In my first week playing Foxhole as a Warden, I only did logi moving supplies to the front, once I completed my delivery I was returning to my truck a guy in a tank with the most Texan accent approached me and yelled at me to get in the gunner seat. I replied that I didn't know how to use the tank and he replied "you will learn right now son get in the fking tank" I got in because I thought he was some superior xd I felt like the kid from Fury

Larping is one factor of many to remain a high motivation and to have fun. My first Larp encounter in this game was when a Collie Medic from Red Cross healed a Warden Comrade. Best pro-tip -- do a search in your Windows menu for MOUSE - open it, click ADVANCED SETTINGS. Turn on MOUSE CLICK LOCK. Set it to 'long' -- then in game, when you hold your LMB down for 5 seconds or more, it will stay down until you click again. So building, hammering, digging, repairing, scrooping, swinging a sledgehammer, using a harvestor -- ALL OF THIS is impacted by Click Lock. You're welcome. o7

As someone who's been roleplaying as a reporter since 2018, I can easily say, with only one or two minor exceptions, every person I've interviewed has been all-in on the schtick. They get it almost immediately, and are more than willing to completely recount their experience or bring me along their objective. The approachability of the common player on the battlefield is why I consider Foxhole one of the best MMO experiences out there.
4:50 This was my number one concern when starting the PressCorps, but as long people stick to Robert's points on common decency, they're likely going to get a positive response eventually. The point about ensuring the mic volume is at a good level is really important. I've found most people actually like players who play music, and the people who play really, really loud music as a meme, actually think they're playing it at a decent level. Three separate times, I've told people "hey your music is actually too loud to the point where we can't understand what you're playing," and they corrected it.

One time around war 98 or so we sent a white whale on a tap op to draw off colonial QRF and buy time for the other guys to blow a bridge or something. We got the tap, they destroyed the white whale eventually and it was a fight to the end with whatever men and supplies we had left. I was a medic and was larping accidentally Heroic rescues, fatalistic determination, encouragement to keep fighting and hold out as long as possible. I finally went down as the only medic with plasma left, so another medic couldn’t revive me. “It’s ok, don’t worry about me I’ll be fine, just grab my supplies, hold out as long as possible, the men need you.” Completely straight faced as tactical advice.

Reminds me of when I was doing logi to a frontline base. 2 friendlies were blocking the bridge. They stopped me, told me to show papers, if my favorite color was green or blue etc. For me it was a fun experience, but I can imagine how this could frustrate some more serious players. In that scenario it would probably be +2 roadkill. [Red Cross] ✚Vedagi✚ here....
The Foxhole Red Cross is not exactly a larp group, since we are an actual PR project of the ICRC. But calling us "role-play" isn't all wrong either. I want to share a few stories that happened just thanks to me wearing that tag.
The first story is in the damn hell called Scurvyshire: Every war there is a massacre, in one war, i was running somewhere at night, having no idea where the damn front was again! (haha). And then I ran into a Colie (since I was Warden), and he seemed alone in the destroyed T2 bunker piece, so I hopped there with him, gave him a quick heal, and then we started to talk and talk until a Spatha showed up. Instead of going on, they stopped, and for 5 minutes they (in a fun way) "argued" over whether the Spatha would shoot me or not. The Colie stood between me and the Spatha with just his trusted Argenti raised against his own faction tank, while the tank was aiming at him with its barrel. In the end, the tank shot and killed him, and I ran away to safety. To this day, I still remember that guy - I never saw him again... o7
Then I have a lot of minor ones... For example, making a truce in bridge fights.
I remember one quick story: I was in Allod's Bight, and the battle was raging on for the Relic. I rushed into no man's land and met some Colie there - I don’t remember if I revived him or what, but we talked. Then another Warden came, then another Colie… again and again, until there was a bunch of us just chilling there, talking, and having fun. After 15 minutes or so, we decided to go back to our own lines.
Another one I remember, and someone could actually mention in the comments here from what I read: it was a good few wars ago in Callahans Passage. We were pushing into the Town when I got left behind. Before I was able to reach our lines, the other faction was everywhere, and since I realized they had next to no medics, so i stayed. A guard formed around me and protected me until I died iirc. This is not a single incident tho, it happen multiple times, that a guard forms around me, which is always lovely to see and warms me :)
I have many such stories - some smaller, some bigger, most forgotten by time. The FRC actually has a "Sunhaven Guard" (this is not a recruitment Rob haha), who are people whose job is to protect Red Cross medics. They are a separate group from the FRC, with their own tag, ranks, etc.

