As much I love the original Gameboy, I wonder if retroflag will ever make a GBA shell. That was a game changer back in the day.
That would be pretty awesome, maybe for the next round of Pi’s?
nintendo ds for me, clamshells IMO protect screens better
The GBA SP was my favorite handheld ever, even though it was a bit cramped for my big hands. I loved the flip and pocketability so much.
Look into Freeplay Tech they have your answer. I bought their Metal GBA shell that uses the Pi Zero and has PS Vita joysticks

I remember at start of year or so seeing a website that had them in stock at rrp and thinking nah I already own one (though was thinking of another for a pi hole) I should of just got one as haven't seen any online since.

Am one of those (arguably?) bad people who filled their shipping cart with a zero 2W when it was at MSRP to skip shipping fees and have been keeping it in the drawer ever since for the lack of ideas. Now finally this has come out 😊

one to replace my teeny tiny file/media server and ftp transfer box on and off my tablet (because kindle fire keeps demanding any micro sd card gets formatted to something neither windows nor linux likes for some reson, gaming handheld, and two rattling around 'in case.' Likely one going towards a personal media center box.
This is a definite buy for me. I have the original GPI Case with a Zero 2W already in it, but the upgrades this brings are worth having. The biggest weaknesses of the original are the screen resolution and the lack of an internal rechargeable battery.
So thankful they made a GPi Case just for the zero 2w. That's so awesome.

Seems like this is perfect to cover the old handheld systems. I’ll use it to enjoy gb to gba and every handheld in between.
Now if I can only get a Pi zero 2W, that would be nice.
I recently got a GPI CASE 2 that runs on a Raspberry Pi CM4. Works really well!
this is my dream design man, I usually just play gba/gbc games so this is the most perfect emulator design possible

I've got the first one, and it's great. This one is tempting, but for the $80 price point. It's just a bit too much given other available options that have better performance than a Pi Zero 2 can give you. That's if you can get a Pi Zero 2.
I’m really hoping there is a gpi case 3 coming with the dock and this IPS screen 🤞🏻. I’m currently holding out for it
i love the first gpi 2 case using the cm4 instead for better performance and ability to run more systems however disappointed in its support or lack there of i tried two different units and multiple emulation front ends older and newer versions of each tweaked multiple settings before finally giving up on getting the dock working which was a main selling point for me to have a portable gaming device capable of display out and io expansion would’ve been nice but clearly not a priority for retroflag or it’s support team
Some positive changes on this model: Better screen, replaceable and rechargeable battery, 2 more buttons, turbo buttons, Pi Zero 2 compatibility, improved sound. Good job fella'.
I love these handhelds from Retroflag but it's 2022... We need features like L2 and R2 and a sleep function. On the fence with purchasing one of these.
They added a velvet feel bag to the kit . I don't know if it is genuine velvet but it feels fancy.
I used to be a dedicated RetroPie enthusiast and I was also a huge fan of RetroFlag products. I spent a lot of money on hardware and countless hours configuring my systems. At some point, the basic stuff worked quite well, but everything always felt unfinished and unpolished. I was patient. But, after years, sadly, I grew extremely frustrated with the community, the lack of software improvements, loads of unfixed bugs and alltogether a bad emulation experience. Looking at this video now and this "new" GPi case, I must say I am not convinced. The hardware, the software,... pretty much everything still looks like a student's tinker project. I am still heavily into retro gaming, but I will go and look into other solutions... FPGA it is. Have fun everyone!

Hey ETA! Big Thanks for the nice Review. You mention the Zero2 can be overclocked to 1.2Ghz. Is that because of the lack of the cooling? Because in an other Video you explained that we can overclock to 1.3GHz with overvoltage 4.
I am not sure if i should Mod the Cartidge Case with a small 5V Fan ..😅 the cooling would only be on the back/pcb of the Zero2.

Phew thought this was an update to the cm4 model, been sitting on one for about 6 months now cause I cant find a damned cm4 lite for a price that doesn't make my soul bleed, so this would have been a kick in the nads
I wonder if the dpad is still bad?, I had to replace the original dpad with a GC Color one on the first GPI Case.

I have a zero 2W and received this case today. I've been busy and haven't had a chance to mess with it. The battery is listed at 2800 mha I see.
You can upgrade it to 4000 MHA. Someone on youtube did it.
Is this the same cartridge as the first case? I’m considering upgrading, but i have a few carts that i swap around instead of swapping micro sd cards, i know they’ll need a new image on them, but i want to know if the cartridge itself is compatable.

