How to fix a broken Line 6 DL4 looper / delay pedal - really quick and easy - no soldering required

- You see a lot of Line 6 DL4 looper / delay pedals that just won't turn on at all, I've repaired a lot of them now and it's always been the same really simple solution - removing and reseating the EPROM chip. It only takes a couple of minutes to open the pedal up, carefully ease the chip out of its socket and then reseat it and it's worked for me every single time.
EDIT: Apparently this works for the FL4 pedal too.

I can't believe it. I bought a new power supply for my FM-4 (same line as the LINE 6 DM-4, and other similar cased pedals) and it still didn't work. saw this video and honestly thought it wouldn't work, but was worth a shot, and... it worked. it worked perfectly. the pedal is now back to being fully functional. thank you so much! simply reseating that chip did it!
Really pleased to hear it works for that too! They probably used the same type of chip and socket?
@@marcushamblett its the exact same, it just says Fm4 instead of dm4
My line 6 has been DL4 has been out of commission for about 15 years but this made it come back to life!
I really didn’t think that this would work, but this just saved mine, that’s been buried in a cupboard for at least 5 years.. thank you so much for this video!
I was about to give up on my DL4 but after seeing this video and resetting the chip, it came on! THANK YOU SO MUCH
Unbelievable. I've tried everything with this unit and this 30-second fix is the thing that brought it back to life. THANK YOU!
Didn't have a screwdriver small enough, so I punched the chip and it worked! Thanks for this video!
OMG!!!! Thank you so so much!! My DL4 has been non-functional for years now and that simple trick worked like a charm!!
marcus! bless you and your amazing self! i recently bought one of these in 2021, been a dream pedal to own one someday, so i bought it in march '21. last night it died and wouldnt turn on and i was devastated. then i started googling and seeing that EVERYONE had DL4s that would not power on and was even more upset that i had waited so many years to buy a pedal that appeared to be a lemon. but your fix, NO JOKE, worked! i just took the stupid EPROM out and tested it with both 1/4" jacks and the line 6 PSU and BAM! LEDs are working! i am so happy! thank YOU!!!!
It worked for me too! Thank you for showing all of us how to fix the pedal.
Duuuuuuuude! I cannot thank you enough for sharing this information. I have been pulling my hair out for years trying to get my fucking DL4 to work. Literally two minutes and it works again. Holy hell! THANK YOU!!!
OMG, gig is tomorrow and zero power to my DL4. I tried everything and was about to try to buy another (I don't play anywhere without it). I removed the chip and put it back in and it fired right up. Thanks so much!!!!!!!!
Faaaaaark thank you so much! Like 5 years since I put this away in the cupboard. Thank you so much!!! It works now!!
it totally worked for me! I have an older one I replaced because it died few years back. Im going to try it with that one as well! Thank you!
It worked on my older pedal as well!!!!! Now I have two. Thanks again!
You deserve an award my friend, god bless ya!!!
This makes me so happy :) Mine was making some terrible distortion after I did a volume mod, but this fixed it right up. Thank you!!
God Bless you! It worked! I tried everything and nothing would work, thank you so much!
This saved my DL4 as well. THANK YOU!
Thank you for this! Saved me a bunch of trouble. You rule!

