Time for a short story - so there I am, fighting this guy with basic weapons. Got a shield buster to wreck his blue bar, blade to get intimate, rockets for the hell of it. Fight is going great, have him below 50 percent of health. But as he hits around 20 percent, me shield buster goes dry. This is bad, for my own health is also not looking so good anymore. His shield is back to full, and I am growing anxious. We do the dance, and I am just desperately trying to knock off his shield one last time. Even then, no guarantee I will be able to deplete his remaining 20 percent in time, but it is worth a shot - better than giving up. Each barrage of red death chips away at my coat of paint, but me dodging persists. As the rockets land, I barely manage to dodge his flames. Then, a quick strike with the blade does it - the shield goes down. He staggers, the blade recharges quickly enough for two additional slashes. However, he is still kicking with about five percent remaining. Another barrage lands, leaving me with about as much. I know that time is running out. If his shield goes back online, I am done. Could happen any second. A retreat; yet, another barrage comes out. This is the end - but somehow I manage to dodge them all. And then it happens, the greatest moment of them all, like two Samurai starring each other down. We are close, so I put everything into one last blade attack. Suddenly, he does the same and comes in for a slash. Time seems to freeze, although it all happens in a flash. As my blade rushes forth, so does his. The hit connects - and the scene slows down, indicating that he is defeated. He is right in front of me, his fiery blade visible - but mine connected just a fraction of a second faster. I look at my sliver of health and cannot believe it. Bewilderment soon turns into joy as he explodes, the closeness of it all filling the screen with mechanical gore. And since I attacked twice, but the first hit was enough to defeat him, said second attack cuts through his exploding body in continuous slow-motion. Since I am a casual gamer, there is no recorded footage of me victory. But man, it felt so epic. The kind of moment you only experience once. (PS: You might also see this comment elsewhere, for I wanted to share the story as much as possible - cheers ♥)
Same moment when beating helicopter boss after two hours, where almost one and three fourths hours are ignoring the stagger meter, used up all repair kit, and only little AP left
Shiver me timbers!!!!! You have described what I felt, It wasn't my skill that beat him...just sheer will to push through and not pussy out. I believe you! I don't need footage. I have mine to look back onto.
Balteus is the first meaningful boss fight in any game, in years. Meaningful on so many levels. Seeing yourself get better every attempt. The kill or be killed aspect is fantastic. Realizing that this song is not about the boss fight at all, but how its that Ayre desperately needs you to win. The satisfaction of beating a truly Difficult boss after it felt impossible. They absolutely killed it with this game.
Christ, I can hear Ayre in my head and I'm not even playing the game. I already completed the game 3 times and got all endings, but I can still hear her.
I love this track so much. It's got this feel to it, the name you stole, Raven, you ironically have started to earn after defeating Balteaus. I don't know it's like 621 is being pushed to his absolute limit and superceded his limits as the fight comes to an end.
Personally I feel like it's more like the world coming into focus, like you've seen a new colour for the first time since becoming what you are now. You've been given this enlightenment, and now you have to earn it and fight for your life. Makes me think 621's brain damage has been mended in some way, especially since after Walter says that we spoke about Ayre You know?
I had this exact same feeling especially when this part starts 1:15 and 2:48it’s like you said overcoming the boss is a milestone for us and the character
@@Heedfulconch3 Yeah, I think the Contact began to heal his fried brain by energizing it with Coral energy, and inducing not just healing and recovery, but access to new and profound abilities. If someone asked me to describe flow state, I’d put them in a chair, give them my controller and Balteus to fight, and tell them I’ll be back in an hour. I can’t describe it. I can only replicate the circumstances. But this song? This is what won the fight for me. I’ve never felt so in sync with what the screen was telling me.
In my run, Balteus was completelly destroying my whole existence for, at the very least the 7 tries, but then i started to figure out how to avoid most of his attacks and how to propperly inflict damage to him, then at the 10th try, i reached his second phase for the first time, and let me tell you, when this part hits 2:47 and you start to beat the absolute shit of this wheel of death and frustration... the dopamine rush that you feel is insane, i pretty much defeated him at the same moment the song ends, good god, i will never forget that moment.
I love how this goes from a pure dread feeling as you're introduced to the first real clusterfuck Fromsoft enemy of the game, it's oppressive and full of fear. But as you get better at the fight, the more you start to make even trades with Balteus and the more you start to push him, the more this becomes a chorus of hope.

True Balteus DID beat the everliving crap out of me for half an hour on my first playthrough. But I cannot deny I had legit fun fighting the guy, the music really helps making a first impression for this moment too.
Stubbornly fought Balteus with the starter build because I blamed myself and not my AC for my defeat. Then after three hrs of clashing with it my skills and reaction time were honed. According to the Official artbook Balteus, at least the first encounter, is made by RaD. Knowing how Carla fights in her AC, this isn't surprising at all.
