I had the week off, but due to COVID times, it was a staycation. I decided that I wanted to learn ID. I do know most of the other Adobe product line, but have never really touched ID. I watched the Beginners and this video. I followed along with the examples and project file downloads. I don't usually do that on tuts like this, but I wanted to be experiential. I watched on one laptop while I did things myself on another. I would like to say that this is totally worth all that I paid, but that would be a lie. I paid nothing at all, and I got tons of valuable training. This was so well done, and you did such a great job on this. It was a joy, and now I feel confident about working in ID. Thank you for this!
The thing I like the most about your tutorials is that you are kind and nice, and professional at the same time. I don't feel myself like a stupid student :) I learn a lot and don't feel any pressure. Thank you very much for your approach.
@ 1:25:53, "try to put it in the middle". There are page centering functions for vertical and horizontal in the toolbar at the top. Pretty valuable information totally glossed over.
wow.... a previous commenter said it best, "Finally an InDesign video that doesn't spend eight hours on absolute basics, but yet clearly explains intermediate and advanced strategies without skipping steps or assuming niche knowledge." Well done, subscribing asap and looking forward to the future!
Finally an InDesign video that doesn't spend eight hours on absolute basics, but yet clearly explains intermediate and advanced strategies without skipping steps or assuming niche knowledge. Liked the video very soon. Multiple times while watching attempted to do so again. Never wanted to multiple-Like? a vid more than this one. Great stuff! Still on it, but will check out the extended course.
I am an old-school typesetter (Quark express the InDesign for over 25 years) and would argue that points is still the way to go. If you use inches or millimeters, the paragraph leading and spacing will always have fractional numbers. I hate fractional numbers. The point system is much more efficient when creating precise, detailed grids. Very informative and fun video that taught an old dog some new tricks. Cheers, Erich Collar
Hey Erich, you're totally right about points. I guess I should be clearer in the video about the pros & cons. Glad you founds some tips in there brother. - Dan
I'm working with Indesign for 8 years or so now, so there was a lot in this video I already knew. but still there were a few handy things I never even heard of. You made my Indesign working experience a lot easier! Even if knew a lot already you kept me entertained to watch the whole thing big thumbs up for you!!
Blown away by your videos. I am going through this course after doing your beginner's course within the same week. How well you present this information has given me so much confidence as someone who has lacked confidence in ever learning these tools. I was able to find tools on my own because of the confidence your videos have given me, for example, not sure if you showed how to access the "stroke" window, but I was able to take a breath and realized "it's a window, must be in the window section." And boom there it is. Thank you!
I've been using just Photoshop for years now and recently a friend put Illustrator and InDesign on my PC. I've been doing your courses and i have to say that I'm really enjoying them. Just wanted to say thanks for that. Your videos are easy to follow and clear compared to most other videos on TH-cam in this area.
Very good video with lots of good information. You definitely know this program better than I do. Thank you. Two points I’d like to make. 1. If you’re designing for print, setting the bleeds to 0.125” does you no good if you don’t also design to the bleeds. All your “print” samples design to the edge of the page when placing photos or drawing backgrounds. You should turn on bleed guides and use those as a reference instead of the page edges to promote proper design for printing. 2. Regarding mis-registration of process colors on “big” 4-color offset presses - it’s not because they vibrate, they don’t. There are several factors, including blanket packing, blanket condition, overall condition of the press, operator’s skill, the paper’s stability (stretch, flare, etc.) I totally agree with you regarding using straight black for smaller type. Print shop owner and pre-press operator for 24 years. InDesign user since version 1.0. Originally used PageMaker, and Quark.
It was a great course (beginners and advanced) to refresh things. The only thing I was missing is how to make a folder or book with the number of pages, the content and general page design as a format. But in only 4 hours you cannot teach everything. It was a valuable course. Thanks.
OMG I've been using InDesign for donkeys years and this vid has just saved me (and my clients) SO. MUCH. TIME. Great little nuggets of info and short cuts in here. THANK YOU FELLOW KIWI.
Hey Dan, I would like to tell you that this has been very helpful course and you have been an awesome tutor during this course. It has really contributed significantly in improving my skill in Indesign! Thanks Dan! and keep on inspiring by publishing such wonderful tutorials!
instead of going back and forward to color object in native app - you can use inner glow (fx - adjust size / choke to suit) to save time and keep to current iD swatches.
The best Id course ever!!! I know what i know and i know what i don’t know now. Thanks to you. I love your teaching style, no gap. I am going to join your full course asap. Thank you so much Dan.
Fantastic job of this tutorial. Super informative and understandable. No waffle and the relaxed Kiwi delivery style provides the icing on the cake. Best couple of hours I have spent on learning for quite some time. Thank you!
I love your videos. I've never used Indesign before and after the beginners course, I'm hooked and now looking forward to learning more advanced techniques. Thank you for these videos, they're brill
Been an Indesign user since the demise of Quark, I'm pretty advanced but honestly,... I learnt shit loads here! Excellent presentation style and delivery! Very well done Dan, the bollocks!
What an absolutely excellent tutorial! Daniel is very clear, informative and easy to follow! I have been using inDesign for years and still learned so much in this video! Thanks so much for sharing what you know and I look forward to learning more!! Great, great class.....
This was the first video I watched from you and it was super helpful! Thank you so much for sharing all of this. I've been using InDesign for nearly a decade and there were still features I didn't know about!
Hey Mate, just want to thanks you for doing these GD tutorials, They are super helpful and your teaching methods are excellent, I've learnt some new skills and shortcuts which will benefit my work flow.
WHAT AN ABSOLUTE AWESOME VIDEO! I have no idea where to start, but some of these tips were just mindblowing for me who have known Indesign for a quite long time. The live stretching, the arrow combo with the Black Arrow tool and gap manipulation were just amazing. I still don't know when I'm gonna use all of this, but I'm certain that I'll!
His first InDesign video was great and easy to follow along with. However, this advanced one is near impossible to follow along because there have been too many changes in InDesign. This one is still helpful to just watch.
Your great, FYI What Font has an extension and you can add it to Chrome and then scroll over any font on a webpage and it will identify the family. Cheers...
Thank you for this amazing tutorial. I have been using InDesign for the last couple of years. Although I use it heavily, I don't really delve into the depths of this amazing software since I use it for work and there are set workflows I have to follow. But this video has some amazing insights and shortcuts that can take my work to the next level. Thank you once again for making such a well structured and well-executed video. Peace!
Yo Nishant! So glad you found some tips on speeding up your workflow. It's hard to get time to step back when you're using InDesign on the daily grind. I'm happy that you took the time here dude. Happy InDesigning. - Dan.

