  • The Bento Buster, a Kiwi in Japan, shows how to made a New Zealand Bacon & Egg Pie - It's a Kiwi classic! To bake the pie in the the oven, prepare it as in the video in a pie dish then back at 200c for 25 - 30 minutes or until the pastry is flaky and golden brown. I used a Japanese pie maker called My Bistro (only $12)
    Ingredients:
    Puff pastry pie sheets
    eggs
    mushrooms
    green peas
    slices of bacon
    finely chopped green onion
    pepper to taste
    Egg wash
beat 1 egg and 1 Tbs water
    Amazon Japan link:
    My Bistro Pie maker Machine
APIX パイメーカー My Bistro レシピブック付き ブラウン APA-282-BR

it's about $35 but I also saw them at Bic Camera the electronics online shop for $12

My mother used to live in New Zealand. When I was a kid, she would make bacon and egg pies, either with flaky pastry, or with normal short crust pastry. There were never any peas, or onions or mushrooms or sauce. Once I tried to make it, adding sliced Spanish chorizo to the bacon, and it tasted amazing. Next time, I will try your method.

Nice! i made one recently on TH-cam shorts. I got a commercial pie tin from NZ. This combo of ingredients is what my mother used so I like it. Peas are a bit controversial but they as a burst of sweetness. I see in NZ some cafes as a dollop of eg tomato relish in too. I haven’t done that yet. I’d rather it in the side or with ketchup. Shortcut pastry for base then puff pastry for top is what I’m doing in my individual pie tins. My mum used puff pastry for the base and top.
