I am from Bangladesh.Here grinding stone is not available as far i searched.Then I have made a alternative experiment. I have used the back rough surface of a piece of floor/wall tiles for grinding.And it worked. Hope that, peaple who doesnt have stone,this idea will help them to make sandlewood paste easily.

Ma'am it's a tip for u :- whenever u r making chandan paste always add a piece of karpuram ( camphor ) to it and then grind .....☺️☺️ Whenever u will apply it on ur forehead u will feel the coolness of the camphor and sandal .... Plz plz Do try it ma'am ... 🙏🙏☺️☺️ The paste would be bit whitish due to addition of camphor ....

If u want to have divine smell in pooja room, a powder can be prepared n used for photos n vigrahas with below ingredients. Trust me u ll get temple feel in ur pooja room: 1. Cardamoms 2. Cloves 3. Saunf 4. Green camphor 5. Javvadhu 6. Turmeric powder 7. Sandal tablets or powder Each ingredient can be taken about 10gms . The first four ingredients should be grinded corsely in mixie n then add rest of the items to make it a smooth powder. This can be stored in an airtight bottle ( preferably steel or glass so that it ll not lose it’s smell) . This powder ll retain its smell for especially those who have separate pooja room ..
Maam, sorry, I forgot to reply to your query regarding keeping hallow vigrahas at pooja room. Ideally, it is said that we should keep only solid vigrahas for performing pooja. But 99% of the time, brass vigrahas will be hallow. We get solid vigrahas only in silver and panchaloha and not everyone can afford it. So in many people's house, we can also see hallow vigrahas being worshipped. In my pooja room, only durga, venkateshwara, raghavendra swami and silver small vigrahas are solid. I do abhishekam only to these vigrahas. The rest of the vigrahas are hallow.
