    If there’s one thing I’ve noticed from these ads, it’s that we here in Britain really love beer and car safety. Somehow both at the same time.

    The thing you need to know about the OXO adverts is they ran for decades with the same actors playing the same family.

    • @uK8cvPAq
      @uK8cvPAq 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Didn't they do the same with the BT adverts for a while?

    • @rantsopinions4u615
      @rantsopinions4u615 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That version of the OXO family ran for about 10 years between the late 1980's to the late 1990's (by which time the marketing agency worked out that the Idea of a large british family all sitting down to dinner at a table at the same time was horrible out of date).
      However the original OXO couple (and later on family) ran for a little under 20 years from the early/mid 1960's through to the late 1970's.

    • @rantsopinions4u615
      @rantsopinions4u615 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@uK8cvPAq Yeah, they had the BT family ads starring Kris Marshall of My Family, as the step dad. There series of ads ran for about 5 years and was then dropped in favour of the short lived BT Student Flat series of adverts.

    the 'catchy as shit' jingle for the Vauxhall car ad was the strings intro to Madonnas 'papa don't preach'.

    • @morphman86
      @morphman86 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Using some of the same notes, both are played on a violin, but Madonna's intro is in a different tempo, has more notes and is accompanied at every beat by a contrabass. Vauxhall's jingle also goes up a semioctave at the end to give a resolution to the chord, where Madonna's melody goes down a semioctave for the next bar's reset.
      These would be considered different enough to be their own separate works.

    ISA is a bit more than not paying tax. You actually get a government grant each year for your ISA.
    They'll double what you've put in that year, up to a certain amount.
    The drawback? You have to pay a quarter of all the money on the account if you want to withdraw it before you're 67 years old.

    05:19 In the 80s and early 90s, in the UK and Ireland, the Cadbury's Caramel Bunny might have been the most sexualised bunny... Then she turned up.
    06:50 I knew this straight away, I was in high school when this first aired in Northern Ireland. As soon as I saw it I said "Hell No! You're gonna hate this!"
    09:00 Ferrero Rocher, one of the most parodied ads of all in the UK. Look out for it in an episode of Father Ted if you haven't seen it already, in the episode with the holy stone. They're alright, usually sold in huge amounts at Xmas.
    11:21 Hands up who else thought the bunnies were gonna get flattened?
    23:26 Shadow of the Tomb Raider saw Lucozade once again displaying Lara Croft on the bottles for the first time in years, looking suitably badass. They read Larazade and as well as the usual flavour, orange and pink lemonade flavour, they now come in - wait for it - Croft Apple flavour. Why did it take until now to come up with that one?
    Ah, the last 'regular' episode of what brought most of us to you. Specials after this, maybe.

      Robert McCann when McLaren could still win races (I shouldn’t mock though, I’m a Williams fan).

    DOE, I had to watch all them commercials where kids die or get hit by cars all the damn time. They always showed them right before the Simpsons started, at least they did here in Northern Ireland. My granny would always have to leave the room or cover her eyes because they're so gruesome lol

      Yeah the DOE safety ads where Northern Ireland only, and far more graphic than the mainland UK safety adverts which were made by the COI. However the rest of the UK did get to see a number of the most hard-hitting DOE ads on Tarrant on TV back in the late 1990's & early 2000's.

    The Vodafone 60 for 3 plan (it was an addon for a couple of payg plans from what I remember) was possible the best payg offer ever.
    It was 5p per minute to landlines (still used a lot more than now at the time) or other Vodafone customers, and 15p per minute to other operators. This meant you could talk for an hour for 15p to anyone you knew on the same provider/landline or 45p for any other provider - in the early 00s this was by a long way the best value and still competitive today - beats most payg plans now I think.
    Sure with the packs you can buy now it is better value, but they are a bit of a scam in my opinion only lasting 30 days and I prefer to buy a phone myself and just use credit that lasts "indefinitely". Currently on 1p mobile (1p per minute for all calls, 1p per text, 1p per megabyte data on the EE network).
