The darkin staff/ballista/spear/fan/harp all have actual darkin forms that are playable in LoR! I’d recommend taking a look at them since it seems unlikely that they’ll come back up any time soon The cards can either be played as the weapons for cheap, or as the full darkin for a lot more

This was a 3 part future story With the darkin Rhaast, Varus, and Aatrox and other characters like Rize and Master Li The main story with Xolaani It starts off with Kayn hearing about a new darkin weapon but it protect by master li and his new students. So he brings the league of assassins to go and try take the weapon. Then it story splits either with Kayne overtaking Rhaast and becoming the Shadow Assassin or Rhaast taking over Kayne. It ends with one of li student being the last survivor and take hold on the darkin wepaon. Xolaani takes over the student body and verse Rhaast. The next story going over Varus cards. Its him going around gathering an army to verse Xolaani and her followers at Targon. The third is what u saw with Aatrox. Rize and Kayle cards finished the what if future story.
The card game is cannon. Riot uses it as a gateway to get more Lore/Story out. Because it's be too slow if we have to wait for new champs to get more info, since we get 2 new champs a year MAX. Much more difficult to make champions, because you have to think of their kit and how they fit in the game. Plus Riot hate putting out similar champs back to back, be it class or race. As to the card game where every couple months or so you get multiple new characters , because they come out as card bundles.
Not quite, LoR explores a lot of "what if" scenarios, as well as having a lot of jokes that shouldnt be taken too seriously. but other than that it is mostly cannonical, as long as you can piece through what is a "what if" scenario and what actually happened. Afaik we dont really know what happened at that big battle that Aatrox has with Xolaani, as many cards contradict each other as well as text, so its left to interpretation
Basically most things are canon, but some things are 'what if' scenarios. It's a bit annoyingly confusing. Ex. I'm pretty sure it's not canon that Xolaani actually ate Mihira, Aspect of Justice. But she has a card for that. Kayn would die if you ever picked Darkin form Kayn, so that's not canon. Etc.
on the contrary i think that the only thing we can be certain of is that Xolaani DID assimilate Mihira, otherwise Ryze even considering the idea of nuking the shit out of everyone with the world runes wouldnt make any sense, but yeah its all over the place and the ending is left up to interpretation afaik, as many cards and text contradict each other so we dont really know what went on in that massive battle

@@FallenGrannynah thid is all what if scenarios, first we have kayn scenario, where if rhaast won kayn over, he claims xolaani and none of this happens, then we have kayn beating rhaast, where june picks up xolaani and xolaani takes over and starts gathering followers, while yi and kayn run away after fighting each other. Then we have 3 outcomes of the story following rhaast's defeat, where ryze nukes them and seals them away, we have then xolaani becoming the aspects bane and getting all darkins under her control, and we have aatrox finally killing xolaani and finding his peace. All are what if scenarios, and none will ever happen since kayn and rhaast struggle can never end with one overtaking the other.
@@bigbywolf5031 way too much thought and effort was put into this for them to throw it away, they are 100% without a shadow of a doubt using most of the events as lore at some point, if you think that riot would waste thousands of dollars to hire writers to write this stuff for shits and giggles you dont know how companies operate. while it isnt cannon right this moment due to the many different paths and what ifs, it will become cannon at some point in the future, as that entire arc is far too good to throw away, as well as Xolaani being a far too good of a potential villain to just ignore Edit: Kayn and Rhaast taking over each other fully is inconsequential to the story, it is only a thing to give them an excuse to make both Kayn and Rhaast as separate cards for fluff, the entire story can easily happen without even touching their duo dynamic, it can just be a simple failed raid on Yis compound where Xolaani gets released as a results through Yun
So here is the lore dump that will give more context and answer some of your question, but i think Necrit has a great video on this and ALL the background lore of the cards and art - which is much better to watch and wont have any potential mistakes, but still here is the basics: This is all basically the prologue to the story: Zeds Shadow cultists were attacking Master Yis followers in their temple in Ionia - which also housed the Xolaanis bloodletters as an artifact for safekeeping. During the fighting Yis students were losing, so Yis prodige Yun decided to sacrifice herself and pick up the Darkin bloodletters in hopes of acquiring enough power in the short term to save her friends, her plan instantly failed because as soon as she touched them Xolaani immediately dominated Yun and took over (which is why Xolaani has the weird triple eye helmet piece - its Yuns, and also why she is a feminine humanoid in appearance). Just to clear something up, Xolaanis goal is to basically dominate everyone through their blood, because she thinks that this will create a perfect world with no war or suffering (because everyone will just be mindcontrolled) - so thats her entire ideology and purpose and what she attempts to achieve. Anyways, from this point on Xolaani starts making her way towards seemingly Targon and Shurima border (i could be wrong), Aatrox, Kayle, Ryze and a few others learn of this and also prepare to stop her there. Aatrox calls out to his fellow Darkin awakening them - most of which answer his call and rush to help him in the fight. But some Darkin get controlled by Xolaani before they can - Ibaaros and Taarosh being the two that i can remember off the top of my head. And basically the 3 way fight happens between Aatrox and his Darkin, Xolaani and her Darkin and the random assortment of aspects and people. Now im pretty sure that we dont know what happens, because in LoR they give a lot of "what if" scenarios, and some contradict each other, so im not sure we know how that got concluded for certain. One thing that seems to be canonically true, is that Mihira gets killed/assimilated by Xolaani, but besides this im pretty sure its just speculation on the actual conclusion. I am personally most confused on this last part as there are a lot of cards and text that contradict each other so really my guess is as good as yours.
Oh, and the true Darkin form art (not their weapon art) is amazing and each weapon has it, i recommend looking at them in your own time or smth, Riot did a great job with them (and the card text for each of their true forms basically explains on whos side that Darkin is fighting - Xolaani or Aatrox)

This in LoR is what if xolaani broke free and rhaast lost to kayn, aatrox would feel her from continents away, abd start gathering his old crew(he was general of all darkins) and this fight would have 3 outcomes, ryze beating xolaani and aatrox and sealing them away, xolaani devouring mihira and taking control of all the darkins and mortals, and aatrox killing xolaani and ryze and destorying the world. None of them are yet "cannon" but they are all potential outcomes. I prefer to go with aatrox path, that is explained in his level up card " the battle gathered pace, the coward finally found courage to face him,and as the two ancient enemies warred against each other, the land began to wither and bend beneath thier furry. An army of celestials descended upon them trying to save their dying land... - but it was to late. Aatrox would finally have his day, he would find his peace"
If you love Aatrox you should check another chad - Mordekaiser, dude died 3 times and just doesn't give a damn as he keeps building his own world of the dead and preapres to take down the world of the living. Just another CHAD