I wish they made something like this; but, instead of using a Pie it used the guts from a Galaxy S8 or S9. Those when they have dead screens and/or bad IMEIs are very common and dirt cheap on eBay or FBM as well as having a lot more raw performance than any Pie.

Hey Prime, do you know if the gpi mate cm3 cartridge would work for this? I have the gpi case 1 with the cm3 and the cartridge looks the same. I wonder if it's switchable. Any input is appreciated.
I bought one and already have the pi 2w. The issue now is finding something that runs because with my current card that was used in the 1st gpi case doesn't quite work with the newer 2w case. The image on screen is turned sideways and is much smaller than the expected output.

I still prefer the Miyuu Mini 2. the start up for the Gpi case 2 takes 10 times as long.
I have the orginal i don't like the directional pad, when ever i press down for some reason its as if im pressing down left or down right. I hope new has a better directional pad.
Now I just need to find a Pi Zero...
could you make a comparison with the retroflag gpi case zero w? like power consumption without the batteries in place. on the same game (use of a usb cable and a usb consumption tester). And with the batteries in place how long until they die.
Can we actually upgrade the original gpi case to the 2W ? If yes would be a nice option. At least if the prices from the raspberry pi`s come down.

So I'm having trouble getting the Zero W Gen 1 to work in the GPi Case 2w
I installed recalbox using the specific image on their support page for the 2W, which links to their github, using the Recalbox for GPiCase+Zero(8.1.1) link (not the zero2 link)
Everything goes smooth-ish from there. I do first boot, notice it's only using a small portion of the screen, let it finish it's install, then shut it down and put the SD back in to the computer so I can replace the contents of config.txt with gpicase2w_recalbox_zero_8.1.1. txt from their github, and then drop it back in to the zero. At this point, I have no video output to the screen. . . Can't really do anything with it from this point. . . Have you been able to get the Gen 1 ZeroW to work? Or am I just stuck shelling out scalper prices for the Zero W2

I bought Freeplay Techs metal Freeplay zero. (basically it's a metal GBA) The thing feels awesome but unfortunately I haven't been able to get my hands on a Zero 2w to power the thing. That would be a cool handheld to review on your channel. I really like the GBA feel and how the controls are laid out.
Does the old GPi-Dock work with this unit as well?
Okay, it looks neat doing it like that, but what really is the point in the rpi cartridge? Do people really have stacks of those lying around so they can waste one of those on a single game? All you need/want there is an easy way to swap out the sdcard, which can be done with a ribbon cable.
I stopped using the original case because I did not like to keep changing batteries. Now they put a battery in this model but no type c charge port...
Are there any builds available that are preloaded with roms that work?

Everything looks good on paper, but wished they would have supported the more powerful Pi 4 small factor board instead. We need more power and ventilation for overclocking.

Sega Genesis, Sega 32x, TurboGrafx 16, Nintendo 64 and Playstation were all in stereo. Also, many arcade games were in stereo. There might be others I'm not thinking of.
But on this small of a system mono is probably OK. I tend to only appreciate stereo on much larger screens.

So all this time I thought Primal Rage on 32x was slow because of the emulator, but turns out it was slow on the actual 32x too?
Back on topic, the case seems cool, and the upgrades are nice, however I think some of the other premade handhelds are a better value. I may still end up with one, however. I was a bit disappointed at the GPi 2 which needed a CM4. I ended up with one with eMMC storage and found out I can't use SD cards with that one.

Hi, back again! Still no answer. I removed the SD card from the console to update some stuff... After inserting the GPI Case 1 wont even boot anymore. Powerled stays of.. The only thing i did was pull out SD card and stick it back in... Anyone? Retroflag does not mail me back.
Now if only there was a place (Ireland here) to actually purchase a Pi! /sulk

Until they have 4 shoulder buttons this one is a tough sell at the price point.
What I really want is a PSP or PSVita style handheld where the comfort of grip and screen size is less of an issue.
With the price point of the Analogue Pocket… by the time you put a Pi in this thing… you are almost in the same ball park… and you are getting FPGA performance. You just gotta wait a year to get it.
RetroFlag makes some great things and I appreciate they are making new products.

This thing is the holy grail for Rpi zero2w owners... it is unfortunate that it is nearly $100. $60 would feel a helluva lot better due to handheld competition. Even a low end portable anbernic or similar will outperform the rpi zero2w. If you do not currently own a Rpi zero2w you should not even be looking at this product unless you just like burning money.
