McCoy Tyner !!!! One of the finest !!! His music was ever evolving !!! Post Coltrane, the albums on Blue Note and Milestone were highly influential. Along with Randy Weston and Abdullah Ibrahim (Dollar Brand), Mccoy Tyner brought African rhythms into Jazz. His influence can be heard on Brad Mehldau and Mulgrew Miller.
People do tend to forget sometimes that Trane wanted McCoy in his quartet, that he considered Tyner's contribution to the overall sound and concept John was trying to achieve as important as Elvin Jones on drums/percussion was.
Helpful video for those unfamiliar with the legendary McCoy Tyner. However, I'm curious who was playing piano on the soundtrack. It didn't sound like McCoy to me. Also, be reminded that he was naturally left-handed. To play those incredible pentatonic right-hand lines without using his dominant side is truly amazing.
