  • If Sweden had an awesome climate, it would be like Italy being more efficient, too good to be true! Haha! I just got back from my week long vacation in the 'North of Europe' and it was super different... from anything I've ever seen! This vlog is a little long because I had a lot to say... and show! Enjoy!

    We speak English well because we really embrace British and American culture. We use subtitles instead of dubbing all the international TV-shows, we listen to English speaking music (and almost a majority of Swedish artists sing in English I would say). So it's likely that you hear English whenever you put on the TV or radio. And Swedes generally use the internet a lot, and here English is the main language ofc. The Swedish society just kind of expects everyone to speak English and so people do.

    • @bloomoggi
      @bloomoggi 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      come on though, the 2 languages are so similar too, that why, Im English and I learnt how to speak Swedish conversations in 1 summer

      Sara Nordström wouldnt say we embrace Americans and British culture just because of us not using subtitles.

      American "culture"? Does that mean Native Americans? Or like everything borrowed ! meaning Everything! British or English ---hahahahah The Anglos, Saxons, and the Norms... Also all borrowed. Speaking of Northern Europe aside from Sami people... hahaha Some German efficiency too

      According to www.quora.com/Who-inhabited-Scandinavia-before-the-Viking-age:
      The people inhabiting Scandinavia before the Viking Age (8th to 11th century) spoke the Proto-Norse language, a dialect of the Indo-European Proto-Germanic language, which would eventually transform into Old Norse. (whoaaa! There were people before the Viking Age, and the Viking age was short lived... hahahaha!)

    This was so interesting to listen on. I live in Sweden and just thinking like "what? Don't they have this and this in America?" This was so funny and you forgot to do something in Sweden... Eat the Swedish chocolate from marabou. It's the best chocolate in the world, I promise. And 10 degrees is not so cold because in the winter it can be like -25 degrees and that is cold here. Good video and if you come back, try the chocolate!

    • @user-so5yg1ly4z
      @user-so5yg1ly4z 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes! You really have too! :)

    •  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      that's not cold. In mother russia were i live, it gets much cooler (-60°C) And marabou is not real chocolate, it only has like 20% cacao and rest is additional sugar and fat.

    I´m from Sweden and let met just begin to say Thank You! This was very refreshing to watch. To hear what people outside of Sweden thinks of it. You made me feel a bit proud of my country. And if there is one things Swedes lack that Americans don´t it´s pride in their country ;)
    I´ve been to Italy twice and I love it. Want to move there when my kids have grown up. Tried so hard to learn Italian but I can´t crack the code... even though I studied french for four years. I know it´s not the same but their principles are closer to each other than Swedish and Italian.
    Lastly, you really SHOULD come here in the summertime. It´s so much better :)

    This video made me so happy! I'm swedish and I live in Stockholm, but right now I'm in America as an exchange student for the year. I often try to explain the way we live in Sweden and why Sweden is different from what most americans I've met think its like. It really warms my heart to here you speak so nicely about my country and it seems like you have a pretty good understaning of basic cultural traits in Sweden already. Love your videos as well! :)

    This was a great insight video into your experience of Sweden and seeing the sights of Stockholm. My first time there was in 1991 and I totally loved my experience there. It's been 25 years too long. After seeing your video, I am making sure I will be take a holiday to Stockholm very soon. And this time I'll bring my partner with me.

    We don't really eat waffles as breakfast. So you did it wrong. Go for sandwiches, yogurt or oatmeal and then you've had a Swedish breakfast. Also it's only in Stockholm we have any norms of which side you walk on, and it's on the RIGHT side

    Yeah, if you're social awkvard and anxious Sweden is the perfect place for you. We're experts at avoiding each other in public :p No but honestly this was a super nice vlog to see, especially for a swede. I've recently been pretty concerned about this country, mostly because of the schools and how the new generations are raised. So it's really nice and interesting to hear something like this from someone abroad with another perspective with a more optimistic view.

    Awesome video, I liked it a lot. A lot of people forget key things but this, I think, will help people going to Sweden for sure. A few things though, I am not going to pick your video apart, I promise. It is not always windy in winter making it more bearable, although cold. You were also at the coast, that is a big thing as well. We used to have öre, 1 krona equals 100 öre. Since the currency is not what it used to be though, we've discontinued the use. It is bulle (bun), but that's short for kanelbulle (cinnamon bun).
    Thanks again!

    Yes, we walk to the left. The good thing about it is that since we drive to the right, we walk in a way that in the lane closest, you will have good sight over cars, so if they lose control you won't get run over from behind.

    I'm sorry but you're wrong about Swedens integration of immigrants, it's not easy for them to get jobs even after living in the country for 20 years! And they have the highest unemployment rates in the country although the government is trying to implement programs that increase their employability. But the difference between Sweden and Italy is that they have a very good welfare system. But unfortunately many get stuck in that system.

    • @lucianmacandrew1001

      IT mainly has to do with will. It is not hard to get a job in Sweden, for anyone, if you are competent.

    • @epfizerdoolittleajl2165
      @epfizerdoolittleajl2165 8 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      The reason their unemployment rate is so high is because they dont want to work. Not because they can't. Especially the women, u see in the middle east its embarrassing for a woman to work, especially the generations they come from, its changing abit now. For the most part in western Europe Muslim immigrant women dont work. They also dont integrate much, they didn't come to integrate or to offer anything, they came to take. Ps I'm not white before u call me a racist :-)

    • @blixten2928
      @blixten2928 8 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Perhaps a bit of a generalization? I teach at Södertörn högskola. 40% children of immigrants, the majority from the Middle East. 60% women. And believe me, they WORK. Because they want a JOB. Further, family businesses are run by men - but the women WORK. Believe me, they work HARD - but they are not on the pay-roll. So do look around before making generalizations based on religion and gender. So many other things play in!

    • @SPETSNAZZ87
      @SPETSNAZZ87 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      go to Malmö maybe and see how ''they'' do not work and ''muslim women'' do not work........ like 90% of small businesses there are run by immigrants and 60% of that 90% are run by middle eastern immigrants and you can see that by your eyes!
      Not to mention many of ''them'' have a high education level from ''their'' countries but due the language struggling, they don't work in places that fits them better than ''their'' current job.

    In Sweden we generally walk on the right, APART from in the Central Station by the metro. On the streets people generally keep to the right like the car traffic. Example on 5.20-5.25 in the video

      99% av tiden går vi på trottoarer och stigar i städerna. Då håller folk mestadels till höger. Går du ute på nån landsväg så håller du såklart till vänster - mot mötande trafik - pga att det är säkrare. Enkelt!

    It's so interesting to know what other people think of Sweden, because you never really stop and think about what you do or how things work in your own country.
    I've never known anyone who eats waffles for breakfast though, however, pancakes are more popular if your going that direction for breakfast, but it's not really that common either..waffles are almost always dessert. And you said 'bulle' pretty good, I understood you :)

    Yes, we walk on the left side in Sweden. It's safer because it means that cars on the nearest lane can be seen from the front when they come towards you (which give a opportunity for a reaction if they would accidently drive up on the pavement). Bicyclers have their own lane in the pavement between pedestrians pavement and cars lane.