Hey Dan. I m from India I have viewed some of your videos. You're teachings in you tube is clear and understandable. I m a designer and starter of graphic designing planning to take up as a career as in India it is most paid field next to IT. I m awaiting for GD and updated software's that you must upload. You can find my suggestion and queries in comment sessions.
For some reason when switching to the gradient tool. Then, clicking on the *house icon*. I can't change the color. My object is selected, I'm on CMYK mode and everything. The issue is on the "Complex Flower" 1:24:35. I hover over color and I don't get the eyedropper tool. Also, When I hover over "gradient stop color" I get a Stop SIgn-like symbol or black circle with a line cross inside.
Thanks, Dan for your wonderful tutorial. I have learnt a lot from your videos. Here I would love to point out that it seems that the Roboto fonts are a bit dangerious. I installed the Roboto fonts on my computer. Then my Google homepage and Google settings had all the garbled texts. I deleted and reinstalled Google Chrome but the problem still the same. Eventually I found in one article that it is caused by the Roboto fonts. Now I got rid of the Roboto fonts from my Font Book and the problem is solved. I wonder if there's anyone else have come across the same issue as mine. Thanks.

Also, When I hover over "gradient stop color" I get a Stop SIgn-like symbol or black circle with a line cross inside.
Fantastic! Great teaching style! Well organized, smooth presentation.

Thanks.
