- On November 10, 2022, SF Heritage hosted a moderated panel discussion with local civic partners exploring housing and historic preservation. Led by our board of directors’ Projects & Policy Committee, this community conversation focused on recent California State housing bills and their impacts on historic resources and housing stock, and strategies for adding housing while maintaining community vitality. We hope that this will be a springboard for future discussions on this topic, hosted by SF Heritage as part of our preservation outreach and awareness-raising efforts.
Our panelists:
o Scott Wiener, California State Senator, former SF City Supervisor, District 8
o Glynis Nakahara, co-chair of Land Use and Transportation Committee, Japantown Task Force
o Fernando Martí, architect, housing activist, printmaker, writer, poet
o Chris Foley, Founder and Partner, Ground Matrix; Commissioner, San Francisco Historic Preservation Commission
o Rachel Brahinsky, Ph.D, Associate Professor of Politics & Urban Studies, University of San Francisco
Moderated by J.K. Dineen, SF Chronicle, with support from Katherine Petrin and Brad Paul, SF Heritage board members, and Karalyn Monteil, SF Heritage President & CEO.
