I have a huge respect for community medicine doctors. Medical students forget that the goal is not just studying. Community medicine doctors are probably the doctors that are most important in the healthcare of any country. These doctors lead the government programmes. NTEP, vector disease control programme and all such community level programmes are the reason why our country's health has improved. I respect all highly specialized doctors that sacrifice years of their lives and study hard to become surgeons, cardiologists, radiologists etc. But the ground level changes brought by community doctors are far greater than any super specialist.
The most authentic and the most relatable video on psm on youtube. I have watched atleast 10 videos on psm, and the way you have described the field, the reasons why you chose the field is something beyond comparison. Thankyou so much for making this video❤
A lotta undergrads are not aware of the job opportunities and prospects of an MD PSM? A detailed video would be really helpful for aspirants and maybe eye opening for others. Pls do consider😌
Hello Arun, I don’t mind making a video on job opportunities at all but it’ll be based on what I’ve heard not experienced. Since I’m in 2nd year, I do not know how easy or tough is it for various jobs in various sectors like education, public health, development sector etc and hence refraining to comment till I get an experience myself :)
Having said that I will definitely try and see if I get professionals who have passed MD Community Medicine and are working in various sectors and they can share their experiences.
Hi, apart from handling immunisation OPD and animal bite cases (ARV clinics) there are general OPDs we see in RHTC and UHTC. Most common issues we treat for or advice investigations include URTI, LRTI, Gastro intestinal symptoms, pain , fever etc. We provide the baseline management and then refer them and other cases to specialists
Depends on if you want to do DNB. But usually the opportunities as far as I know for PSM are much more in MD. You will need to speak to people from St.Stephens and ask for scope and academics of DNB Community Medicine as very less is known
Mam .. I'm a govt Doc on MBBS level... In my state there is a quota for service PG.. So mere qualification marks can get me into almost any PG...But i am sick n tired of studying ..Now what branch would you suggest with your experience... Ofcourse i want a good salary too... as i am not interested in having own setup.
Hi, unfortunately there’s studying in every branch of MD. You can never escape studying because that’s going to be throughout on different scales. I would always suggest you to choose the branch you are interested in. It all boils down to that. If its a branch you really love, you would like new learning experiences
Such a honesty..really appreciate you for this one..maam I am in the same situation stuck in a rank where I can't get most of the clinical branches ..and have interest in working in periphery which I love ..kindly advice me should I take psm..because I like this as a subject..
Its a competitive exam and ofcourse everything about NEET PG depends on the rank first. That’s the basis of the exam. But that doesn’t mean you always have to compromise on a branch you like. Especially now, when there’s Diploma, DNB, DNB Diploma options available for each branch too. I know of many people who couldn’t get a rank for MD/MS in a branch they really liked but chose Diploma/DNB in the same branch.
Ma'am, i got MD PSM at Gandhi medical College, bhopal seat in MOP up round. I don't like clinicals and patient interactions that's why I had kept MD radiology as my dream branch. My marks are low in this exam. I am worried about job prospects of PSM. are there plenty jobs available. (major concern)
hi Saurabh, there are opportunities in various fields after PSM. But please don’t get into it comparing it with how life would have been after taking Radio.
Dr saurabh even radio is my branch but I didn't got it so even I don't want patient interaction but want Any nomclncal or parsclimical sub brcz I HV a lung nd heart disrase but my last goal was to Be a clinician so am confused beaten patho Pharma Psm
Thankyou Dr. Can I ask you about other details of other colleges in Maharashtra, I am aspiring to take PSM in this year counselling, and am literally confused regarding which college to choose. Can you help me..
Hi, answered this in my FAQs video. AIQ : Yes - depending on which states you apply to. So if you’re specific about 2-3 states may get difficult. State quota : depends on your state rank and the number of seats :)
I am not confuse but my pocket doesn't allow me to study md internal medicine... So I left with psm .. madam could you please share what would be the expected salary for SR/AP ? AND do we (psm) get jobs in foreign countries?
@Justin Glb Hi! The salaries vary from state to state. An approx average would be 80k to 1L for SR Posts. More in some states even. There are limited opportunities abroad after MD PSM. Mostly in development sector if you go ahead joining an international organization. But in terms of practicing, there’s limited scope because each country has a license exam to practice there.
Depends on state to state. Each state has different stipend. You can refer this mcc.nic.in/Applicant/Report/ViewInstituteProfileDetail.aspx?enc=yVQCIiq12npg+pcvNJRdc6V9yeFChrh6tOdcykq+w3j29uLUsRxm7DOOnz3AsCn9
Hi, more than the college being at periphery, check how the college and it’s exposure is. Some colleges might be in periphery but if its accessible and safe, and if the department has a lot of exposure and opportunities, you will learn better there
Hi, for residency you need to pass NEET PG and get a rank enough to get a seat. That’s the eligibility. You can always do diploma/other courses if you have time after exam and before admissions. And once in, you can better your CV for jobs by publishing research papers, again doing some smaller addon courses, utilising opportunities in public health projects :)
Depends on state to state. If it’s through NEET PG counselling, fees for MD Community Medicine could be from 4/5L to even 10/15L but will be lower that clinical branches in most colleges
Hi Ashwin. It doesn’t matter if you’re an Introvert or Extrovert to take any branch. What’s important is if you can convey to patients what you wish to , in a polite, complete and understandable manner. And yes you will be required to speak to people when it comes to research work and in OPDs but patient interaction happens in almost all branches. Only the length of interaction varies. So decide accordingly :)
Mam my question is that after completing MD in community medicine person can only practice as professor of community medicine in medical College or he / she can also open his / her own clinic and practice as doctor there ? Please reply me If he / she can open his / her own clinic and practice as doctor there then which diseases he / she can treat there ? Please reply my both questions
Hi Bhart, don’t forget you’ll always be a physician and irrespective of which branch you choose, you can always have your own private practice since you have completed MBBS. Regarding WHICH diseases you can practice, will depend on any further diplomas/fellowships you do but you can treat common minor ailments for sure and for any emergency care or major issues, you can always refer.
Hi, I don’t think any one can suggest that to you. That’s supposed to be completely your choice If you have equal interest in both, may be weigh the other pros and cons of each?
I have a huge respect for community medicine doctors. Medical students forget that the goal is not just studying.
