As a first year teacher, this is so helpful. I also have ninth grade and I am always looking for the most effective way to reach and teach my students. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Love how you've explained annotation AND that it's focused. So helpful for the students. I get so tired of hearing teachers complain that students don't know how to do something. I respond by asking the teacher, "well, teach them to do it the way you need them to!"
I love your authentic example of teaching in this video! I teach 3rd grade but I think I could see myself teaching middle or high school too. The classroom management with older students is what makes me unsure about it.
This is off topic, but as someone who grew up before the internet I find it fascinating to see the child in this video and to think that when she grows up she will be able to see how she was at that age and to see how her mother interacted with her, with all the nuance and context. I only have some photos of my childhood and have gained some context through conversations with my parents, but so much gets lost over time. Anyway, I enjoyed the video, I came here because I'm thinking of possibly teaching and wandered off thinking about something besides the point of the video, haha. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience and I smile at the thought of how your daughter will look back and see how she was loved and of the warmth that will bring to her heart.
Thanks so much for filming you teaching! I find it super helpful to watch other teachers teaching English. Just something I noticed: the background music was a bit loud at points (such as in the beginning and when you were teaching) so I found it a bit difficult to hear you!
Love these videos! So refreshing to actually see teaching happening for us! I've been teaching for 12 years but new to English. These are reallu useful!! thank you. xx
Thank you for doing these types of videos. It’s wonderful to see others’ teaching style. You have a very engaging style. Your students are lucky. More please. 😀
My sister accuses me of "mom turrets" as well. Love the mix of home and work. It is also nice you saw something wasn't working and you stepped back to teach it differently. Very cool.
This is exciting! I tried to teach annotating to 6th graders for the Computer Class I'm student-teaching in. It was a "because you did not follow instructions/decided not to listen" assignment, but I really want to get back to it because it was something New for them, helps then build language/vocabulary, and is a way to show that literacy is important in learning about computers. I just need them to collectively pay attention long enough to get through a good 7-8 minutes of it (their attention spans are terrible).
I love this idea for teaching annotating! I teach 9th grade as well, and I don't think my freshman know how to annotate yet. I'm excited to try teaching it this way after spring break! Eloise is adorable!!
I’ve been really behind on your videos lately, but I’m going to get caught up very very soon! I loved this video💖Also you should create a podcast(obviously if you have the time for it) about crazy classroom/student stories. I think it would be really funny lol
Hey! This is normal parenting and working and talking and both this is just a new normal for adults that don't teach or have kids and that is OKAY!!! Your doing GREAT!!
Extremely useful video on annotations. The annotation without purpose is just putting the lines or underlines on everything that seems important to the student-well explained by you. I just wanted to know as to what you wrote on the margins and upload more videos on annotation so that it becomes so easy for other teachers to teach without any trouble. Thank you1
wow this is amazing. I am kinda nervous heading into this field and my major is English teacher grades 7-12. just wanna know if you have beginning tips/what should I prepare to teach?
Your daughter is the cutest thing 😂😂 my niece also tries so hard to feed me whatever she sees near and I'm constantly reinforcing the same lines "No, its okay. I'm full, thank you though. Oh you want me to eat that too? I'm still full, no you dont have to get that, thank you, do you want to eat it?" Kids are so hilarious to me 😂 she also has a habit of neglecting her food if I eat anything she offers and then it turns into her meal going into my stomach LOL they love trying to take care of others, dont they? 😂 Though this video is old, Thank you so much for incorporating actual teaching into it, I'm on the prowl for videos that have teaching clips 😊💞
Just found your channel and I commend and recommend your comments on annotating. If i could most respectfully make a suggestion to improve your video, the bouncy music should be background atmosphere and shouldn't compete with what you are saying.
I understand how to identify figurative language/ literary devices, but what do you write in the margins? I want to write in my books, but I don’t know what to write.
Hello! I'm in College for Child Development/ECE and looking forward to teaching in the Pre-K and Kindergarten setting. Have you already transitioned over? If not whats it like being there? 💗
Yes you talk too fast in lecture, let students keep up with your thoughts please, you are catering only to fast thinkers instead of the majority of students. At least with video we can replay. Posting the full lecture would have been nice.
Your asking a student if they actually want to speak out loud is amazing.
😂😂😂 I would have anxiety
She should demand they do it, use her authority
Yes great job.

Are you actively blogging/vlogging your journey? I'd love to follow you!
@@jonaigrant3130 As of right now I am not vlogging my journey, but I have thought about starting a youtube channel. I may do so in the future.

Please do more of these! It is helpful for me to see examples of real-time teaching.
her: do you WANT to share? that’s okay
me: *doesn’t raise my hand*
my teacher: *calls on me to speak*
Same
Hated those teachers. Leave me alone I hate your class
I am going into year 5 of teaching and I love the way you taught annotations and marking the text. I will, definitely, use this in the upcoming year.

This is unrelated but the cardigan looks soo cozy 😍
I have never heard annotations explained so well!! I enjoyed that!
Love that you included actual teaching footage! Thanks! (New subscriber here. :)

Wow, your class is so quiet. My middle school kids can be loud.
You seem like the best english teacher ever
I am first year teacher during this pandemic. This channel and Brave New Teacher literally saved me this year.
You seem like an amazing teacher!!

I’m just amazed that 2 teachers can afford to live and raise a family in San Diego.

Mrs. Mary ,
I like your smile and your hair .
Keep it up !

The music extends past your intro for the first minute of the vlog and is super loud!
That Girl With The Coffee Oops! Thanks for letting me know!
This video is great, only wish the music wasn’t so loud. It’s very distracting. Excellent content. Thank you for sharing.
Hi hiw did you learn about language techniques like ever?
Even though I teach pre k, I love your videos. Your videos are an encouragement, since I am looking forward to teach secondary esl / English.

We need a new school system to compete with and replace the Dept. of Education...do you know any?
Dang!! I want to be your student!
I wish i had you for my english class
This is a really good video. 💗
Btw u look gorgeous!
lovely video but you need to soften the music when you are talking ....
❤️
Turns out that I don’t hate school. I hate my bullies, called teachers. I would get A++ if my teachers are as kind as you.
Love this video I wish it didn’t have the music though, it’s distracting
Gosh the music my gosh!
A lesson on Harry Potter! That'scool!!!
❤️ -B
Your eyes looks like katty perry (singer)
can't hear you very well over the "background" music
Can you please be my teacher...
I hate my english teacher, he is terrible and gave me 62 on my essay 🤗
Ooiiiôpp
