC Earth for bringing us closer to the wonders that few people have witnessed! 🌍
Oh gosh the working they made to just having one blooming flower is HUGE..
Thank you BBC 😍
Especially the crew behind it..
You are all rocks!!
Beautiful Indonesian rain forest.. in local that flower we called " bunga bangkai"
Does that mean corpse flower/fruit? That sounds a lot like Tagalog, "bungang bangkay" means corpse fruit.

How it choose to grow, etc..
