Great rundown! I haven't read the book, but your summary hits home. As a Dm I certainly spend more time coming up with out-of-combat threats than tactical nuance.
I disagree, I don’t need my hand held when it comes to making RP encounters for monsters or making them interesting narratively… I don’t need permission, None of you need permission. Why can’t you build the interesting information yourself for the goblins?
Again this book allows you to make your own lore about the dragons in the book…. Is it a lack of creativity? There is enough about each dragon entry to draw your own conclusions as to what they should be doing… is it a time issue. Your issue w book seems to be a nonissue.
Aggressive Critique is needed for things like this. Thanks again.
That was interesting! I was very intrigued at your critique that monsters should have more than just combat skills.

Appreciate you going into the details of why the role/theme works, and the constructive criticism later on where the book lacks.
