After the Disco slump took place in the at the tail-end of the 70's into the early 80's, the boys were busy writing new songs to try and reinvent themselves (yet again) . . . Very little held them back though, as they always seemed able to conjure up new styles for themselves which they felt would work . . . These were the same days when they came up with a "Love" song for Babra Streisand's vocal skills, Woman In Love - Diana Ross was then looking for a song for her to make a comeback - and they gave her the "Pop" Chain Reaction . . . Also the same decade as Islands In The Stream appeared for Kenny & Dolly, too . . . While in the 90's it was Immortality they wrote especially for Celine to sing . . . (Of course, there were many, many, more songs they wrote for not only other singers, but also to perform them themselves later as well - which is why they have such a huge catalogue of music . . .) - And, many groups or singers have also wished to make covers of some of their better known songs also . . .
Maurice came up the 'stomps' ( the thumping sound) while messing around in his garage on his drum machine.....he was a musical genius....he could coax music out of any instrument he laid his hands on....
Nr. 1 hit all over the earth, except US, because of the crime of backlash. Not to imagine, but things went that way. It's such a great banger. Lateron, they came up with 'One', and that song was to find in US Top Ten.
It’s one of my favorites from all of my favorites, which are almost all the songs The Bee Gees wrote. Lately I have been going through some their lesser known songs and they’re are all so beautiful. It’s a shame that the radio stations in the US refused to play their music for a few years. Complete albums were totally ignored and they have such great songs. I have noticed in other reaction sites were they’re so dismissive of The Bee Gees music and they’ll just say they sing too high and they’re a Disco band, not bothering to really listen to them. The Bee Gees are great no matter if it’s in their falsetto voices or their chest voices. The Bee Gees didn’t like to be called a disco band because their music was of different genres. In the 70’s it was primarily funk and r&b’s.
That is a disappoint that they were put into such a small box to some radio stations. Their non-disco era music is amazing! But their funk music is amazing too!
@@nelerhabarber5602 - The US stupidly missed out on so many good songs because they dismissed the Bee Gees. I can't name any other band that the US blacklisted the way they did the Bee Gees. Such a shame. They should have had a dozen more #1 hits and broken many more records!!!!

After being the most successful group of the 70s with 9 #1 songs, they hit a dry spell in the 80s. This song was a Bee Gees comeback. Music always changes. Artists either change with the times or get left behind. This is why the Bee Gees had such a long, great, career. They kept reinventing themselves by creating a completely different sound updating their music to fit the current times.
such a great catchy song. It was a favourite of Princess Diana. ❤ The "stomps" as they're known, Mo created in his Miami garage, banging garbage can lids and stuff together. Then the people at the record company hated them and wanted them off. They refused to take them out and it was a hit. 😄
Hi girls - I think this was the best time of the three brothers. They had many #1 hits, wrote many definitive songs for other artists AND were obviously on top of their game health-wise. Man, they look damn good too - Barry with long hair, tightly combed back and pigtailed, Rabin with slightly blond hair and horny French cap on and Maurice - proper and as always joyful, fun...
"For whom the bell tolls" 1993 Robin and Barry share the lead. "Holiday" 1967 Robin sings lead. "Run to me" 1972 love Robins chorus. "Got to get a message to you" 1968. Robin and Barry sing lead. "Massachusetts" 1968 Robin sings lead. These are some of my favorite songs that feature Robin.
There is a live video of this from a concert in London I believe that has Phil Collins on drums. It's awesome! The "stomping"sound drum beat you mentioned supposedly came up with by Maurice in the garage of all places lol. When they first went into the studio, all the producers and big wigs wanted it taken out, but the brothers said no, it's staying. After the song was released everybody wanted a copy of it or how it was done, incuding Phil Collins. Thank you for doing this one as well, awesome song..... just like all the rest! I think they were allergic to writing bad songs.
This was terrific music from the brilliant Bee Gees during a 'quiet spell' for them ..... one of their best releases in my eyes, the beat, the lyrics, just truly outstanding.
You both continue to charm with your chemistry and humor and Bee Gees love!! Thanks so much. This song won #2 in the contest "The UK's Favorite 20 Bee Gees Songs" The song got to No. 1 in the UK and much of Europe, but didn't do well in the U.S. (#75 Top 100)) because the trio was still battling to get radio play after the silly and phobic Disco backlash. America wasn't ready to welcome them back after their 9 songs saturated the airwaves in the latter half of the '70s. The Bee Gees needed a few more years to get the airplay and promo they deserved. "You Win Again" was awarded the 1987 British Academy's Ivor Novello award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically. That's saying a lot! You liked the drum stomps? Brother Maurice conceived the drum machine sounds in his garage. Phil Collins asked him for a copy of the stomps.😆 Rock on. Ladies!!
