    It’s currently -1°F with a -23°F windchill and can’t get my car to start. I had to look up the battery replacement video because the cover wasn’t coming off the box that held the battery so your video was extremely helpful in confirming that it does come off but might be a little stubborn when it’s super cold like it is today! The cover that goes over the positive terminal broke on the flex point due to the cold, but I plastic welded it in place with a small piece of steel mesh on the outside so it works again. Repairs like this always seem to happen in the worst weather, but having your video to show me that I just needed to be a little more diligent with the cover really helped! I’ve enjoyed watching your other videos too, so keep posting! My recent issue with my 2018 Odyssey is now the rear left taillight (OLED) does not turn on as well as the daytime running light when the lights are in the “on” position, but the daytime running light comes on during the day? I removed the OLED tail light and swapped sides with the right side to see if the left side was burned out, but it illuminated plugged into the right side, but the right side light didn’t work on the left side. Nobody has a post on this issue and I can’t find any information online if this vehicle has a LKM that I could simply replace, frustrating! I only have 39k on this vehicle and this is happening, I never had an issue like this with my BMWs but I guess with electronics these days it just does. Anyway, thanks again for your video as it helped me get my Odyssey back on the road again! 😃

Couple of comments: Taking the black clip of the rod was very difficult for me and wasn't about to remove the red/positive housing unit. Even with it off, I managed to get the battery housing off and the battey out. Overall, very helpful and really appreciate your efforts!

    Good instruction - I would have added a warning to not reverse the order of disconnection/connection of the terminals.
    (Using uninsulated tools, starting with disconnecting the non-grounded terminal [on any modern car the positive, but on some oldies may be the negative!] as it then can short out to any grounded piece of metal around.
    Starting with disconnecting the grounded (negative) terminal the only point you can short out to is the positive terminal , and you could keep the cover on that until the negative has been disconnected...
    And when connecting, start with the non-grounded (positive) terminal, and put the cover on that before proceeding with the negative terminal.
    Another warning: whenerever working on high current systems, which includes car batteries, remove any metal rings, bracelets, watches, etc.
    Should you happen to create a short circuit, you DO NOT want anything you're wearing to be part of the circuit... (as it easily can get metal melting hot)

      I’m a bit confused by these instructions. Disconnect red then black. And reconnect black then red?

    • @michaeltempsch5282
      @michaeltempsch5282 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@justinchua6167 For a modern car with negative ground that's the wrong way around.
      If you do it like that and your tool on the positive terminal accidentally connects to any metal piece around, you have a short circuit.
      OTOH if the negative terminal already has been disconnected/hasn't yet been reconnected, then there is no circuit.
      If your tool on the negative terminal connects to any grounded piece of metal, that's non-issue, since the negative terminal IS already grounded. Only danger point is the positive terminal - so keep the cover on that whenever possible.
      So start disconnecting with the black (ground), and start reconnecting with the red (positive), and for max safety keep the cover on the positive terminal whenever possible.

    I have a 2018 Odyssey and had same problem. It started after about 2 years. I brought my car back to Honda dealer and I was told the battery went bad. They replace the battery for free under warranty. Then in less than a year, same problem started to occur. I brought the car back to dealer. They counldn't find any problem. They told me they couldn't simulate the problem. They just changed the battery again and ask me to buy a 7 years battery warranty for $70 something. Then again in about 6 month, same problem started to happen. I had to buy a battery jumper and put it in the trunk just in case. It was so frustrating and embrassing. I brought my car back to dealer again. I told them stop blame the battery. This time It took them 7 weeks to fix the problem. First they told me it was the driver side lock drains battery and billed me $500 something, but it didn't fix it. Then they told me it was the ECU, that didn't solve the problem too, but my repair bill just kept going up. I remembered one time they told me it was a module. I asked them what module? They said it just a module, but it just cost me another $500. At the end, I just fed up. I had to sue Honda and the dealer for sell me a LEMON car and I won. I am still driving the car, they finally fixed it but it was a painful journey for me.

    You may need an addendum to your video. I followed your instructions and replaced my battery with a new AGM battery. When I tried to start the vehicle, the Immobilizer was engaged. There was a red blinking dot on the dash and the van would only start for about 2 seconds before the Immobilizer shut it down. I called two Honda dealerships for help and the best they could say was to have it towed in. That’s where I am right now - no idea what the fix will be.

    • @BrianBridson

      @@garyallman3039 After hundreds in diagnosis charges, and claiming that it couldn’t possibly have happened, the dealership determined that the module that handles the keyless remote was blown. As I write, the part has been on back order from Honda for over 2 months!!! To their credit, the dealership was able to hack the system and trick it into believing a new module had been installed. They were able to re-pair ONE fob with the system while I wait for the new part. So I can drive it, with the understanding that at any moment the hack could fail.

    I see articles online saying that AGM batteries need special support from the alternator and regulator to ensure proper charging and longevity of the battery. My 2019 Odyssey comes with a regular flooded battery - do you know if it's ECU smart enough to detect an AGM battery and re-adjust, or some re-programming is needed or it's not going to support AGM because it's does not come with AGM battery from the factory?

    • @dial2fast
      @dial2fast  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Honda Odyssey doesn't have any special programming for changing to a different battery. But if your Odyssey has regular flooded battery, then stick with the flooded battery. The AGM cost more and the only reason for the AGM because of the auto idle stop feature where the battery is constantly charging and draining constantly. If you don't have the auto idle stop feature, there is no need for putting in an AGM battery.

    • @dial2fast
      @dial2fast  ปีที่แล้ว

      The car battery can be tested to see if it's healthy. Assuming the new battery is healthy, the HondaVac problem might be something unrelated. Even though you might think the two things are close in timeframe, but that could just be a coincidence. Since you are using the vacuum with engine on, the power is coming from the alternator, and not the battery. So test the battery and the alternator. Most automotive stores is able to test those things for you for free.

      The AGM batteries are more expensive, costco still has prices just over 100 bucks for the flooded lead acid batteries

    Base model doesn’t need AGM battery right? AGM battery only for idle stop system.

    Do you need to reset anything in the computer, in the past you need to tell the computer you put a new AGM battery in so the computer would charge it properly?

      For this vehicle, you don't need to reset the car's computer for the new battery.

    Wow, these OEM Honda Odyssey batteries literally only last about 3 to 4 years??? I would expect them to last longer.

    The battery placement on this generation of Odyssey is worse.... imagine if someone has to jump start their battery if they are stranded on side of the road. 😞
