I got hooked on this game in 1981. At first found it difficult to move away from the ‘rays’ and got ‘blown up’ early but soon the talent was acquired. Within a year I was averaging around 13000/game. Just before this game disappeared from the video parlors I touched 20000 & above. My hands could anticipate so well that I was doing trick shooting. I loved this game! Memories...
I really miss this game. It brings back so many good childhood memories. I was very, very good at it,too. I could be on this game, almost an hour, per quarter.. I wish they had this in a home version.
The only way Nintendo is gonna get any of their arcade games back is if they get the copyright back from Ikegami Tsushiniki, who wrote the code for their arcade games.
126 scratch Well, the original arcade Donkey Kong just released on switch, and Sky Skipper will come next month, so hopefully that means this and their other old arcade games will eventually release on Switch, too.
Could have sworn I saw an enemy missile hit the players ship around the time of 9:33 Invincible hit cheat activated I guess. Anyway I loved this hard addictive game when it hit the arcades. The sounds of this game always attracted me to it.
Nintendo already had their unique game design during the 1970s. Recommend to look at and play their arcade game titled SHERIFF. There was nothing else like it during that era, not even these days.
+sickpuppy4711 it didnt cost me anything! we discovered that if you wiped your feet on the arcade's carpet then touched the coin slot with a key it would register credits on the console! yay
We used to play this game in a cafe all the time .on Saturday the man use to come there to empty the machine.the man always went upstairs with the coin box to count the money .while he was gone we kept putting money in coin slot using the same coin over and over .we roughly knew what time he would come down to put the coin box back .when he put it back one of us would lean across the screen to hide the credits we clocked up .most of the time we use to clock up 50 or 60 credits ..they was great days
@@garyscott4104 The interesting thing, in the early 80s I remember Galaga, Moon Cresta and Phoenix. Those were 3 amazing space games. But there were other great space games from the early 80s, that i never played or heard of. Space Firebird is one of them. There are other games in the early 80s, i'm learning about on TH-cam that look great. . Look up these 4 games on TH-cam. Speak & Rescue 1980 Arcade game, Space Cruiser 1981 Arcade game, Condor 1981 Arcade game. Pleiads Arcade game.
I remember playing this game. It was like a captureless version of "Galaga" (i.e., where you couldn't free a captured fighter of yours and merge with it to double your firepower), only without the bonus levels. On the other hand, I thought the large "star spangled" firebirds had a patriotic feel to them. I rather liked that.
I adored this arcade game, my favourite along with Phoenix. However, this video is clearly in some sort of cheat mode as the last life was hit numerous times by Space Firebirds and bullets
I played this as a kid and it's actually better than galaxian in the flesh,as it were-the gameplay is as good as galaxian but the game has more to it-though neither are a patch on arcade defender IMO

nintendo should put this and most of their other arcade games on the virtual console.

That's why they seem to only acknowledge the NES versions of their arcade games (the popular ones, that is.)

I recall seeing this back in the day at a local pizza place. I really liked it.
Great old game and remember it.only on table top machines. Very difficult.
great memories playing this back in the day
Just picked up an cocktail arcade cab of this game.
What a great game. It's what they based Donkey Kong 3 on!
which elements ?
I beelieve it.
Yeah, I can see it….the way the ships swarm down on you just like the bees in Donkey Kong 3.
Could have sworn I saw an enemy missile hit the players ship around the time of 9:33
Invincible hit cheat activated I guess. Anyway I loved this hard addictive game when it hit the arcades. The sounds of this game always attracted me to it.
This guy uses cheats for showcase purposes
Fascinating to see that you always have to start somewhere and that even Nintendo didn't have their unique design in the beginning.
Yes they did

There are elements of this game in Donkey Kong 3.
That I want Space Firebird for the next Arcade Archives only the Ninendo Switch
This looks like a cross between Galaga and Phoenix.
This was actually way better than both.

Pleiads Arcade game.
Magnificent Game 👏💯🎉!!!
I would play for a really long time on one quarter.
In the US this was distributed by Sega.
Thanks for uploading it.
Seeing elements of Galaxian, Galaga, Phoenix, and Moon Cresta, but with four-directional movement like Xevious.

Not
The first game Hip Tanaka worked on, I believe.
Look again.
Lol you are right. It is referenced by the Arcade Music in Earthbound.
Hip Tanaka also did Radar Scope, which also came out in 1980.
1980 skate city, a year before I saw galaga in Mnpls/StPl airport
This game looks good.
I adored this arcade game, my favourite along with Phoenix. However, this video is clearly in some sort of cheat mode as the last life was hit numerous times by Space Firebirds and bullets
Cheats were used to be able to showcase the game in full without a game over
Does this have an analogue sound chip... how does that work?
SEGA/Gremlin released this in the U.S., but Nintendo released this in Japan, is that about right?
I never played this game. I see it for sell locally for about $850
Game was superior to Galaxian and Galaga but older. Was rather rare in arcades.
blasterman789 Galaxian apparently came first in 1979, vs. 1980 for this.
@@thanksbetotap And Galaga came out in 1981.
It’s at GGA and playable!
Clearly an galactic clone, btw radar scope is better, but let's give this an chance.

I hate early 80s arcade game sound effects, It is constant trilling and arpeggios. It has also become a TV trope.
I get tired of these "Hey, try to hit these ships that move at angles you can't dodge" type of games.
Yeah. I honestly prefer the Space Invaders formula
This game looks like a ripoff from Galactica.
Thanks for uploading it.