Love hearing that Maurice created the stomps himself! It's definitely part of the song that makes it unique! Mom was telling me about the "disco sucks" era.... I just couldn't believe it, with Bee Gees having such great music. So happy the love for them is returning.
This song came out in 1987 and it completely fell under my radar. I was only listening to FM radio and I doubt this would have gotten much play. It's obviously post disco material. Barry is singing in his "normal" range without so much falsetto. It did appear that Robin may have hit some high notes. I need to hear it a few more times before I put it on my play list.
This is one of my absolute favorites from bee gees. Love the beat. It is up there with to love somebody a d love you inside out, words I started a joke.... classics
The Bee Gees were very good at adapting to the times of music. If you like a sort of rock style for the Bee Gees, ESP by the Bee Gees is the most rock like song I can think of and it has a very different style than anything you heard from the Bee Gees.
Love it!! Fun fact: There are NO drums in the recorded version!! Mo created the "stomps" sound on the new equipment in his garage home studio!! The producers (I think that was their title) didn't want the stomps and/or wanted them turned down, but The Brothers said no!! Then they had other musicians asking for "the stomps", lol!! And of course, it is part of what makes the song! Thank you Mo!! Love Robin's "Oh Girl" and love his long hair and tam, and love Barry's ponytail, which he did for a movie he was making :-) They played this song for Nelson Mandela concert with 2 full sets of drums and Phil Collins was on one!! Love the harmonies!! Edit: Just read that Mo said there is just 1 drum and the rest are just sounds he created on his new studio equipment. :-)
The best Bee Gees song ever! It was their last No.1 hit and in many countries. Written by Barry and Maurice , it started from a demo of a drum machine by Maurice and they built it from there. The record company tried to get the noisy intro beat taken off but the band refused and knew it was a signature sound. I don’t know why but this song manages to uplift but also make me cry every time. It such a powerful melody. Love the Bee Gees, they were so creative. You are right about the lyrics they are so good. Each one has special sounds they are all tremendously talented. Great reaction ladies
Love this one. Thank you for doing this one. Agree so much with you that their lyrics are as good as their voices. I heard this for the first time in a carpark in Norway, and it took my immediately back to Australia with the Bee Gees. There is something about their sound that us unmistakably Bee Gees. Love those ad libs from Robin, too. This is still one of my favourites. Can I suggest Blue Island, the MTV live performance? It is magical.
Please react to the Bee Gees Song You Should Be Dancing. The live version has Andy Gibb joining his brothers so all Four brothers singing together is amazing.
Imagine how happy I am to sign off from work today and immediately see your reaction to this great tune. They were extraordinary (well pretty much about everything) at evolving with the times. Wow, I love this. Barry's voice is perfect for this lead, and the ad libs from Robin are "knock you off your feet" soul touching. Of course the harmony is outstanding, and you can't help but move to Mo's stomps.
@@generationgapreacts This is from their 1987 album ESP. It just didn't do as well in the US as in the UK and Europe. There are many great tracks on this album. If you would like to hear something with a gospel type sound, try "Live or Die (Hold Me Like a Child)." You won't hear better harmonies (even from the brothers themselves). It still gives me goosebumps.
Love your reactions ladies and appreciate your taking me on a trip back in time and to hear your comments on these wonderful songs. I am a young 76 years old so I've seen and heard music through all it's phases. Watching the two of you appreciate these oldies even brings tears to my eyes at times, nostalgia is a powerful and wonderful thing. My two favourite groups of all time are the Bee Gees and Abba and they have both both produced a wonderful catalogue of great music. If you want to hear a not often played gem from the Brothers Gibb then take a listen to 'The Only Love' you will be totally bowled over. There is a version where they sing live and it goes beyond incredible. A true masterpiece. Keep up the good work ladies and Cheers,

You came up in my recommended, I’ve been waiting for someone to react to this for awhile so thanks for a great reaction girls. I’ve always loved the Bee Gees and loved them even more after they released this great song.
