Hi there ,,, many thanks for dropping by ,,,, don't recognise the name so presume we haven't spoken before ,,, sorry to hear of you mobility problems (My other half is in a similar position so I know how the 4 wall become a prison ) But she has very few interests ,,,, and has never taken to youtube ,,, but there is so much more on here than you get on the TV,,,, well I think so and im still reasonably fit and mobile, and find all manner of things interest all over the place,,,, and I follow quite a few chaps on here ,,,, try Mike,,, admiralscorner he puts up several videos a week and I have come to Know Minhead and Watchet very well ,,,, im afraid I don't get out as much as I used to ,,, (shopping cooking cleaning etc and trying to work as well soon knocks the motivation out of me im afraid ... ,,, but thanks for introducing yourself ,,,, and im only too happy that you fine something of interest in my few offerings ,,,, Cheers and best regards ,,,,,, Alan
Hi Peter thanks for dropping by ,,,, yes quite a crowd and that was just one viewing point,,, from some of the drown videos you can see the narrow lanes clogged with cars in places,,,,
I was checking you home page Alan as you know i don't get told about uploads anymore and found I had missed this gem of a video! What a grand sight and location. So good too of the farmer to open his field like that. Many years ago a group of us went train chasing late in the day as it was getting dark and entered a field without permission as so many people were already in there to be met by an angry farmer at the gate afterwards! That is something I wont do again!
Hi there Mike ,,, Yes what a smashing location as you say ,,, the church fund will have had quite a boost ,,, and what about them on the scissor lift ??? ten out of ten for effort there ,,,, So a good day and no angry farmers ,,,
Yes in fact you can see 3 drowns on the above footage ,,, one pops up at 6.21 and hovers alongside ,, then one can be seen behind the exhaust trail ... then another pops up on the far side at 6.36 ,,, they get some great shots ,,,,
WOW nice capture Alan - Now either she was coasting, or the diesel was pushing her over the viaduct. Always feel a bit conned when I see this....although I know it has to be. I've a photo of her coming through Lincoln, around 2000ish. Definitely the case as she was pushed almost into the station, but did pass us under her own steam.
great shot it was suppose to come through spalding but got changed which was a disappointment. Such an amazing train hopefully will get to see it soon .
Hi there Michel ,,, Thanks for stopping by ,,, Yes lovely loco and great to see any of them on the main line where the driver can open the regulator ,,,, and unleash all that power,,,, sometime on the preserved lines they seem like caged animals want to run free,,,, Didn't know what route she was taking to be honest ,,, but I did here Spalding mentioned by someone else down the hedge line,,,, but couldn't here what was been said,,,, and you have just reminded me of something I have been going to do for a long time ,,,, My uncle was a signal man at one of the Spalding boxes ,,, and a couple of times we came down from Yorkshire to visit when the tulip parade was on ,,,, but obviously just been a toddler don't remember which box he was at,,,, I think his house was next to the box ,,, but I bet its all changed now and I suppose most of them have been automated ,,, but I must find out and revisit ,,,, Hope you catch her the next time around if they print any time table that is ,,,, All the best ,,, Alan
+Alan Plumb yes unfortunately nearly all the signal boxes have gone which is a shame the only crossing that has a house is Hawthorn bank crossing which is just down the road from me. But like you say it is nice to see the old steam trains opening up on the main line.
I thought most would have gone ,,,, But Hawthorn Bank ?????? am I just imagining it ?????? or does that sound familiar ,,, now you have got me wondering ,,, I must email my cousin ,,, cheers Michael
Smashing video Alan. You captured it wonderfully. It appeared there were UAVs about near the viaduct, especially at the start across. I found them quite annoying and wanted to swat them. It looked a bit of a circus with all the cars and people hanging around. Rob
Hi there Rob ,,, thanks for dropping by (I must pop over and catch up,,, not getting notifications lately ) Yes not a bad capture considering my tripod is as stable as the English Labour Party,,,, Ya I counted 3 drowns pop up,,, I thought they were birds at first,,,, but they could become a nuisance ,,,, on some of the other drown footage you can see the cars parked all along the narrow lanes ,,, with other traffic unable to pass ,,, but I was happy with the viewing point and field that I found,,, and everyone was very patient in getting out so a good day ,,,, all in all ,,, cheers ,,,, Alan
Well seen it all now ...Cherry picker to go train spotting ..thought I was bad enough LOL ...Good capture Alan she looked great coming over the viaduct certainly still pulling in the crowds ...Dave
Hello Alan just come across your lovely vid here ... brings back great memories from both the 4th June and 25th June shown here as i see you caught me and a friend stood in front of you half way through :)) Best wishes ... Steve
Hi there Jim ,,, Thanks,,, ya in the footage above you can see 3 drowns one pops up at 6.21 and hovers alongside ,, then one can be seen behind the exhaust trail ... then another pops up on the far side at 6.36 ,,, they get some great shots ,,,, Cheers and thanks for stopping by ......... Alan
Hi Robert ,,, Ya its a great location ,,, plenty of room for everyone to spread out and not get in each others way ,,, and interesting chatting to other enthusiasts ,,, And then even a brew while the field empties ,,, my kind of Saturday morning ,,,
Hi there Ian ,,,, thanks for stopping by ,,,how are you keeping well I hope,,, yes smashing location ,,, I could do with a better stiffer tripod than the one I have but at least we got her this time ,,, (on her maiden run I went out to Marholm good stretch pretty open ,,, all set up charged my batter the day before,,, took a couple of Virgin trains just to practice the long pan,,,, I was 30 minutes early ,,, she was 50 minutes late ,,, lovely crisp morning ,,, but the wind got up and I got colder and colder,,, finally along she came turned the camera on and straight away flash flash flash replace battery pack replace battery pack and it shut down fumbled for my other battery,,, dropped it ,,, Kicked the tripod picking it up,,, got it in,,,, and she was on her way,,,, so you win some loose some ,,, but a good interesting morning ,,,,, cheers and regards ,,,, Alan
Excellent video Alan,it's a thumbs up from me! That was my old section when I was the P/way ganger for the line from Glendon jct to Manton jct so I have walked over that wonderful viaduct a few times, lovely to see the Scotsman back......Regards Chris
Wow I didn't know you was an actual railway worker,,, another one of them vital jobs that goes unnoticed and unappreciated. Iv seen Rob Masterman post video of locos with lasers on the front,,, presumably checking track gauge but I can't see that they could pick up loose fish plates ,,,,so I presume plate layers must still walk the line ,,,,but yes a brilliant structure ,,,, thanks for dropping by ,,,, cheers Alan
