    Just gotta say, if this doesn’t put into clear perspective how gifted and unique Jeff was I don’t know what will. Even the genius of Thile can barely do this song justice...damn.

    Grace is a project in itself. Vocally, a tour de force needed everytime. Hats off to any professional that even attempts it. Well done.

    Chris brought his own eccentricity and style to the vocals and that's what makes it a great tribute... he wasn't trying to be Jeff...

    That whole album was a revelation. Amazing work on record and live.

    It's really hard to do justice to Jeff's songs. He was out of this world for sure.

    I really wish he picked “Last Goodbye.” However, you can’t go wrong with Buckley... especially in the hands of the talented crew from “Live from Here.”

    I was really hoping they would play "Grace." But I was also unsure if Chris (or anyone else, for that matter) could pull off the vocals. I shouldn't have worried! This performance was really impressive and a great tribute to a great songwriter.

      they had to leave off that last verse ;)

    • @KeelyBurnMusic
      @KeelyBurnMusic 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@davidlawrence6464 I think that was due to time constraints more than anything. I don't think the bridge ("I feel them drown my name...") is any harder to sing than the rest of the song. Then again I consider "Grace" to be one of the most difficult songs for anyone to sing due to the wide range of notes.

    • @davidlawrence6464
      @davidlawrence6464 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KeelyBurnMusic I feel that... Such a beautifully written song. And I'm sorry I meant the outro when he really picks it up :)

    • @Hitmonstahp
      @Hitmonstahp 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@KeelyBurnMusic I disagree. I think that's the hardest part, because he's singing in such a high register in mixed voice. I feel like the verses are pretty standard in range, with the exception of the falsetto bits - but that's all head voice. Much easier than the latter part, in my opinion.
      But having said that, we all learn how to sing differently and some things come naturally to certain people.
      Whatever the case, Jeff had an amazing range and incredible control over his voice - I think Grace is the perfect testament to that. :)

    • @KeelyBurnMusic
      @KeelyBurnMusic 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Hitmonstahp I guess I was looking at it that way because I always considered the most difficult part of the song to be the high note after the last chorus, which Chris sang, so I thought the bridge can't be any harder to sing than that. But I understand what you mean about singing that part in mixed voice! Chris only hit that note using falsetto, which wouldn't work for the bridge, I think. I personally find the verses and chorus to be the most difficult parts to sing, being a female vocalist with a soprano range. In this performance, when Aoife jumped the octave to sing the "fire"' part, that's how I have to sing it too. Impossible otherwise! And yes, I think "Grace" is the perfect song to showcase just how incredible Jeff Buckley was as a singer. Watching live performances in particular blow me away.

    Great tribute. Music was tight. Vocals didn't have the same control and raw emotion as JB. Not an easy song to pull off, perhaps that's why we don't hear many covers of this song.

    I don't know; I think there are songs people should avoid if they don't have the chops, or, even if they do. Let's start with one's essence, then, one's sensibilities.., because if one posses either, then, that one can pursue it. Songs composed and or sung by Stevie Wonder, Jeff Buckley, Sly Stone, Nina Simone, EW&F should be avoided if you can't do it justice. This attempt in this video is one of those songs; don't try this at home or in public if you are not going to thoroughly rock it.