Such a great song. This is the era where I really started to notice the Bee Gees. Not that I didn't think their songs were good back in the 70's, but they were just background when I was younger. I didn't really go down the Bee Gees rabbit hole though until I started watching reactions to their songs during the pandemic. So I totally get it when you point out their hotness and the way you just cannot pigeonhole this group's music. :D
Fun fact. Maurice created the stomping sound by recording the sound of hitting various trash cans in his garage. When you see this song performed live, there is no actual drums or percussion instruments, just Maurice with either a keyboard, keytar or synthesiser. Phil Collins later approached Maurice in an airport looking to purchase a copy of “the stomps” for a song that he was working on. Maurice gave them to him for free as a thank you for being a session drummer for the Bee Gees since 1971. When asked about this in an interview shortly before his death he replied “I don’t have many genuine mates, Phil is one”.
I love this song!! I discovered it a couple of years ago. I am an 80's music girl but I do not remember this song back then. Blame that on the American DJ's...they were still having Disco flashbacks I guess. It went to #1 in a lot of other countries except the US...it only got to like #85 or something. Remember when they encouraged people to burn their Bee Gees records in the late 70's? Anyway, I'm glad you guys played this and loved it. I know I am one who suggested it too. Next Bee Gees request -- "Love So Right" -- Thanks Ladies!
Barry looks so GOOOOOD with the ponytail!!!! Man in the middle Closer than close First of May Please don’t turn out the lights by their children The Gibb Collective. Shadow dancing by Andy I want to be your everything by Andy
Hello, Yes it is good, the beegees needed to change their music in the 80's, the disco period was a litle bit over and they got into new music if they wanted to be the great beegees again and surprising they did with the albums E.S.P. and One they found a new way to get interesting for a lots of new fans and this fans starting to listen to the old songs and so the fans group kept growing wonderful reaction how they could surprising you loved it. Greetings from the netherlands
It's called syncopation....the off-beat or missed beat sound when their words come between the crashes of the beat at times. Another term for the same effect is 'contrapuntal', or counterpoint.
@@generationgapreacts - "Bodyguard" is a terrific song, also from later in their career when the US basically shut them out of the radio there. Dumb!! They should have had a dozen more hits like "Fallen Angel", "One". Their songs in the 80's and 90's and even until Mo died in 2003, were better than anything else on the radio. Still is!!!!
Another great reaction! Since you really seemed to enjoy their different sound on this song I would recommend checking out When He’s Gone from their 1991 album High Civilization. It’s super catchy, and has Robin on lead vocals. ✌🏼😊
Hi, just came across your channel whilst browsing some reaction videos - mother & daughter, great combination! If I may suggest an artist for you to react to - Gerry Rafferty - a beautiful voice and such a talented singer, songwriter & musician. He has so many great songs. I would suggest 'Night Owl' to start with most reactions seem to start with his massive hit 'Baker Street', so it'd be something different! Other songs include - Easy to Talk, Don't Speak of My Heart, Right Down The Line, Light of Love, Welcome to Hollywood, Whatevers Written Your Heart, Winters Come......just a few of his wonderful songs, many of which carry his own real life experiences.......have a listen, you'll definitely thank me for it...! Enjoy!
I would love for you to do a reaction to "Be Who You Are" "Living Eyes" "She Keeps on Coming" "Jumbo" "Close Another Door" and "Dogs" they are great songs.....by the Bee Gees....there's just too many to suggest.
So many people are surprised by the Bee Gees songs of the 1980s. Unfortunately, the Bee Gees "disco backlash" was still going on... well into the 1980s, and a lot of radio station program directors would not touch their music. What they didn't know was they were already playing their music... it was just being sung by other artists (Kenny Rogers, Diana Ross, Dionne Warwick, etc.). So this great tune, "You Win Again" hardly got any airplay, and only reached a peak of #75 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1987. We all know this song deserved to reach much higher than #75. Anyway... previously, I requested you two to react to two songs by the brothers... "Nights on Broadway" (performed live on The Midnight Special) in 1975, and "This Is Where I Came In" (their final single & video) from 2001. After I posted that request, I realized there were two more singles, that NOBODY EVER REACTS TO, that I wanted to request a reaction to. Mom may or may not remember these two... they are both from the 80s, and in both of the videos, the brothers actually get to play acting roles. The first is "He's A Liar" from 1981. This was the first single from the "Living Eyes" album. The style of the music was WAY DIFFERENT from the songs on their previous "Spirits Having Flown" album. It may have been too much of a departure from their normal style because a lot of radio stations would not play the song... or perhaps it was because of the "disco backlash" that was into full swing. Either way, the song did hit the Top 40, but did not chart much higher. Maurice's acting abilities shine in this video!!!!! The second song is "The Woman In You" from 1983. It is a single taken from the soundtrack of the "Staying Alive" movie (which was a sequel to "Saturday Night Fever"). A lot of people don't remember this song, the soundtrack album, or even the movie. The song was definitely in the style of 1980s dance music, and again, the brothers had a chance to play acting roles in the video. Both of these videos seem to have poor resolution as the master copies of them have apparently disappeared over the years, but I would still love to see you two react to them and react to the great acting roles the brothers did in both videos.
