  • There are a ton of different styles of Christmas lights on the market today. When you need to purchase new lights to match what you already have or had...how do you know what style of light you need? When purchasing strings of Christmas lights for decoration, the first consideration is the bulb size and type of bulb. But you need to know its name so you can properly shop both in the stores and online. For instance, mini LED Lights are also called M5 LEDs. These tiny lights are perfect for small Christmas trees or accent lighting, or perhaps for a wreath. Today's video is meant to give you a quick overview of the many types of Christmas lights you will find in the big box stores and shareware stores each season. If you need to find out what type of Christmas light bulb you have, there are also links to other resources further down in this description. Unfortunately, the "Actual Size" chart has been removed from its website.

      @Christmas on Crestline I know I don't have enough types to consider me close to having all of the types of bulbs, I just have like all of the basics, and then some

    Have you done a video on bases? Trying desperately to find info on bases. My mini tree lights are slightly larger than style “d” bases with locking tab. Would love to find replacement bulbs already in sockets for my style base.

      I think you are asking about pre-lit tree bulbs. I actually just interviewed John DeCosmo about this topic: th-cam.com/users/live_O-9UtqxqzM?si=pJtTVQbDZfyvlbmZ He explains that pre-lit tree lights are not generally fixable and rarely can be replaced. The failsafe is to phone the manufacture to get replacements. If you have the Twinkly tree you can reach them here: help.twinkly.com/en/help/kb-tickets/new

    I need the small cone shaped one that looks like the C3 but that's plug in with a wider flat bottom, rather than screw in.
    Is the C3 a screw in or plug in?

    • @ChristmasOnCrestline
      @ChristmasOnCrestline  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      C3s won't screw in. Screw-ins start at the larger sizes. Normally this starts at the C7 range but it is very common with the C9s. I believe you are describing C6 diamond patterned lights like these: www.christmasdesigners.com/christmas-lights/led-christmas-lights/c6-led-christmas-lights.html One easy trick is to take a photo and have it qued into an email. Call a supplier and tell them you have a specific bulb that you need, and that you have a close-up photo of the bulb and its socket ready to email them to see it. You'd email the address they give you and you'd be able to get real-time feedback on your answer.

    Love your info! Just getting to fixing my 5 free standing collapsible metal outdoor trees. Cut off all the prewired dim lights and restringing using gutter clips. Question: i only need one last 100-light led string but only have a T5 size string. Can I plug that into the C6 strings? Watts are the same. Each tree used about 300 lights winding round and round.

      You should be good to go, Anita. If these are meant to be static use trees and you are not animating them with a computer, you should be fine. If you have these as part of an animated light show then they may not function correctly with fades and other effects. But, if you are just plugging them in and letting them shine, you should be just fine.

      @Christmas on Crestline Wow! I'm just so impressed with your attentiveness, and I feel I'm good to go now.. Happy Stringing! Wish I knew how to attach a pic of my 70-year-old lady's deco attempt.

      I start hanging lights in September and I am usually finished by Thanksgiving night. This year, we will do a soft opening Thanksgiving and open up to the public the Saturday after.

    Could we actually get a video on the different sockets? I have replacement LEDs but not the right sockets, if i can get the right sockets, could i not just swap it into the correct socket?

    • @ChristmasOnCrestline
      @ChristmasOnCrestline  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You nailed it, Kdel. If you get the correct sockets, you can indeed swap them out. I've added your video suggestion to my video que.

    I have a red bulb kinda like the the c9 on the thumbnail how do I turn it on?

    • @ChristmasOnCrestline
      @ChristmasOnCrestline  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can simply screw it into either a candela or buy an empty string that allows for screw in bulbs and create your very own unique string.

    do they make c3 style lights in incandescent? i've only ever seen either the mini ones or the big bulbs for incandescent lights.

      I know they make several sizes, but I've never seen a C3 bulb for incandescent bulbs.
