Your work and labour is appropriate, appreciatable. But on the other side I do not like much papercret pots because these looks like old times fashion . But dont take it otherwise
Beautiful work, and well explained. I have been holding on to some large plastic pretzel containers from Costco, knowing someday --and today was the day --I would find a use for them. The only thing I would have done differently than you is that I would have weighted the tall vases. Once someone puts water and flowers in the tops, I'm afraid they would be top-heavy. When putting several vessels together, it would be easy to add rocks and lots of permanent glue on the inside of the bottom piece and let them dry completely before adding more plastic vessels to the top. I would also paint the outside of the bottom of the top piece whatever color the outside is going to be, so no one could see what might be messy rocks inside the bottom. We have one concrete slab in my backyard that is falling apart & needs to be replaced. Meanwhile, I am a night owl & often go out with a flashlight in the middle of the night hunting for rocks there to add weight. (I often imbed them in a box inside the bottoms of my pieces where they cannot be seen.) One other option if unable to make vessels waterproof: I find separate plastic or glass containers that can be placed inside my vessels when water is needed. If I can't find appropriately-sized food jars I've emptied, DollarTree has some thin & fairly tall, maybe 10-11" water bottles, which can be made a little taller by gluing the lids to the bottoms with a few rocks glued inside the lids. I measure the narrowest width of my item and the height and take a tape measure with me because Dollartree has lots of different glass & plastic items that may be useful. Otherwise, my non-waterproof items are suitable for dried or artificial flowers or foliage, & some (if transparent or translucent in some areas) for flameless candles or fairy lights.
⚱I looked for quite a while for a vase emoji. Then I found this, which is apparently a funeral urn. I'm going with it. OK, favorite vase - the large rustic whiteish vase with all the marks made from brush handles. Amazing. I just found your channel, even though I search for paper mache ALL THE TIME. Youube chooses to spread these things out I guess. I have been a paper mache artist for many, many, many years. I am really enjoying your channel. I rarely use paper mache pulp. Because I'm lazy and because I live in a really small place and it just has to sit on the floor in the kitchen in its bucket and I trip over it and the dogs knock it over and it's a thing. I make mostly characters with my paper mache and I have found that if I want very fine details I use cotton. Unrolled cotton balls. I switch to a cooked cornstarch glue for the cotton (because watered down PVA and cotton do not play nice). And I make some art dolls with clay embellishments, and I use a store bought air dry clay. Your work is quite wonderful. I subscribed. Thanks for posting.
Luv them all but my favorite is the off white vase with the cut ins. Well done and thank you so much for the tutorials. You’ve inspired me to create. 😊
⚱Loved it Renée, great work on the video! My absolute favourite is the one with all the dot patterns, but they all look so cool. I can definitely see the historic inspiration.
Loved them all. My most favorite is the one with the vertical lines pressed in with the paint brush handle! Will try as soon as I partially recuperate from surgery. Can't wait.
⚱️ I really appreciate all the work that went into the making of this video as well as the vases. I'm so inspired to make some large vases (I've already made several smaller pieces inspired by your previous videos). It's tough, but if I had to choose a favorite it would be the white one with the indentations. Love it! 👏🏼
Umm late to the party…however I wanted to say I love your tutorial and your style. I have yet to attempt any projects after only recently discovering paper mache. But I am learning loads from watching. Thank U.
🪣Learn something every time! I've tried a bit of paper pulp on a few masks but have not been happy with it. But now I see how much you smooth with glue after.. that's the step I was missing. Excited to see if I can make it work!
Thank you for this. I especially like the rustic ambiance of your finished pieces, but I imagine one could sand/smooth the outsides for a more polished look, if desired. I recently saw commercial vases that I liked & was trying to figure out how to make something similar. This video gave me an idea of how to do it. The vases were white with oval shapes that looked like they were milky translucent plastic or glass which I thought would be great for luminarias with flameless candles or fairy lights. I think I'd be able to use pulp, leaving round or oval shapes blank with the plastic jars showing through. (Or maybe when they are still wet, I could cut pieces out. Have to experiment to see what will work.) Then use some ModPodge with white mica powder to paint the plastic showing through the open circles or ovals.
