Took Nothingface with me in my walkman in 1991 and into the submarine for 14 months. The cold north sea and this amazing album created a deep respect to these young guys playing so tight & abstract like they where placed on earth from a place deep in the system.
Saw these guys at Backstreets in Rochester, NY with The Big F opening and some band called Soundgarden played the middle slot. August 16, 1990. I was 21.
Fuck me. Listening to this cassette on my Walkman everyday was an incredible companion to the blisters on the soles of my feet. Needless to say this album (cassette) has a pole position in my heart. RIP Piggy!!!!!
this is still one of my favorite albums of all time. as lifelong Voivod fans, my band tries to cover this and another song. tries.lol the most innovative and original metal band, to me. R.I.P. Piggy We love you.

This is like the least dissonant Voivod song I've heard. But you're still right. There's just the right balance between dissonance and consonance, leading to beauty.
After not playing this song on guitar for almost 20 years, I can't believe the riffs came back to me as if by reflex. As if embedded in my DNA or something.
I forgot how completely perfect this album is. Saw them on this tour, Faith No More and Soundgarden were the openers...wish I could see that show again. Phantasy in Lakewood (Cleveland) 1990 I think?
I saw that tour in Columbus after WRDL in Ashland had a couple of the tracks from this album in pretty heavy rotation during their metal segments. All three bands were pretty amazing- obviously- but very few albums I've heard since come close to this one. Masterpiece.
honestly, the first time i listened to this band, the music just stressed me out. i didn't know wtf was going on. i still don't. but listening to Voivod again, it's like they're Dream Theater and The Dillinger Escape Plan mixed together - but they're the grandfathers. that's how crazy dynamic this band is to my ears lol
Since you're a fan of both Dillinger Escape Plan and Voivod, what song would you recommend a voivod fan to introduce them to Dillinger? I've been meaning to get into them for a while, just never knew where to start. If you have the time to reply that is, thanks.
When i was young and this came up i have same feelings. My frend play all the time this vinyl and then i just fell in love in it. 30 years later this is one of important vinyls what i have heard.
wow i saw piggy rip comments....didn't know about that......i will say though what a bummer that they all succumbed to the pressure to write more accessible songs......this album was the perfect combination......i realize that maybe blacky was an important element in the band as well as i feel like i was in my old band......metal without bass is rockin and ok but metal with real bass and drivin it home just seals the deal....si o no?
swarming locusts limbs..................what a great line......and actually the lyrics and vocals are usually my most annoying part of this band...so it goes........as a guy who was in a band....today is the day.....the first one.....this was the album that changed my life......blacky was my bass hero
Missing Sequence is perhaps the most extraordinary Voivod song of all. A song born or dreams, that has inspired numinous dreams.

Great Story! I have been listening to them since first album. When this came out was hooked
The submarine??
Voivod is legend. This is still as fresh as the day I bought the cassette in 1990 at the mall in Florida
Those mall record store purchases/blind buys.... Miss the late 80s and early 90s. Cover art alone were behind so many albums I bought.
Love this kinda math-rock with actual melodies, hooks, with weird time signatures and clean vocals.

this album should be revered far and wide its incredible
it is.

Finding beauty... within the dissonance.
Daniel Barone I agree!!!

@Christopher Norris I vote for Korgull the Exterminator :)
This song still blows me away!

Larks' Tongues In Aspic (Part II)
Voivod has influence my guitar 🎸 playing I wrote a song called the treacherous fight
Wonder why this was blockes in America
probably the most underrated songwriting in thrash metal

Áááá. Ok
Stop on dime complexity.
I've seen you underneath Manilla Road songs quite often and here you are again under my other favourite band!