OMG!!! it actually works thanks for saving me €230.
This totally worked for me!!!! Thank you so much!!!
recently? where did you find the chip?
@@mpark3586 . It’s right in the middle when you open it. Cant miss it. The video will show you.
Worked! Thank you for sharing!
Huh it worked. I've got a DL4 that would not power up. I'm looking at it for a friend. I opened it up and checked a few voltages but there was nothing conclusive. I went online for a schematic, saw this video link and checked it out. Amazing. I pulled the EPROM chip out, stuck it back in and BOOM! everything works like normal. Thanks. How long does it work before it needs this again I wonder? Extra useful cool video dude.
where did you find the chip?
A proper saint you are
Thank you! I Will try!
Incredible! It worked!!! Thanks a lot!
Yessssssssssss, thank you soooo much!
It worked, thank you !
Thx - fixed mine perfectly 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Dude… Thank You So Much 💯
Great video Marcus . I have a FM4 (The purple one ) that won't come on , any ideas to get it back working as i really miss it 😢 i will try the the way you showed in your video and let you know , thank you Very much
This video is a linesaver (no typo).
life saver
Thank You 😊
Worked! Thanks
Thank you SO MUCH🙏!!!!
!!! MY HERO!
It worked here…mine was dead for 3 years. Resurrection!
Yoooo thank you!!!!
This is awesome that you could fix this easily. Mine just received and I found even the power is ON, but I don’t hear the the guitar sound with the delay. When switch it off, I can get the guitar tone normally. Do you know how to fix this problem? Thanks~!!!!
Do you have a solution to the brief audio drop when switching between presets?
Do you know of any replacement chips to improve the audio quality of the pedal
Good morning, a greeting from Italy, I am looking for the user manual of the "LINE6 dl4" because it does not works and I think it can be the power supply but without the circuit scheme I can not do anything, can you help me? THANKS A LOT

My line 6 DL-4 is not work.
There is a signal, but when the device is active, there is a friend noise and the effects do not work. Can you help with the solution?
Thanks for this super useful video, did you never tried to clean the knobs? Mine is quite hart to use, I guess there is dirty inside the knobs, can I just take them out like in an amplifier or I risk to break it?
should be fine if you know what you're doing!
Bro, the looper on mine just doesn’t work anymore - like all the LEDs are working but when I try to loop and click record it doesn’t capture the sound. The mix is high too.
My DL4 turns on. But is very noisy, sounds like white noise. Any suggestions?!
Thalia Hall socks👍
Hahah, great venue, great socks! well spotted!
@@marcushamblett come for the looper pedal advice, stay for the socks
well that worked
My board is different, it must be earlier, the chip is not visible on the backside of the board.
Any idea, whether a fm4 would also have this problem with it ?
Many thanks
I've never tried it but if you see NEScRETRO's comment above, apparently the same trick worked for them! Good luck!
@@marcushamblett thst js ideal. What I needed to read, hopefully It will
Mine only turns on once then when i try ti switch effect it turns off. Any idea ? Heeeelp please!
I did that and it didn’t work • you know what else it could be?
Sometimes a reset will do the trick as well. depends on what the issue is.
So I stumbled upon this pedal at a friends house. He had no use for it, didn't know where it came from, said I could have it. Long story short I took it home, cleaned it and plugged in. to my surprise it powered on, the lights worked properly, but unfortunately it only got sound from the guitar while in bypass mode when the lights were off.. hence no effects/looping or use of the pedal functionalities. I watched 2 videos and before trying the soldering option, I decided to try this easier option first. Well.. I popped out the chip and put it back in and now it won't even power on, the lights no longer work... i'm left frustrated and puzzled.. (not your fault) I just don't understand what could have went wrong. Any ideas?
Sorry to hear that. Did you definitely put the chip back in the right way round? And are you powering the pedal correctly?
@@marcushamblett the pedals lights were turning on, working properly, the tempo setting lights working. I just couldn't get any sound out of it. so I took out the chip and put it back, and now the lights don't even turn on anymore. I had the proper tool altho didn't come out as quick and easy as you were able to. im pretty sure I put it back in properly, I felt the heat of the chip. but im no professional at this.
@@marcushamblett I put the chip in the right direction yes.
maybe the chip damaged some how coming in and out?
@@PalisadeNights i'd try carefully removing it again, cleaning the socket and contacts with isopropyl alcohol and reseating it again, making extra sure it's the right way round (there's a dot or something showing the orientation)
Didn't work for mine, dang it.
Trying this now- mine literally stopped working the very first day I got to fiddle around with it, so dissapointing
Edit: She's still busted :(