Beautiful work and great tutorial ❤ I love them all but since it would be a challenge to put them all in the house white would be my first pick ❤ The thing that was really impressive is the simplicity you explain things in such a natural way without making it look like a rocket science - that is beyond helpful and motivating. Thank you 😊
Thank you sharing Renee, your vessels are beautiful. I do have a question, though. how do you seal it and especially the lip, where the papier-mâché meets the plastic container, so that when water is added and spilled out, it doesn't seep into the papier-mâché (where the plastic container meet and the papier-mâché pulp).
The mod podge line has a few sealants that provide a water-resistant surface. I have two of them linked in my Amazon storefront (but there are more options in that product line): amzn.to/3YgqO0q I have pieces with plastic lip that I made for myself years ago that are holding up nicely!
Just found you and am so impressed with these vases! Definitely am going to try this technique after I watch the basics videos! Thank you so much for creating this channel.
🏺🏺🏺🏺🏺I learnt so much from this video! All vases came out amazing. I love all of them and it is so easy to watch and learn. I made a cup of coffee for me before watching and I found it untouched after. I was so engaged that I forgot my coffee. Thank you Renee for sharing.

Hmmm...pulp. very interesting & im very interested. This is actually (the pulp) something i came up with jus as well. Only difference is i didn't think it was going to work. Yours slightly different. Awesome.
Vase emoji not available.. Where can we get shredded paper. This is my first video. I wish I had watched before stacking packing paper and gluing for hours on a mirror frame yesterday because that's just going to fall off when I add heavy paper mache. I think I'm going to rip it off and start this technique. I've never seen it before so I'm going to look at how to make it and smooth it. How are you water proofing once finished. What do you use to smooth. Ty. I love the one with patterns the most and love the look of packing paper without paint. Ty ❤
My word! It looks like I just joined your fan club! I, too, really appreciate you sharing your tips with us. I just finished your video on how to make Paper Mache pulp - I didn't comment, but thank you for that one, too. Very informative. I've been using strips but want to try the pulp and you make it look very approachable. PS: It's very difficult to choose a favorite vase, but I think mine would be Vase #1. I loved it unfinished, but you made it beautiful in the green, too.
The mess is the best. Entasis was to shape or lean something so “a column” for instance does not look as though it’s going to fall on you. You can find this in the Greek temples on the acropolis. The columns are tipped to the side and back. The steps are bulged up in the center. I like the one that you embellished with the hatch marks. They are all great though.
You are the first person since my art history prof to know what entasis is/was 😆 He had me obsessed with columns- Doric, Ionic, Corinthian... please don't activate the nerd in me, lol! Thank you! 🤓

🏺hey I was thinking for the spout, a cut in the main vase body could made and another piece of plastic could be bent or shaped (using a heat gun) and attached with hot glue making the spout waterproof and usable. What do you think? Loved this video, you’re awesome!
i notice you use a lot of techniques that ceramicists use and i really like that, but do you know if you can use the patting or wet paintbrush methods of smoothing with the same effectiveness in paper mache as clay?
I do! I'm not really familiar with those techniques, but a quick search tells me they look like they could work on paper pulp/clay, as long as it's still relatively damp. 👍🏼 I kinda think I do some patting to smooth my pieces, but never put a name to it.
hello I have just subscribed to your channel thanks for all that you share, it takes a lot of effort. I love the shape of vase no. 4 the tall black one and I was wondering if it needed like some kind of weight in the bottom? I am embarking on a paper mache journey woo hoo!
Thank you for subbing! The tall black vase was large and heavy wnough not to need weight added! But if you wanted to add weight, something like river stones would work.
