Machinarium is a puzzle point-and-click adventure game developed by Amanita Design. It was released on October 16, 2009 for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. PC and Mac demos were made available on September 30, 2009. It is also being scheduled for a future release for Wii's WiiWare.
The goal of Machinarium is to solve a series of puzzles and brain teasers. The puzzles are linked together by an overworld consisting of a traditional "point and click" adventure story. The overworld's most radical departure is that only objects within the player character's reach can be clicked on.
Machinarium is notable in that it contains no dialogue, neither spoken nor written. The game instead uses a system of animated thought bubbles. Easter egg back story scenes in the same format can only be revealed by idling in certain areas.

The game employs a two-tier hint system. Once per level, the player can receive a hint, which becomes increasingly vague as the game progresses. Machinarium also comes with a walkthrough, that can be accessed at any time by playing a minigame. As with dialogue, the walkthrough is not in written or spoken form, but instead a series of sketches describing the puzzle at hand and its solution. However, the walkthrough only reveals what must be done in that area, and not how that puzzle relates to the game chronology.
Machinarium opens with an overview of the eponymous city as a disposal flier launches from its highest tower. The player character, a robot called Josef (named after Josef ?apek, the creator of the word "robot" and brother to Karel ?apek)[8] is dumped on a scrapheap, where he re-assembles himself and sets off for the city. Entering the city, he discovers a plot by the Black Cap Brotherhood, his three thuggish antagonists, to blow up the city's tower. Unfortunately, he is himself discovered and locked up. After breaking out of prison, Josef aids the citizens of the city, as he discovers the mischief which the Brotherhood has been working. Shortly after flooding the bad guys' room (leaving them helpless), Josef locates his girlfriend, who has been locked up and forced to cook. Unable to free her, he works his way to the top of the tower where he finds the room where the story began. A huge-headed robot sits in the middle of the room, incapacitated and gibbering. Josef recalls how the three of them lived happily until the Black Cap Brotherhood zapped this friend and kidnapped the girl. When a garbage sucker arrived to dispose of the Black cap thug, it gets Josef instead. After this revelation, Josef restores his friend to sanity, dumps the Brotherhood down a drain, and frees his girlfriend. The two of them climb back to the tower, wave goodbye to their friend, and fly off into the sunset. In the final closing scene, their vehicle suffers a collision and falls, and they are seen being carried away separately by two fliers.

This is the best Amanita game... Every character has its personality, they never say anything but it's so amusing... It's not like one of those contemplative games, you really feel like you're inside the city, and helping the robot. Plus the story is so cute and simple.

I'd say botanicula is my favorite game ever, machinarium being the second. I love all amanita games though, they all have high ranking spots in my favorite games ever.

I had to format my computer and I lost all mt saves of this game. I was just 5 minutes from finish. I'm seeing the ending just now. Great game. Such a beautiful design.

I know right! I used to love playing this game on my windows xp. I have it on my phone right now and I'm stuck on 47:48 and I cant figure out the ball pattern. It's harder than it looks you know!

they are but once you play for the 100th time you get good at them all of the sudden. like riding a bicicle.
I found every adventure point and click game to be hard.I never have the patience to finish them by myself.
I didn't know this game, BUT I LITERALLY LOVE IT!!! The story, the sense of melancholy, the BEAUTIFUL BACKGROUND with the city, everything is just perfect!!!!

@@anltube35935 thanks. oh I can beat him - having got thoroughly addicted to a very good free Gomoku app on my phone. I meant I enjoy it so much that I just stay there playing 5 in a row instead of getting on with the game :)

The tile sliding puzzle

were easily the most frustrating parts of my experience.
But the music is a delight.
It certainly calmed my youthful adolescent temper.

I loved watching and listening to what this game is all about and a comprehensive play-through with no commentary was definitely the best way to do that so great job!

maann... i remember this game on our old boxy family computer. id play it all the time before i knew the internet existed and i always asked my family to help me puzzles. i played so much that i still memorize everything by heart a decade later. sooo many good memories

Because of downloading, this game didn't get as much money as it deserved at it's sad. The creator has done games since I was a kid in 2nd grade.
He made 2 free games on the internet that are weird, difficult but very beautiful and interesting then sold the 3rd game. A unique style indeed.

Outstanding game ! Atmosphere, surrealistic places, ambient music and crazy difficult puzzles. Really masterpiece. But if somebody finish game without help ... He's genius.

Major themes that I see in this game is the impermanence of material objects, and the permanence of relationships. Objects for quests don't stay in the character's inventory any longer than absolutely necessary. Meanwhile, the characters we encounter are *very* permanent, and form the foci of the major plot arcs of the story, as well as the only things remaining following a completed puzzle.
On an unrelated note, why in the world would a robot need to blink? Or have toilets, for that matter? Then again, perhaps I don't want to know.
I love how when Jospeh falls he doesn't brace for impact or anything. He just falls.

This game is, to me, a challenge to create an interface without ANY TEXT AT ALL. Sounds hard, but it's possible, since computers deal entirely in numbers, which technically isn't text.
The music is also absolutely gorgeous,! Love the album

Just watched it. My mistake, it wasn't a zap but you had to bounce with your head so the bird would copy that and break the rope he was on. That was a little far fetched imo.

Remember the little bird that you had to zap in order to get a key (or something)? Besides all the hard puzzles that was the one i got stuck for the most. Amzing game, normally i don't like point 'n click games but this game did it right on all fronts.

@@digitalbrain4012 I haven't played in 4 years, but if I remember correctly, the Android port has some game breaking glitches due to poor porting. Much of which you can learn about if you read the reviews on the Play Store by clicking "view all reviews" and then sort by 1 Start Reviews.
Also, in the PC version you can hover your mouse over things that you can touch and the cursor will change to indicate whether or not you can interact with something. Because Android does not work that way, it can be difficult to know whether you you can click on something or not. Unfortunately, I've found that touching or clicking on things doesn't always seem to work and you kinda have to try again. IDK it's just more cumbersome on Android.

Yeah, being an older game, I'm not sure if it's compatible with Windows 10. I'd definitely look up the recommendations before purchasing. It's a pretty good game BTW
Personally, I use a virtual machine to run my older games and applications on my Windows 10 or try compatibility settings and as a last resort, I play the game one an older computer with an older version of Windows running on it. I keep my old computers just for the purpose of running my old games and applications. Shame that it is sometimes required when running games that are 30-40 years old.

This has an interesting look, but would probably drive me crazy. How the heck you would ever figure out that stuff is beyond me.