Got it on the 5th try, Balteus really doesn't hold back punches. The first time seeing that missile barrage with this track pumping in the background is just *chefs kiss*
Yall realize its the main theme at 2x speed yet? Smoother mixing helps masks some distortions youd generally get and some added elements to help that effect but its at its core the main theme.
Don't go rattling on your controls, keep a slow pace and you'll get really used to it like Quick boosting and assault boosting at the right timing of your spacing, especially lock-on and melee control
to ad ot this if the previous bosses didnt convey the message, BALTEUS will: you need to be the agressor ot minimize pressure on yourself aka: AC6's combat rewards being agressive so trying ot outlast Balteus in a long range battle doesnt work(you gotta keep that pulse shield down while atthe same time being at close range lets you move around it quickly giving you a neasier time arouns the missile salvos and out of sight for the rocket.). @@idefkicabti4141

Fromsoft has really outdone themselves in terms of story telling with this one As far as story goes this is their masterpiece Dont get me wrong the gameplay is absolutely badass as well
Lowkey I kind of agree. I love the lore and worldbuilding in their Souls games, but the actual telling of a story in AC6 is *miles* above even the likes of Elden Ring and Bloodborne. They didn't go out of their way to be deliberately obtuse and make *everything* about the environmental storytelling. Oh sure it was there, still, but not having to pick apart every little detail to an absurd degree just to understand the plot is nice.
funny story. one guy told me that's the hardest boss for the game at the time he shows up. I almost got the dude in my literal 1st attempt, with Balteus remaining 1 pixel away from passing. ..and then after you can kinda get what happened considering it happened before the nerf. Took me 3 days of like 12 hours gameplay.

It's like, you spend the whole first act being treated like a dog, and then just as you face your most brutal challenge yet, you finally meet someone who believes in you. She knows it's hard, she knows it's painful, and she knows you can do it. Focus, Raven, and you *will* win.
We had PTSD from Daredevil overlaid with missile warnings from Arsenal Bird. Now we need this overlaid with attack warnings from Balteus.
It’s awesome there is a mini renaissance of my two favorite franchises. Both got composers who you can’t help but feel like they put their all in it
Hang on. You mentioned the Arsenal bird? When I first heard this track I thought it sounded very Ace Combat. Did the original composer work on the soundtrack for this too?
@@IpsensFury No, I don't think so. They are 2 different composer.
perhaps you think it's similar due to both Daredevil and Contact With You have mechanical theming.
This is the stuff Armored Core is made of. Congrats on your epic victory. May you have many more 🥂
Balteus is the first meaningful boss fight in any game, in years. They absolutely killed it with this game.
great story telling haha, but might need more space !
this track goes so fucking hard
POV:
You just want a call sign of your own.
Makes me think 621's brain damage has been mended in some way, especially since after Walter says that we spoke about Ayre
You know?
I had this exact same feeling especially when this part starts 1:15 and 2:48it’s like you said overcoming the boss is a milestone for us and the character
@@Heedfulconch3 Yeah, I think the Contact began to heal his fried brain by energizing it with Coral energy, and inducing not just healing and recovery, but access to new and profound abilities.
The other people that got hit by Coral, like Carla, didn't really age afterwards. And Dolmayan was one tough SoB even with an outdated AC.
What I wouldn't give to fight like this forever
this theme is exactly what being forced to fight for my life in a mech against an experimental superweapon after getting a near fatal dose of spice should sound like
To me this is not Balteus's theme its your theme when you form the symbiosis with Ayre and reach the turning point of simply being another hound. This is why its called "Contact with you"
Its when your character truly became the Raven...
@@mirandavladivostok6651 I thought the implication was clear when Ayre mentions Contact when you first meet her, and when she brings up Contact numerous times throughout the game.
Plays first during Balteus, but the theme is more geared towards coming in Contact With (You) Ayre for the first time before this fight. Her voice lines in the fight guiding you are necessary for her as she needs you to survive.
Evasive manouver... How do i dodge these rockets in the first place? I did assault boost dodging to sides due to normal dodges not working for me. At least i minimized the damage.
@@azmunt6855in order to dodge you charge and blast balteus head on if you notice Baldurs doesn’t fire below a massive indicator on how to dodge it.
@@azmunt6855missiles have limited maneuvers before expiring so putting yourself in the best place to avoid damage requires recognizing the direction and speed of projectiles. Instinct will do the rest
@@azmunt6855Face him head on LIKE A KNIGHT. You're going to get hit, best you can do is mess him up in return. Assault boost through his missile barrage and you'll take less damage and throw off the tracking then... TICKLE HIM.
