Need to make a bend in some conduit? Well here's a video on how to do it with a piece of 2x4. No need to spend money on a bender or those pricey little pieces of pre-bent conduit.
I have one bend to do for a kids prop, going to give this a try. Jave no idea how you got 65 thumbs down?? This is exactly how fathers and grandfather's pass down tricks of the trade to the younger generation. You're doing it right.
Tried it today. Two "box bends" with 3/4" EMT. Worked great! Easy and quick. Thanks for making the video. Saved me a trip to the store and wasting $$$ on a bender that I didn't need. Thanks for sharing.
This worked perfectly to bend 1/2 EMT conduit. I think the "secret" is in adding the sand to the tubing prior to bending. Use of the 2 x 4 was a great idea. Thanks for taking the time to share this video!
Running 1" EMT in my garage, going to give your method a try; I only have 4 bends to make. I bought the pre-bent pipe, but if a little bit of extra effort can save me some dollars I will give it a go. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks very much, great idea! I had an old pipe bender that broke and didn't want to go out and buy a new one, as I rarely use it. This should work a charm, as I only have one or two conduits to bend.
For as many times as Home Depot has screwed me over with inaccurate in-store stock counts, I wouldn't feel too bad doing the buy/return dance every once in a while.
Yep. Town of Menasha. Appleton before that. Most of my life except for 4 years in the Navy. Seems like we are the only ones in the world that don't have an accent ;>)
FYI, just used your method on two pieces I needed to bend 180 deg. With 5” radius and it worked very well. Thanks! :)
u go home depot, select your pipe sizes.bend it before you scan it from the machine, that machine wouldn't ask why your conduit is bended.

Thank you so much. Very innovative and practical solution to being able to bend conduit without the added expense of a bender for my infrequent need.

The sand idea is a very good idea. That's what I should have done. Thanks for watching and commenting. Mark
that is a great idea to use sand. how much sand did it take to fill a 10-foot piece of 1/2" conduit?
My husband says rock salt works to prevent kinks, add first, plug ends. Clamp the bender to post

What a great idea! Just took the $83 bender kit out of my cart. ;)

Thank You. :) This helped a lot of with the end of my project. Not enough bending to purchase a bender, just a couple pieces.. brilliant. :D
+Vintabilly's Nest ....Glad it helped out. Mark

Same here, a 1" bender runs about $90.00. Cannot justify that for four bends.

Thanks for making this video you saved me some $$$$ . Cheers from down under
Seems it would be ideal for small offsets. Was going to just leave the pipe straight but may try it this way.
i’m working on an exhaust for my minibike and this worked great tysm!
Awesome sir! Just what I was looking for!
Great idea! Thanks. Your bends came out great too and you did not need to fill the pipe with sand.
Thanks for the comment.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH..
Im convinced to buy a bender now.
Thanks. I bent some 1" conduit using your method!
Thumbs up! 1" is getting up there in size. Did you have much trouble getting it to bend?
BUMP I need 1-1/4"
Thanks, this is great for just a few pieces, not worth buying a bender... thumbs up!
Double thumbs up!
I love option 2 always get funny looks but I don't care

Good idea Mark, thanks for the tip!
1 inch conduit split the 2x4 right down the center.
If you could buy a pipe, why can you rent a bender from HD or Loews.
If you don’t care at all about it looking professional I guess this works? Yikes just buy a bender
Oh my, that's kinky 😉
It's gonna kink Everytime . somebody got an old bender they want to donate?
I can't believe that you actually advocated being dishonest
This is the most jerry rigged thing I have ever seen
When one can make a good job with practice
for all the bs. my time is worth more...just buy the dam bender
josekma1 Takes about 1 minute to drill one hole in scrap 2x4. Much quicker than driving to the big box store. Going to try it tomorrow.
Your time worth more ?!? Really but you took the time to watch this right ?!? Haha your a joke ........
this method blows