OOOOOoo yes of course ,,, sorry another senior moment,,,, and I have seen rob Mastermans video of a train carrying the rails ,,, huge long lengths the length of the train ,,, and I couldn't believe how they all bent for the train to go around curves ,,,, ( i think these senior moments are joining up ,,,, that sounds like modern day rail) cheers ,,,, buddy
What an amazing amount of Train Spotters in this Field Alan....Really cracking video from a superb location.....Such is the lure of Flying Scotsman...+ Thanks for the mention too !! Best wishes....Steve.-:)
Hi there Steve ,,, only too happy to give you a mention ,,, Ya she certainly draws in the crowds ,,, and that was just one viewing point,,,, from some of the drown videos you can get an even better idea how many had turned out,,, interest morning chatting and exchanging anecdotes with the other enthusiasts ,,, cheers and good hunting ,,, regards Alan
Very nice footage Alan - well captured. I thought at first those were dandelion seeds blowing across the field / lens, then realised they were drones. Nice work sir! Cheers, Brian
Ya I didn't twig ,,, straight away ,,, I was thinking Seagulls ,,, ?????Hovering Seagulls????? No surely not ,,, RRrrrr Drowns ,,, not sur how I feel about them they look like great fun and capture some brilliant footage but they could become a nuisance .
I can see a day when there could be swarms of them at events like this. I like the footage they can capture, but they could also be intrusive for anyone else trying to film. I was also amazed to see the crowded scissor-lift as well. Thanks again Alan for your excellent film :)
Ya my thoughts exactly ,,, I think there will comm a day that they are licenced ,,, and the scissor lift ??? what about that I couldn't quite believe either ,,,,
Alan great stuff, keep the vids coming please. I have a Matin Finney kit to build an A3 in 7mm. mine will be Tracery with double chimney, kraut smoke deflectors and the GN coal rail tender. I got the plates for it already. also got a Finney A4 which I may well do as Mallard or 60007 and also a V2. loved the V2s, sounded so good
yes it was a good morning and made a nice little video,,, My word your going to be busy ,,, plenty to keep you going through winter,,,, obviously been collecting things up for a while ,,,,
Well done Alan. A super video that not only captured a wonderful event at a great location but additionally captured the amazing scenes showing the magical popularity of this locomotive. Best of luck with your rendering problems. I seem to find technology changes more and more of a challenge as time goes on. Can't be anything to do with age can it? ;-)
Hi there Geoff thanks for dropping by and the lovely comments ,,, Its a difficult one sometimes a clip taken on the main line is over so quick ,,, yet you obviously want it to be interesting ,,, it did cross my mind that I was stretching out too far ,,, but then anyone from further afield are perhaps interested in the location as well,,, like the chap to one side had come from the other side of Leicster the chap the other side from Milton Keynes ,,, so I thought showing the parking lets others know what should be available ,,,, if they should travel,,, and then to have the high level train spotters ,,, thats got to be a bit unusual and worth a mention ,,,, as for Technology ,,, ???? and age ,,,, lets say they are not the best of partners... Time just flies by had what you have come accustom to is so soon out of date,,, the next thing will be updating to this window 10 ,,,, Dave said don't bother with it ,,, all his picture and videos were all over the place,,,, then I heard if you don't take the free update in a few months your old operating system will become incompatible with all sorts of stuff... and you will have then pay for the new widows 10... ,,, it obviously has spy ware imbeded in it to flag up certain things ,,, like ,,,, Kim and john like eels,,,, big red flag,,,, or them high level train spotters were really Radical ,,,,,,, RADICAL ,,,,, monitor this man ,,,, he typed radical ,,, thats why microsoft want everyone on it ,,,,, So I don't know what to do on that one either,,, mind ,,,,, tomorrow I will be older ,,,, lets hope im wiser as well,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, (some hopes) cheers Geoff take care ,,,, Regards Alan
Hi Alan, wow so much to say! Great video, really well presented and love the background before during and after, also I note you are producing very professional looking videos now with a good intro as well. For your new video programme here is a simple top tip for you. Open it, go to settings, then preferences and make sure to put a tick in (show message when inserting first video clip in timeline) this will be under project. Say ok, exit and restart, then just make sure the first thing you place on the timeline is the video you are going to use, the box will ask if you want to use the same settings as the video clip, simply say yes to that. Now your project will be made exactly right for you. When you go to share chose MP4 and select from the drop down list, the same frame rate as your video clip was made in, then the size of 1920X1080p and a bit rate of 15,000kbps (for TH-cam) and audio bit rate of 192kbps. There are ways to customise these setting to make it even better for TH-cam but that will get you started. Finally I 100% reccomend this forum for advice forum.corel.com/EN/viewforum.php?f=1&sid=e29206b84a0fe487eefa50645ecad53d Great stuff mate, if I can help just let me know. Mike
Wow brilliant Mike,,, thats a step by step in black and white that just about makes sense ,,, well at least i recognize all the elements ,,,, and I bet there are loads of questions on the forum that are just what I would be asking,,, I can learn a lot just from reading the posts ,,,, (Never thought of looking for a forum) wasted a dozen hours watching videos and its like the 50th where I find out not just to remove the s.d card,,,, Great stuff thanks ,,,, and yes trying to make them a with a bit of interest,,,, thanks for the compliment much appreciated ,,,,, regards Alan
Cheers Alan, I have learned tons on that forum, you can search for me on there lol MikesMovies so you will see I am still learning the program. Ref to SD cards, just think of them as a hard drive with no moving parts :) I always copy all my video clips to a folder on the computer, with sub folders by date or subject, then when adding them to Corel I just navigate to the required folder/s, keeps it simple and much more reliable than trying to import from the camera etc. Cheers Alan.
Ya I think thats where im going wrong,,, I imported files but then lost them ... took ages to find,,, like you say one needs to be very methodical ,,, Busy doing a big asbestos survey next few days but I will have to get on there and start looking at the posts,,,, many thanks ,,, Alan
Hi George ,,, you can see 3 drowns in this footage ,,, but im not sure I will be able to afford one any time soon ,,, but as you say a smashing location ,,,, and very interesting talking with the other enthusiasts ,,, exchanging anecdotes
Brilliant video❤❤❤
I can't go out anymore, housebound - so I rely on dedicated people like yourself to keep me happy watching. THANK YOU.