@@kirbyis4ever I got through him after several tries and my strategy devolved from trying to keep distance to quite literaly unga bunga via assault boost at first phase. Keep distance from ground due to flame blade in phase two and keep on unga bunga. It was not a knightly fight, it was a god damn monkey sticking to it's ass, till it was scrap.
Respect to all those who beat this guy pre-patch
Kind of a shame they don't leave in Pre-Patch Balteus for NG++, as the mission is changed there anyways...
The balteus really taught me to use brutal build in every filter boss except Iblis. And now i'm on NG+ and i'm damn proud that i'm one of those players who defeated Balteus Pre-nerf.
@@Yuu_TakasakiNow he almost feels too easy. I miss getting my ass obliterated by a massive barrage instantly killing me or crippling me if I fail.
@@kirbyis4ever i was super impatient that time and rely on my Linear Rifle then i saw pulse gun. I didn't get filtered due i was spoiler already how to defeat balteus. I really loved the Old Balteus due you really feel damn proud defeating it with such beginner weapons.
I fought him with the starter weapons. I felt the second part of this song towards the end as the struggle was intense.
I barely even noticed the music at first, but there was a single moment where I popped the shield and started laying into Balteus with everything I had and I noticed the music and how triumphant and mystical it felt regardless of how the fight was going, Balteus is PEAK "keep fighting, you've almost got it!"
The first time I saw those flamethrowers come out while the music was going full blast was PEAK, the decision to have Balteus be dead silent was such an amazing choice, not taunts, no bullshit, just you and Ayre against this absolute BEAST
Crazy entrance, one to fear...
Man... GOTY's Music score awards was a joke, this score had more fire in it tbh
Me: Man this game is fun, kind of difficult but not too bad
Balteus: *Maniacally laughing in the corner*
Getting my ass beaten by an autonomous robot in a flying baby carriage with this banger playing.
I love AC6s bossfights. The adrenaline rush during it and the goosbumps afterwards is something no other game can replicate.
meep
Kota Hoshino’s still got those bangers.
I've just realized that those vapor sounds like, can easily be 621and their AC, in fact they have a pattern that can be easily be traced to a cicle with you firing, then dodging and repeating the process
With the the elettronic being Ayre, everything clicking with the drop at 2:48
You have achieved Contact, you and Ayre are now unstoppable
I use this song in my workouts. After each loop i take short rest and after 16 mins i take 5 min rest. Repeat it 3 times and you have yourself a nice workout.
Try jump ropes for more fun.
Work hard, rest hard 👍
I just started doing this 2 days ago. Sessions were great
Unironically use this during sets before seeing this comment. It just gets you pumped like tekken music.
good Motivation 💪
Hey!! Same here! It’s so great for workouts.
Play hard. You forgot that one
“You need to focus on winning this.” Proceeds to die 30 times before finally winning with a ghetto Shotgun and laser sword, and pistol and 40 ac to spare. Man it felt good.
I've taken your comms link offline for now, that massive dose of coral nearly killed you
The theme of the great filter
Good job Balteus, now eat my laser lance
Fromsoft knows where all the talent is, they never miss with the OST. This is a masterpiece
I think I haven't had this much fun on a boss since Genichiro
I just had the same feeling when the game just *clicks* with my brain and my keyboard&mouse becomes an extension of my body
It's just too fucking good man
I’m sorry Raven
A theme that surves the purpose of bringing fear upon you as you face a formitable foe and then to empower you to push your limits and break them to new heights. 😱 -> 💪😤
The satisfaction of defeating Balteus after that felt like a life time achievement. Then to realize that was just the beginning.
Why do i feel the sudden urge to boost dash out of the way.......and why is there an emergency beep rining in my head?
Take evasive actions Raven.
I remember fighting Balteus for the first time and the music made me wanna keep going no matter what, and tbh I’m glad I didn’t rage quit. Awesome game and glad it won goty for best action game.
PROTEC OUR RED DOT WAIFU AT ALL COSTS
Done. Recently got the true ending
working on it! currently on the ice worm, first playthrough
you never see her, yet we all waifu her
This track probably one of my reasons to keep tryharding even though Balteus rekt me like 50 times
Never got tired of it
"The waves are intensifying, raven, get clear"
*Fucking explodes*
"I'm sorry, raven..."
That moment you feel when you're out of ammo and they at low health, so you throw metal hands till they explode
And here we got people sayin this game doesn’t have a good OST.
God this song went so much harder than it needed to.
That ....was the point boi
"I'm sorry Raven, but i can't spell Raven without Rave, let me share you the best piece of my playlist"
-Ayre
According to the Official artbook Balteus, at least the first encounter, is made by RaD. Knowing how Carla fights in her AC, this isn't surprising at all.
