Do you guys think ASW screwed up with HOW they casualized the combos in strive? They could have found a way to keep the long sexy combos but still keep it simple for new players.
Short answer? Yes. Long answer? They already had stylish mode, and the Gatling system was already extremely intuitive. There was absolutely no reason for ASW to massacre one of their own greatest contributions to the entire fighting game genre the way they did.
@@Corruption922 My guy, gatling is not a new concept and it was not invented by Arcsys so calm down. Lighter normals canceling into heavier ones, was a thing way back then, the only difference is that Guilty Gear had five buttons instead of three. Stylish mode in retrospect was not a good option for newbies, because it allowed you to take 30 percent extra damage, and restricted their combo potential, thus newbie who used it would lose much quicker and easier without having experimented with combos in the game. I still wonder who really stylish mode was for ?, since its cons really weren't beneficial to a new player in the long run. But they didn't deconfirm stylish mode in strive. Plus there is was reasons why they remove gatling: 1. Gatling allowed for long block strings. 2. It allowed big conversions of light jabs, like the punch button. 3. Shorten of combo routes means the shorten of bad decision making players have to make.
@@rachetmarvel931 So, I did some research and you're correct, it seems Darkstalkers was the first series to have a "gatling" style combo system with its chain attacks. I wasn't aware of that and associated that combo style with Guilty Gear. That being said, stylish mode was clearly intended for people who didn't play fighting games but still wanted to be able to do cool stuff. Those are the kinds of people who will lose anyways to better players, but at least they will have fun being able to pull off a handful of flashy combos in the process, and I can speak from experience because I was that player back when Xrd Sign first came out and one of my roommates bought the game. I was the filthiest of casuals, and stylish mode was the hook that kept me playing long enough to want to properly learn the game. Yes, stylish mode has cons, but people who are that new to fighting games don't know enough about the genre to understand how limited stylish mode is. They just want to do flashy fighting game things, which is precisely what stylish mode enables. Now, I know those were some of the reasons the devs gave for why they gutted the gatling system, but here's the thing: 1) Long blockstrings aren't inherently bad, and the game provided plenty of defensive options for players to use, allowing the defender to re-take offense. In fact, long blockstrings are the end result of having a free-form combo system that allows for a plethora of exciting interactions to occur from the very start of the match, unlike Strive where it truly felt like I could not start to have fun with the combat until I had enough Tension to use Roman Cancels. 2) Conversions off of jabs were heavily prorated and thus suboptimal, and furthermore being able to face-roll P>K>S>HS>Special is a godsend for newer players because it allows for a quick and easily understandable combo that is easy to confirm, as opposed to Strive where the punch and kick buttons are extremely limited and less intuitive. When I played the recent beta, it often felt like I was fighting the game as much as my opponent, which is not the kind of thing that encourages me to keep playing. 3) Shortening combo routes also reduces the amount of decisions players can make, period. Yes, you have fewer points where you can fuck up, but as a result a single mistake become extremely punishing. Combos in Strive are so short and so damaging that it only takes two or three mistakes to lose a round. In addition, when I played the beta I felt that the combos were less rewarding precisely because of how short and explosive they were. With the old system, high damage was your reward for consistently making a series of correct decisions and having the skill to capitalize on those decisions. I'm sorry this turned into a bit of an essay, but Xrd Sign, and then Revelator, was the first fighting game I really fell in love with, and I'm incredibly disappointed in the direction ArkSys has taken the series. I should really just avoid anything to do with Guilty Gear at this point, because I just end up pissed off.
@@gbong802 they had to since her game plan in rev was keeping you in the corner and since strive has wallbreak she’d be pretty useless. She’s better than she was in rev but more simple and less fun imo but some people prefer it which is cool regardless
Pretty sure the DP is a 2 frame window cause I can fo it basically every time. I also do a crouch dash input cause I find it more comfortable, it's 6523 rather than 623 so on p2 side you do 4 with your thumb then release and the rest of your hand does the remaining quarter circle. Another thing I learned playing Baiken is you can do 236858K for air tatami gaishi which is stupidly plus and I've been able to apply that to other characters like Juri in SF4
