    So from what I know of it, Digital Extremes, the creators of Warframe, saw their cover of "Sleeping in the Cold Below" and loved it, then asked to work together for a song in the 1999 update, that being this song. Warframe itself is something worth checking out if you haven't yet, gaming or just with the Prime Trailers or game cinematics don't matter too much to us players

    I'm a big gamer and I finally tried out Warframe because of this song! So I started playing Warframe because of Voiceplay xD I didn't think it would be my thing as I am usually not that big on shooters, but I am genuinely enjoying this game. There is more story than I expected and I use a bow and a sword for my gameplay. I would have missed this gem of a game if our guys hadn't done this and I am glad I checked it out! As for the choreography, in the BTS you can actually see Tony Wakim directing them on the dance moves. So it is safe to assume that Tony did the choreography :) They nailed it! Who knew they had these wonderful moves! Great reaction Dave ^^ Thanks!

    The makeup and the shrieking is a shoutout to the in-game enemy faction the Infestation, specifically the new sub-faction the Techrot. Because the game's boy band is connected to the Infestation/Techrot. Evil boyband.
    Also the songs reference a LOT of in-game events and lore in a wonderfully subtle way.

    These guys are a phenom but Layne is the GOAT in this one. If you compare his early stuff to what he’s doing now it’s staggering. This tune has been stuck in my head since it came out.

  • @janetdw

    I know that Eli, Cesar and Omar are big gamers. I don’t know if they play War Frame but I’m guessing yes because they knew of the song Sleeping in the Cold Below. I’m also going to guess that Tony had something to do with the choreography. He’s always had the moves.
    I looked up OnLyne Warframe 1999. There is quite a backstory to this game. I found the Warframe fandom page that talks about why they look the way they do and the significance of the band in the game. (and they kind of explained the pizza thing and how they ended up looking so different, but if you’re going to play the game that may be a spoiler).
    They dressed pretty closely to the way the characters are portrayed on that page and there’s a tagline under the picture of each of the characters and the results are surprisingly pretty accurate.
    Layne is portraying Hard Drive, the strong but sensitive jock (but J may not agree🥕😉). Geoff is portraying Zeke who is both selfless and stylish. Appropriately, the character that Cesar is portraying is Drillbit and is considered the heart of the group. Eli is Packet, the best tech whiz. Omar, as guest, got the best assignment: DJ ROM the maestro and musical genius. (so appropriate since his band is called Epic Party Band!). He was absolutely perfect for the part.
    I found it pretty funny considering their make up, especially Eli’s Klingon look, that when I used voice to text and said “war frame” it came up saying Warf frame.
    I don’t play video games. I do not have the hand coordination necessary and I’m too old to try and develop it at this point. But after Dragonborn/ Skyrim, I considered trying to learn.

    They are cosplaying as characters that will be introduced in a future update to 1999 where that boy band will be enemies part of the Nemesis system. Their costumes are loosely based on how the group will look due to the technology virus that turns flesh into metal known as the Techrot

I am not a gamer so I have no clue but I know they were contacted to do this after they posted their cover of "Sleeping In The Cold Below" and I know the guys like their gaming. It does not say specifically in the credits but I am assuming that Tony helped with the choreography (that is something Tony does well and he is listed as "direction" in the credits as he was in "Thriller") I like the modern boy band feel to this one.

  • @DrDestructo

    It'd be cool if they released this version as an unlockable for your in-game sound system in your Orbiter, like they did with the album version. For folks who don't play Warframe, you get a sound system called the Somachord for your in-game house that's also your main menu, where you can unlock the game's soundtrack as well as a bunch of the promotional music made for the game's trailers and make a playlist that kicks in whenever you come back from a mission.
    Also they hid a joke about game mechanics in the lyrics: "Now that you're invested, we're turnin' up the heat," where invested sounds like Infested, the enemy faction that's weak to Heat damage.

    Dave, story line is that VoicePlay liked the songs in Warframe, so they did their cover of "Sleeping in the cold below"....when Warframe creators saw it, they approached VoicePlay to do their 'thing' for their upcoming update....what you see is the result of Warframe's Sponsoring VoicePlay.......>^^

  • @XECIDE3

    The reason why they cosplayed as zombies is cause in Warframe there is a boy band called On-lyne and in the game the boy band became something called the infested. The infested all become part of something called the hive mind hence the line "Join us, embrace us, don't ever erase us". The infested On-lyne will also be coming into Warframe as boss fights later in 2025.

    • @xelenus2204
      @xelenus2204 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Small correction, the infested versions are clones of the actual members of on-lyne, not the actual members

    @SealFormulaMaster หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    In case you decide to check the game out, I'll be a little vague as to what's going on. The setting is Y2K, and the machines are coming alive to take over the world. When "Join us embrace us, don't ever erase us" drops, it's quite literal. The machines have taken over the boyband and want you to "Join them" and "Embrace them" like the band did, and you shouldn't "Erase them" (aka: Kill them) since that would defeat their world domination plans. As for the rest, don't keep reading as it's speculation/spoiler
    So, On-Lyne is going to be an actual enemy you can fight in Warframe in the future. Like VoicePlays makeup kinda hints to, On-Lyne has been completely consumed by the evils of Y2K/Techrot. We don't EXACTLY know how the song or Techrot takes the person over, the song could be a type of mind control, or like Zombies you need to be infected with the Techrot. Right now, it seems only technology has been corrupted, but once On-Lyne comes out we'll get to see our first Human victims, which will be really exciting.

    I don't think any of the guys had played Warframe before Geoff found Sleeping in the Cold Below last year and just liked the song. Eli is a gamer, so he may have picked it up since then. That first song was just a cover, not a sponsorship, but it inspired the Warframe team to reach out and hire them to do this one. I don't play, but it's my husband's favorite game, and he's always talking about how great the devs are. I think it's really evident that they just let Voiceplay do what they do, and the end product is just perfect.

    While Tony Wakim directed the guys on the choreography, it was not set up strictly (if you go by what was shown in the BTS). Much of the individual movements seem to be are on the guys. The exceptions are when you see them all doing the same moves at the same time and the moves during “Join Us. Embrace Us….”
    Tony was also the one to tell them to move forward for individual solo lines and for the others to switch sides of the stage at certain points. But he seemed to let them decide on their own moves as long as they depicted the Boy Band swagger. Not sure about that spin by Omar but considering the moves by all of them after it, I would say that part was probably Tony’s idea?

  • @DTA-Music
    @DTA-Music หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    I don't play the game, but from what I've been able to gather, the 1999 expansion is set in some sort of bizarre pocket reality where the guy running everything has laced the pizza with a techno-virus, and it's mutating this boy band (On-Lyne) into alien monstrosities.
    The game developers saw VoicePlay's cover of Sleeping in the Cold Below earlier this year and invited them to make this cover to promote the new expansion.
    I've seen a lot of people comment how close the guys look to the On-Lyne characters even without the costumes and makeup, especially Geoff, who is a dead ringer for the character of Zeke (or vice versa.)
    I'm not sure why they didn't credit him, but in the patron-access behind-the-scenes footage, former VoicePlay member and PattyCake Productions co-owner Tony Wakim was assisting them with the choreography.