FromSoft are different dogs
Not only action goty, but this should be soundtrack goty too. Amazing, even more when udnerstanding this isn't for Balteus particiluary
More really need to acknowledge this game's soundtrack, it probably one of the best of this year
Balteus filtered me im not gonna lie lmao. I aint EVER beating this mf i just aint built like that.
just keep trying and your skill will evolve to the point that he becomes easy
Don't go rattling on your controls, keep a slow pace and you'll get really used to it like Quick boosting and assault boosting at the right timing of your spacing, especially lock-on and melee control
to ad ot this if the previous bosses didnt convey the message, BALTEUS will:
you need to be the agressor ot minimize pressure on yourself aka: AC6's combat rewards being agressive so trying ot outlast Balteus in a long range battle doesnt work(you gotta keep that pulse shield down while atthe same time being at close range lets you move around it quickly giving you a neasier time arouns the missile salvos and out of sight for the rocket.). @@idefkicabti4141
use da yay
beating balteus was a feat and a half, I beat him pre patch then on NG+ he was a pushover I had no idea there even was a patch I just thought I had gotten better (I did but there definitely was less missiles)
Starts raining song starts playing.
People who haven't played: dayum this fire!
People who have played: fu-fu-fu-fu-fu-r-r-r-ruunnn!!
You are now entering the Osea-Erusean Space Elevator...
“Main System: Activating Combat Mode.”
Blasting a couple hits of Nitrous and letting this song play is something else entirely.
The closest I'll ever come to making Contact with Ayre.
Can't wait to hear this song in a decade and be snapped right back to my first fights with Balteus. I just love this damn track.
Man is a self-made Invincible Rummy
This is like if Hans Zimmer made music for mech games
This shit had my hands shaking when it was over. One of the best boss fights in gaming.
Ayre: “I’ve identified an approaching enemy. I’ll synchronize with your brain waves and maintain contact to support you”
Contact with you
Track 13
I'm so much goddamn fun in my first clash with Balteus right now.
I'm not sure if this will hold in future plays, but I'll savout it while I can. The speed, the rush, the feeling of learning to FLY.
I love everything about the atmosphere. Nerfs be damned.
Sure wish Ayre has a more game impact though. Would be cool if you had an ability tied to her.
All I gotta say is, KEEP PLAYING into NG+ and NG++!!! I been loving the shit out of this game ever since I picked it up weeks ago bro!👍🏼
Wait, where’d all the exploding mech sounds go?
😅 A version with those would be nice
"Main System: Reactivating Combat Mode."

I’m in chapter 3 and this is easily the best theme so far, my favorite boss is the spider though
This is the part when I realized the real game just started.
Fromsoft has really outdone themselves in terms of story telling with this one
As far as story goes this is their masterpiece
Dont get me wrong the gameplay is absolutely badass as well
Lowkey I kind of agree.
This track gives me shivers. Armored Core is back in glorious form.
this song is out of this world, frickin awesome
The game just sort of clicked for me the first time I dodged through his entire first volley.
1:14 imagine this part playing while you fight Ayre but its now a solemn violin composition :(
Annndddddd absolutely amazing!!! Tron+ MOA+ AC3SL vibes
funny story. one guy told me that's the hardest boss for the game at the time he shows up.
I almost got the dude in my literal 1st attempt, with Balteus remaining 1 pixel away from passing.
..and then after you can kinda get what happened considering it happened before the nerf. Took me 3 days of like 12 hours gameplay.
after I beat balteus, rest of the boss except ibis c240, are easy peasy. I don't need to intentionally evade the missiles anymore. It come as easy as breathing lol. Balteus is good boss to practice missiles dodge.
And Cinder Carla was just a joke ?
@@artificialsoul4248 So.Many.Missiles

The worst part of the nerf is how insufferable every comment talking about it is. Absolutely kills any sort of comment section about the boss.
The first time we fight this guy, we're handicapped by the barren shop selection.
Speak for yourself, wrecked its shit with Ransetsu-RFs.
It forced us to learn how to play instead of crutching on OP weapons (cough cough needle launchers)
@@haihuynh8772 and I eventually reached the point where I could consistently take him down while wielding twin Coqs and twin Haldemans, but it doesn't explain why previous ACs had a wider selection of purchaseable parts at this point in the campaign.
I beat this mission 3 weeks ago, the game was a birthday gift from one of my best friends.
Ma favorite boss in the game. He truly puts you in your place, then rewards you with so much when you figure him out. AND THE OST!
learning that moving my camera stick at all broke the hardlock and killing that habit of touching that stick while in hardlock at all was a major factor in making this fight easier.
this dude was beating me to death multiple times and ur telling me he was STRONGER?!