Omg beautiful work , im an artist ive been into do paper crafts ive been obsessed with paper beads lately , i would love to try a vase ....if i wanted to use a paper machee vase for a plant i would have to pre drill the holes befor layering ? Or after ? 🤔
Thank you! When I've made planters for plants in soil, I made the holes in the plastic, then added the paper pulp and reinforced the holes. For these vases, no holes because they're just meant to hold water and flowers. Hope that helps!
They are! Seal them with a product like Mod Pod Dishwasher Safe or any product that says "water resistant finish". There are more linked in my Amazon list. They really work!
Basically the same! In my studio, paper clay is pulp's finer, smoother sister. Made the same way, but more kneading and blending makes a compound that can hold smaller, finer details. Some creators use toilet paper to make it, but I prefer recycling!
Question...the balloon vase VIDEOS on here...im trying to make one. Well...i failed 6times. Don't no wat im doing wrong. Did exactly wat the VIDEOS said do. If u could look up on here How to make a vase with a balloon. Not the video's that use paper mache. But the video that fill plaster or cement inside the balloon. Those the two ways to make it. Back to my question...do u think i can use this paper pulp to make the balloon vase after paper macheing it?
I'm asking cuz like I said trying the pouring plaster inside the balloon method isn't working for me. It keeps cracking inside the balloon. So....I'm going to try the paper mache method & was wondering if I can use the paper pulp. If it would work or not. Would love if u could do a video on it.
I'm familiar with that technique and have worked with both plaster and cement. I can save you time: it would collapse using paper mache as well. Both cement and plaster have a mystical way of heating up while they cure. Both the heat and the weight of either would make a rubber balloon or paper prone to collapsing. I personally wouldn't waste the time and materials. BUT it might be a good idea to pose the same question to the creators who have successfully made a vase using that technique.🙏🏽
@@createdbyrenee I did. No answer. But in the video it worked. Every video that make it & it work. But just trying to see wat to do that will work. Thanks anyway 👍
You could try pressing stamping letters into the surface as the pulp begins to dry. It's hard to explain, but there's an exact time in the drying process that's best for applying details. Too early and they don't hold in the pulp. Too late and the surface is too stiff. Two other options are rub on decal-style letters or full verse decals you could probably find online. And painting or writing the verse on with paint, paint pens, or ink. I recommend sealing, regardless of which route you take. Explore the mod podge product line for that.
Ooo- I'm not a guru on that, especially bc it's depends on a number of factors that vary from one artist to the next. I recommend searching pricing formulas for handmade items on Google.
Your work and labour is appropriate, appreciatable. But on the other side I do not like much papercret pots because these looks like old times fashion . But dont take it otherwise
Thank you! I love this, because I can (and you can!) use this concept to make pots that are modern or minimalist. I might do a video on that!

Are these all waterproof? I’m working on a water pale but worry it’ll come apart if it gets wet/used
They are! Seal them with a product like Mod Pod Dishwasher Safe or any product that says "water resistant finish". There are more linked in my Amazon list. They really work!
👏👏👏Thanks...
You're welcome!
Is " pulp" different than paper clay?
VASE
do you know if you can use receipts for your paper pulp? i love your art too, by the by (-^□^-)
I have! Hand shredded or run through a paper shredder 🤍🩶🩷
How could I add words to the vase? Like a Bible verse?
You could try pressing stamping letters into the surface as the pulp begins to dry. It's hard to explain, but there's an exact time in the drying process that's best for applying details. Too early and they don't hold in the pulp. Too late and the surface is too stiff. Two other options are rub on decal-style letters or full verse decals you could probably find online. And painting or writing the verse on with paint, paint pens, or ink. I recommend sealing, regardless of which route you take. Explore the mod podge product line for that.
You dint show how to make pulp!!!

🏺How do you know or how do you price these? I love them! I do paper mache but they are characters. Im confused on how to put a price
Ooo- I'm not a guru on that, especially bc it's depends on a number of factors that vary from one artist to the next. I recommend searching pricing formulas for handmade items on Google.