Nice shot of it coming over the viaduct . Cheers.......Peter .

Hi there Laurie ,,,, Ya amazing turn out and there where several other viewing points obviously ,,, but a good morning ,,, Cheers
Someone captured this train going over a viaduct filmed with a drone. That makes for an interesting view too.
Yes in fact you can see 3 drowns on the above footage ,,, one pops up at 6.21 and hovers alongside ,, then one can be seen behind the exhaust trail ... then another pops up on the far side at 6.36 ,,, they get some great shots ,,,,
Hmm, and I suppose they could also spoil them if you wanted it to look period. Still..
Ya im not sure if im for or against
WOW nice capture Alan - Now either she was coasting, or the diesel was pushing her over the viaduct. Always feel a bit conned when I see this....although I know it has to be.

Hello Alan just come across your lovely vid here ... brings back great memories from both the 4th June and 25th June shown here as i see you caught me and a friend stood in front of you half way through :))

wow superb. .that must be one of the longest viaducts in the uk...
I wonder if anyone had a drone to film it...

The old steam engine going over the Viaduct looks awesome. Something about a train running over an old Viaduct.Scott
Yes indeed,,, and how about the high level train spotters / rail fans ,,,, ten out of ten for effort
Hi Alan, can I use an excerpt from this video, with appropriate citation, to add to my own video of the Midland railway?
Awesome Alan great spot cheers Robert

Yes Harry Potter feeling, great video! A pleasure for me to see one of my favorite trains on such a spectacular bridge. Cheers Andy
Many thanks ,,,, its a very nice location ,,,, cheers
Lovely footage of the old girl at a spectacular location. Well captured.

Not so many joints now on the track most lines now are welded (Continuous welded rail) CWR,this type of track can run for many miles without a joint.