Nights on broadway coming Thursday ☺️ we’d love to listen to the other songs mentioned! I haven’t heard either of them so they will be put on the list and made soon!

Keep up the good work ladies and Cheers,
ALWAY`S GOOD TUNES
yes! thanks so much for giving this one a go, it’s one of my favourites of their hits. definitely listen to One, Ordinary Lives, or the emotional Andy tribute Wish You Were Here for even more 80s bee gees goodness! cant wait to see more from you guys, love it!
Yes more 80s bee gees!
@@generationgapreacts Ohhh.. you should definitely have a listen to 'Wish You Were Here' 😢
You came up in my recommended, I’ve been waiting for someone to react to this for awhile so thanks for a great reaction girls. I’ve always loved the Bee Gees and loved them even more after they released this great song.
Thank you for watching ☺️
What can I say my favorite team first time I listen to them was in 1966 they were to preform
I don’t know how anyone at anytime could not love The Bee Gees! This one went under the radar for us too. So glad it was suggested!
For Whom The Bell Tolls is my favorite.
Barry looks so GOOOOOD with the ponytail!!!!
Man in the middle
Closer than close
First of May
Please don’t turn out the lights by their children The Gibb Collective.
Shadow dancing by Andy
I want to be your everything by Andy
I recommend the song One by the Bee Gees. It’s from late 80’s
Yay! Great one ladies! Thanks!
Another good reaction! Thank you!
Preciso mostrar minha colecao dos bee gess pra minha sogra! Ja vi que ela ama.
Songs One,words, are two more songs of the Bee Gees that you will love
The Bee Gees were on the UK tv show “ Top of the pops” and I have to say that Barry was looking so hot in that performance!
Another great Aussie Band 😉
Maurice called them "Stomps"
Hello, Yes it is good, the beegees needed to change their music in the 80's, the disco period was a litle bit over and they got into new music if they wanted to be the great beegees again and surprising they did with the albums E.S.P. and One they found a new way to get interesting for a lots of new fans and this fans starting to listen to the old songs and so the fans group kept growing wonderful reaction how they could surprising you loved it.
Greetings from the netherlands
You should’ve watched the Countdown version. Barry’s extra hot stuff in it, and it focuses almost exclusively on him.
love the gated plate "80s" touch intro.
It would be fun to see you react to Jive Talkin, yet another style there funky music.
Oh yes Jive Talkin is a great one
It's called syncopation....the off-beat or missed beat sound when their words come between the crashes of the beat at times. Another term for the same effect is 'contrapuntal', or counterpoint.
Can you please react to
Bodyguard by The Bee gees
Please
Yes!
Maurice came up with the Stomps! They were always innovative and diverse.
He was so creative!
You have to listen to Blue Island it's fabulous based on the after life!
Another great reaction! Since you really seemed to enjoy their different sound on this song I would recommend checking out When He’s Gone from their 1991 album High Civilization. It’s super catchy, and has Robin on lead vocals. ✌🏼😊
love that one!
@@Zlata1313 - I love that one too!
You should listen to Bodyguard by the Bee Gees. Robin kills in this song
Try "I'll Kiss Your Memory", which Barry wrote and all the brothers sung.
You should react to the 1997 Las Vegas one night only show! It’s very good
Hi, just came across your channel whilst browsing some reaction videos - mother & daughter, great combination! Enjoy!
you should watch the "live" version...with Phil Collins on the drums
I haven’t heard either of them so they will be put on the list and made soon!
love both of those! and the videos are fun!
This wasn't a big hit for thr group in the US but was their fifth and final UK # 1 hit.
I've been watching your reviews for only a couple of days now but a appropriate song for the pleasure that you are bringing is by The Doobie brothers "Listen to the music"
Thank you for the suggestion Agilan!
Robin sounds great
Bobby, I agree with you 100%. Robin always sounds terrific!!
@@susanhunter7124 - I "third" that!
💪👏👏
Gotta get a message to you.
It does sound different but once Robin comes in it's obviously the Bee Gees. Nobody sounds like Robin. It was huge in the UK.
Don't know if you have done One yet
