Almost so perfect it breaks your heart. She is a jewel of our time. Abbado is another great genius of our day and his care of his soloists is very fine.
Marly Harris I agree with you completely. Everytime I play this I have to reach for the tissues. It's not just about the voice but the way the Orchestra and Abbado accompany her, truly delicious.
3 beautiful, but very different songs performed by a great singer. Renee has a very powerful voice, but her Nacht und Traume is, in my opinion, just PERFECTION. All exquisite. Such lovely control of her immense power!
3 beautiful songs but the Nacht und Traume is just wonderful - as near perfection as you can get. Such control of her tremendous power. Though I am not a lover of Renee's tone this is just exquisite.
Although I am not a great lover of Renee's tone in general, this Nacht und Traume is exquisite! Wonderful to the point of perfection! Well done Renee, Claudio and the Lucerne Festival Orchestra.
Great orchestrations of Schubert songs by Reger and Britten. Especially noteworthy are the liquid clarinets in Die Fiorelle, beautifully played by Sabine Meyer and her husband Reiner Wehle.
Night, i'll share my dream with you/let me hide in your heart so tender/ memory returns to haunt me/ love falls asunder/where's comfort to be found?/my tears well in my eyes/ in this the thickest of winter/ my every hope dies/shield me, oh shield me, night, my friend/ abide with me till the end
I'd love to know what was going through Abbado's mind at the end of the 2nd song; he seems amused. The frock is a disaster but the voice, and what a voice, is on top form. No whooping and scooping. Beautifully sung interpretations of beautifully arranged Schubert.
At 10:42, the great Schubert interpreter bass-baritone Thomas Quasthoff can be seen at the back of the hall looking very appreciative of Ms. Fleming's wonderful performance.
Beautiful, and very interestingly transcribed by two great composers. I am a bit surprised that Reger did not bring out the ostinato heartbeat in the bass of "Gretchen"--if not on the tympani, at least in low strings pizzicato. And I would love to hear Brahms's setting of "Ellen's Second Song" for horns.
There's a recording of that very Brahms orchestration on a CD of Schubert Songs orchestrated by various composers sung by Fleming and Thomas Quasthoff, conducted by Abbado. Ausgezeichnet!

It is generally considered that this woman is about the best in the world right now but who are some others. Just opinions everyone has one and should be respected, just for fun, please I don't want this to get nasty.
I have, and I love Jesse, there are many that are outstanding, that have not maybe gotten the acclaim, that they could have, but yes I do know Jesse Norman.
Ganz ehrlich, nicht mein Fall: Aussprache grenzwertig, Die Stimme wirkt irgendwie eng und „froschig“, Interpretation überstürzt und unnatürlich...geht gar nicht, wie ich find.
This is a travesty. Hear her slide and scoop her way through these Lieder. Terribly distasteful and unidiomatic. Breaking News: Singing is about soooooooo much more than showcasing a pretty voice.
Her German is not good. i in Wieder is too open and i in sinkest is too closed. Her mute endding pn "e" is inconsistent. Do you think Schubert would've been happy with her singing? And why is she showing so much of her chest when she is singing such a art songs. I can go on and on. Terrible singing!!!!
It's been years and this version of Gretchen will forever be untouched.❤
This was a supreme example of Ms Fleming's artistry and Abbado and the orchestra were spot on in their roles. Thank you very much.
Eine göttlich schöne Stimme - und Abbado? Wie sehr ich ihn vermisse.....
Every time I listen to Nacht und Träume, tears in my eyes. Heavenly music.
Almost so perfect it breaks your heart. She is a jewel of our time. Abbado is another great genius of our day and his care of his soloists is very fine.
Incredible beautiful...Renee sings like an angel...
This is the Renee Fleming whom I adore. Absolutely exquisite music making. No coy mannerisms this time. Perfection. Abbado is wonderful.
Marly Harris I agree with you completely. Everytime I play this I have to reach for the tissues. It's not just about the voice but the way the Orchestra and Abbado accompany her, truly delicious.
Gosh this is exquisite

