I love love love love the scene with the uncle. Because it confirms that he was very similar to his brother and Lena, since he fought in the begining of the war, before the 86 were put on camps and turned into war weapons (notice his boots being in a poor state) He agreed it was wrong but the reality crushed him and made him a nihilist. He hates the Republic and hates himself. But by listening to Lena, he may have realized he could have done something, even if it is impossible and would crush him (and he still expects that Lena will end being crushed by the harsh reality ).... but then, he decides to even so (heh) protect her (and he was probrably always protect her before against the military and governement for her actions). Beautiful and subtle character writing.
I think he's always been protecting her. Jerome despises his own people more than anything, but he's coldly practical: If the 86 aren't there, everyone's dead. He's been making himself more of a monster in an effort to keep Lena further from it. Because the more cruel he is, the less shame Lena would be burdened with.
Very similar but also very different. Vaclav suffered from the same thing Lena did at the start of her career. They were against discrimination while subconsciously they felt the difference between the 86 and themselves. Vaclav took his daughter to the battlefield because *thought only 86s die there* and Lena asked about the name of a cat before anyone else. From chapters that give insight at what happened at the start of the war, Jerome is shown realizing this part of Vaclav when it becomes clear that the colorata will fully replace the Republic's soldiers. If Jerome had survived he would be at the same time crushed by the revelation that he COULD have made a difference and find a new role in teh Federacy like Lena and others did, not to make things right but to keep them from becoming worse again.
"You get what you deserve" . I always feel like it is a very cryptic sentence and has more senses. Theoretically, the Republic gets punishment, the Processors get "final" freedom and the Legion gets damaged by the explosives.
This episodes helps show their strengths Anju is area of effect, Kurena the sniper, Theo the flanker, Raiden the all rounder support, and Shin the close combat.
I don’t know why you call them dipshit because they didn’t listened to shin so you think whole military should listen to teenager’s opinion that has totally no evidence? shin didn’t even said about his power
Shin is at the point where Death is always nearby (not because of him being the Headless Reaper or Undertaker) and he was always the one to live. "Why was I the only one to live, I should have died too along with them? Will I be remembered after I die? Will someone remember me after I die? Should I even Live?" (Not accurate) These are some of what Shin is thinking because when he dies will he be remembered or someone remember him? Not being remembered after you die is a lot worse than dying alone. That is why Shin takes a lot more risks in battle and when he is hearing the "The Dead," he just forgets and goes into berserker mode but with a really bad mindset. Remember what Federica said to Shin, "I knew it, you're just like Kiri." In time you will get to understand why she said that!
It's five kids, who spent half their childhood forced to fight. In substandard gear, outnumbered, with no support, and the only expectation was for them to die. After years of that? They just couldn't kill these five off. They're probably the best warriors alive. So... there's the conflict. How could you send them back? At the same time, how can you not? Of course they deserve so much better, but not sending them means countless more will die. Sparing them will doom so many more.
