A Chick Experiment: Can a Broody Hen Raise a Mixed Brood?
1 day old whiting true blue chicks are introduced to a broody black copper marans hen. She already has some chicks that are 15 days old and some that are 8 days old.
These 1 day old chicks were slipped under during the night and this is the first moments of interaction.
There are 9 chicks total. I wasn’t sure if she would accept or harass the new chicks considering the age difference and 2 of the chicks are visually different than the other 7.

Yes it is! She unfortunately did not end up accepting the 2 black colored chicks into her group. They are fine and doing well, but are having to stay away from the hen. Birds of a feather…
