For those who didn't get what happened: At 10:03 Nihal Points out that Erdos has made an illegal move since his King was under check. Erdos initially thinks that in illegal move means the game is lost, but realizes that it only means Nihal gets an extra minute and that he can continue playing. However, Nihal reminds him that Qd4 is a legal move to block the check, and Erdos must play it in order to keep the game going due to the touch to move rule. Erdos realizes that, smiles and resigns the game since there's no way for him to beat Nihal queen down, especially when Nihal has an added minute to his clock. Nihal says sorry as well, but Erdos smiles and shrugs it off saying it's not his fault. All said and done, that was a really exciting and tense finish. Edit: Nihal later also says the same thing happened with him at Tata Steel Blitz, where he lost a match to Parham Maghsoodloo due to an illegal move, and was forced to sacrifice his Bishop if he wanted to continue. He resigned that match, and it went on to become a critical moment since Parham managed to snatch third place away for him. In a twist of fate though, in this tournament, Nihal did manage to finish third!
Why Qd4 only legal move? Why cant Kg8 for black.. Is it because he touched the piece or there is no way he can stop block the check? Just a lay man question..i am new to chess!... Please help
@@karanamtarun4039 It's because of the touch to move rule as far as I can see. Kg8 is a legal move yes, but since the queen was touched, and there still is a legal move with the queen (even though that is just a plain blunder), it must be played. Only if there were no legal moves with the piece that GM Erdos had touched, could he move another.
My friend, he apologized for pointing out that he has to play Qg4 to continue the game (because of touch and move rule) and the opponent will lose the queen then ( of course Nihal is a very humble guy and he shouldn't have apologized either but I'm just pointing out it's not because of illegal move for which he apologized)

@@jam-ss2jc first of all bro I'm not a mallu, and secondly he didn't apologize for pointing qg4 he just felt bad that his opponent had to lose the game in a drawn position because of illegal move
This is what happened to nihal very recently. He touched a piece and made illegal move and ended up losing that piece as the only legal move with the piece he touched loses it.
To be honest I think nihal now needs more physical attention and should grow strengthwise physically. Watching nepo vs magnus , magnus felt to me like a beast and nepo just struggled after a long game. Btw nihal is a champ
@Octave Ok you have officially lost your mind mate. How many other Chess champions can you name that trained physically like Magnus? Are you saying a 40 year old Vishy was more fit than Nepo? Stop making arguments just for the sake of making them.
As explained by comment above (and as Nihal himself says in the video), Erdos touching queen means he has to move that piece, and the only legal move with that queen is to the central square to block the check, then Nihal captures the queen for free. So Erdos resigned instead of playing on (playing on with a one minute penalty I think was his other choice as the result for making an initial illegal move with the queen if Erdos wanted to play on, which he did not).
@@avijit3001 it's not required to call check. It's only a problem in lower level, even in moderate level games players are able notice a check on their own so calling a check each time would only disturbe the other players. Imagine if a big tournament is happening with about 100 games at the same time. Every second someone would be saying check if it is made a rule which would be very distracting.

why nihal said sorry ??

Cute hehehe looks evil.. Like am gonna beat yaa ahahahahaha
Why dont the arbiter set the clock and point out it's a foul from black but end the match with the win for white?
Because erdos resigned
4:52 - 4:54 tho
Revenge hahaha. I also swear the guy touched his king during the match but didn't move it maybe I'm wrong.
you have to play qdfour and blunder the queen hilarious ending
This was a check right? He moved another piece rather than dealing with check, hence illegal move?
Correct. And since he had touched the queen he had to move it, since it was legally possible to block the check with his queen. Hence the resignation.

But the basic rule should be, when you give a check, you call "Check".
One should note it even if the opponent didn't call it. Imagine how funny it would be if everyone start calling check in a tournament!!!

Thats for noobs. Not for Super GMs. If they can't even spot a check on the board they shouldn't be playing on this level of competition.