I always try to bring a little role-playing in when I play and gradually increase throughout my time playing.
If I'm in some huge combat scenario lots of role-playing but more laid-back quiet moments it can disappear or at least shrink.
Of course it really depends on my mood and state of the war as it affects me pretty bad. It's hard to put on a role when we've been losing non-stop and most of those I'm playing with don't know what they are doing so I have to take on a leadership role

I'm split between people who LARP. Like, yeah I get it. People want to add another dynamic to the game. I'm all for that. But when, let's say, I'm solo loading MULTIPLE tanks to take via ship to another hex when the seaport is down (War 112 Fingers), don't stop to try that character stuff, don't say "Oh you're parked wrong" and don't touch my tanks trying to male the area "neater". I will open fire after warning you twice.
Read the room. If you want to get in on some of the action, then let's go!
Also, for those that haven't served in any military that want to learn certain phrasing and jargon. There's SEVERAL actual veterans, like myself, that served in some capacity. Most of us don't really speak the military linguo as to make it easier on our civilian counterparts. But whenever there's someone on the front asking "What do you mean sector of fire and covering the defilade?", it's always cool to explain it in a manner that makes sense for not just the one person asking, but everyone else around us.
Overall, LARP if you want to, just please be courteous and ensure you know the reading of the room so it doesn't hinder people too much

On a serious note, I believe that roleplaying (especially on the front) is inportant as it reminds people what foxhole really is... a freakin game! And it always helps cut the tension. If you dont dig the role play then thats ok too. Just dont opress people who want (or dont want), mute button is a tool that the devs have given us if you really feel that strongly about it. For me, larping only really works if you fully commit to it and don't break the act, and when you and others can do that larping/roleplaying can be insanely fun.
I remember when I first started playing (War 94? About 2 months after Inferno came out), I was a Collie and dropped into a hilly map (Reaching Trail I think?) and I ran into 2 other guys with an Abandoned Bardiche. We got it refueled, got like a dozen rounds and went for the front.
We started fighting 3 Cruiser Tanks, and in the middle of the fight a major snowstorm hit, we couldn't see shit and thats when the larp truly started. The best way I could describe it was that it was the voicelines from GHPC and Fury combined, we were able to disable 1, knocked out another which we were able to capture and the 3rd we knocked out completely.
One of the reasons why I think the larp worked really well then was because it wasn't us being 'pretend terrified', **we were legitimately scared shitless**. Fighting 3 enemy tanks while completely alone, in the middle of the snowstorm/blizzard and as it was still somewhat daytime we couldn't see the tanks clearly but we also couldn't see the headlights as it wasn't dark enough which made it feel a bit like a horror game.

I think the naval hexes are important, hence the current war situation... Not sure calling out the Fingers members as "role players" helps the faction. We held down a logistic town and put pressure on Tempest Island, which is a victory point. Saying the islands dont matter frustrates those who help with GB's and holding down a lane.

In every game I play, roleplay is a factor that pops up more often than not. But it has to tie heavily to what you are doing for it to be truly enjoyable.
There's no point pretending to be an officer if your in game rank is too low and you know nothing about the higher end of game strategies.
I feel often times people say its disruptive because they aren't involved, but in reality we are all roleplaying all the time.
If you do logistics, you are roleplaying that role. You receive orders over maps and radio, and use that information to farm and produce supplies to ferry forwards, so why not throw in some harmless dialogue pertaining to what you are already doing non-verbally.
If you tank, you are roleplaying a tanker. A commander needs to keep a good line of communication with his driver, gunner, and other tank commanders. It is in no way hard to add some vigor and urgency to your work, considering you already have your feelings over trying to win the fight.
If you're just an infantryman, you're always calling out enemy positions anyway. You use the levelling system in game by default to know who to listen to, as those with higher ranks are much more knowledgeable than you. So why not throw in a simple "yes sir" or "great idea/job (rank)", it harms nobody and helps players both new and old feel like they are making a difference in the continuity of the game.
Roleplay in all my experiences in all games, is not ever a harmful thing. Trolls and Greifers can pass their stuff off as RP to get out of trouble, but its obvious they aren't RPing and it never works.
As long as you are respectful to the people around you, bad things wont come from slapping in a little bit of immersion into the game

But the only one time (many times) that I freaking hate roleplay is when they use music to boost morale or they use chill music. Like, dude, stop it.
