  • This is my long awaited review of JayJays Gen4 Webbing, in full Multicam. This is their most expensive model, but is well worth it and will allow a very long tactical use life in light infantry operations.

In the 1980s we used to sew 68 pattern water bottle pouches together to get the four pouch rear set up.
Four rear pouches give a shelf for a short bergen to sit on, and the belt can take the weight on the hips.
My load out for the pouches are two water bottles on the outer with metal mug. Centre two have mess tin (small) with food, brew kit, and odds and ends. Front pouches are for ammunition. A poncho/tarp can be put flat on the pouch shelf. Molle for attaching scrim.
The basic waist fighting battle order should get one through 48 hours at a push if isolated from friendly forces/support.
Other stuff goes in the bergen or smock pockets.
Chest rigs are popular because of the prolific reliance on vehicles. Given a choice I'd always go for a waist carry system.

What I find interesting is that all the iterations US hanging gear we’ve gone through, the new A-TAP reminds me of JayJays. The first time I saw it I’m thinking, “So our new gear is something JayJays have been doing for decades?” 🤦🏻‍♂️🤣

Bro the atap is a chest rig not belt kit 🤦‍♂️

This is a great piece of kit. Just know that short and wide packs fit with this setup while the long and thinner packs will ride too high, sitting on the belt kit. This will push against the back of your head preventing you from going prone effectively

Alice, British shortbacks and Crossfire packs are built for these setups

Interesting to hear a lot of British terms with an American accent, brilliant bit of kit. Brilliant video :)

Jay jays is the way. I have the chameleon kit. I went with the Jay Jays mag pouches on support side and a Platatac Billy pouch on the strong side. I can carry a pistol in the back of the Billy pouch and it also has the same capacity of the Jay Jays commander pouch. I have the Jay Jays yoke as well. The entire system just Carries sustainment load so well. I have the bum roll but I can’t recommend it. It’s built to Jay Jays quality, it’s just too small for anything I’d use it for. I bought it to hold a swagman roll but it’s not even close to fitting. A windshirt or a couple sandbags are about it.
Great review and good to see people stateside working out the Jay Jays kit. It was my final stop for extended line 2 kit.

You can also get a large ammo pouch to take two fifty round 7.62 linked belts for the GPMG and four boxses of 5.56 lose ammo or put a mid drop holster system useing the Blackhawk detachable system so if you need to and your a driver you can place a female useing the molly attachment to the top left chest of your plate carrier

As for the little flap you said at min 2:28, you cut of, it is an important piece of the closure to fasten the pouch lid securely. I wanted just to add this, in case you didn´t knew. Thanks for sharing, regards Torsten

It annoys me to no end that people don’t now how to use Spanish buckles properly, although they are still a pain

Mate dont worry about the velcrow it will last 5-6 years+ if you look after it. Also you could just get some tailored on privately or use that lifetime garentee

I just received my Commanders kit. Excellent quality. I forgot to order the yoke but luckily had a couple of the Danish PLCE yokes handy so I am good until the Brit yoke arrives. Might need to make a chest strap as the straps are very wide on the chest when wearing a coat. Over the years I have tried to build my own version of this with various US molle gear and an HSGI battle belt. You can do it but it is not as solid of a fit IMO. You can easily fit two AK47 mags in the mag pouches or commanders pouch. One difference in US and Brit. I believe most of the US kit has a dedicated IFAK which is visible to others in your unit so they can treat you. As far as I can tell you would need to put it in a pouch (as doitriteak does) and tell others where it is.

IFAK placement is or should be unit SOP? I've been out of military for a long time, but haven't seen any IFAK pouches that look different from other ones. Except for size / shape. When I was in the Army our SOP was 1st aid on the offside yoke strap. And EVERYBODY used the yoke.

glad to see you like it, only issue for me is no big ol bumbag but that's more of a personal taste thing than anything else. I can see how having stuff divided might be beneficial but idk I just want somewhere to store a succulent meal. For me it makes no sense as its 8x the price of DPM PLCE webbing for a little more comfort.

On sustained dismounted operations you will notice the difference. PLCE webbing often needed modifications like the hippo pad and bungee to prevent grinding and bouncing. As far as a meal, you can fit more than one stripped MRE in one pouch.

I still got back to my ALICE system just because I have it custom Modded to my body and can reach worn pouches easy

I’ve had the Jayjay’s for a couple years now.
Maybe it’s a batch issue with the GT Cobra buckles but my buckles have had no grittiness out of the box. Also with the waist straps I would recommend leaving one side loosened so you can quick adjust the tightness on the waist to shift the weight between the shoulder and waist. This harks back to the old but trusty roll-pin buckle that still sees use today with other “tailored” British webbing, where the user can tighten or loosen the waist as they please. Same for the yoke on front, leave the front shoulder straps loose because they have ladderlock buckles, easy quick and easy to adjust throughout the day.
It’ll basically work like rucksack straps.
If I had anything to complain about the Jayjay’s, I would nitpick about wishing the pouches had more structure/shape to them. It’s just a single layer 1000D cordura.
Velcro has been a nonissue so far but I can understand the sentiment.

I suppose its molle and you could get your hands on some Osprey pouches, MTP and pretty strong(or is it just one layer too?)
Still looking for a belt setup, thinking about a battle belt with suspenders and putting Osprey pouches in PLCE type setup on it.
I am on a budget, so velocity sytems or the JayJays are simply too explensive. Surplus seems to be both IRR and 1000D cordura.

You might wish to add a poncho in your webbing.