She looks and sounds like an angel.
Breath taking! Abbado is as amazing as always too.
Abbado, Forever a legend. Never surpassed!
3 beautiful songs but the Nacht und Traume is just wonderful - as near perfection as you can get. Such control of her tremendous power. Though I am not a lover of Renee's tone this is just exquisite.
The Nacht und Traume is so beautiful - perfect notes, perfect sound, perfectly delivered.
Abbado made great orchestra sounds back of Flemming's beautiful singing - great harmony indeed!!!
This woman can do just about anything she wants with her magnificent voice, she sounds like she is German really, an American jewel.
Eric Day et
awesome and amazing. i love her voice perfect.
Although I am not a great lover of Renee's tone in general, this Nacht und Traume is exquisite! Wonderful to the point of perfection! Well done Renee, Claudio and the Lucerne Festival Orchestra.
3 great performances - each song is so different, but beautifully sung. Her Nacht and Traume is just PERFECTION. Wonderful. Thanks for posting.
Brawississimo ! Wunderschone interpretation ! Brawississimo !
Wow!!!!! That was FANTASTIC!!!!
A jewel box, subtle, each note placed with exquisite care. At the top of her form!
Thank you EuroArtsChannel, adorable performance. Lovely way to start the day. Beautiful video. Applause and thanks again.
Prachtig can't hear enough of this voice
-- Une grande voix, un grand chef, un immense compositeur. --
Gorgeous, Nacht und Traume especially moving.
This is the one I like. She has perfect control of her amazing power -- just wonderful.
Has ANYONE ever written more beautiful songs than Schubert?
The angelic voice..how peaceful.. DIVA.
Sie macht das wunderbar. Auch die deutsche Aussprache ist für eine Amerikanerin exzellent.
Amazing Renée!,,
Absolutely beautiful thank you Ms Flemming, Merri
Gorgeous singing

Maravillosa Renée Fleming
Magnifico.
Tres maravillosas canciones --Canta Renée Fleming
This is the best TH-cam channel ever.
Though I am not a great lover of Renee's tone in general I think this is exquisite! Almost perfect.
She is only the best in the world.
Schubert had a Sublime ,and Spiritual connection to the Human Soul , just to Voice it in Music and Voice.
adorable Renée!
So good

1:40 I needed to see his ring. Thank you.
It's amazing!
THANK YOU!!!....

Tres canciones bellísimas
OMG 0_0 So impressive!!

merci.grazie....celestiale...Pax...

BELLISIMA!
Hmmm... Reger's orchestration sounds quite Straussian! Niiice!

Britten was a magnificent orchestrator.

Sang girl sang.
Schubert is perfect but Reger makes it even more perfect ... Britten is not bad, too.

it seemed to me or it was natalya gutman among the cellists?
is there a dvd available?
Die forelle under Britten glance , recreated

Was Claudio Abbado sick at this time? He looked sick!
When in 2005 was this concert filmed?
Do you think Bruno Walter would conduct such a concert?
Go to his grave and ask him.
A very female singer.
Pity. Just stuck like that: a Silver Rose.
Why is she singing so choppy in Die Forelle? There should be a sound of innocence of child watching a thief (fisher) trying to catch a trout!!!
I think “Die Forelle” sounds better with piano accompaniment. (As on Renée’s Schubert album)
@@janetflier6192 , I totally agree. I love to see Lotte Lehmann with Bruno Walter at the piano. Fleming sings without any imagination of the scene.
@@FranzFischerSDG I don't think Walter conducts anymore because he is long DEAD as well as Lehmann.

Um, that's not how you spell Fleming....

A sublime singing miracle, but a very questionable outfit :D
What’s wrong with her outfit??
Ganz ehrlich, nicht mein Fall: Aussprache grenzwertig, Die Stimme wirkt irgendwie eng und „froschig“, Interpretation überstürzt und unnatürlich...geht gar nicht, wie ich find.
5:23 Downs Syndrome lad on Cello
Did you perform a karyotype on his chromosomes?
I love her, but her tounge placement is horrific. The tounge is supposed to rest behind the bottom teeth but her tounge is always pulled back.
Who cares where her tongue is? She SOUNDS wonderful!!
Why don't you call her up and complain. I'm sure she will hire you as a voice coach.
This is a travesty. Hear her slide and scoop her way through these Lieder. Terribly distasteful and unidiomatic. Breaking News: Singing is about soooooooo much more than showcasing a pretty voice.
You seem to be in the minority but I can hear and see what you mean.
You could be another voice coach for her. I'm sure she'll hire you.
Her German is not good. i in Wieder is too open and i in sinkest is too closed. Her mute endding pn "e" is inconsistent. Do you think Schubert would've been happy with her singing? Boo!! Hiss!!!
Claudio seemed to be happy with her performance. I'm sure he spoke German.
