I'm No. 568. Glad to have discovered your podcast! Lars Z1IF
Bob at Palomar has a wealth knowledge. I have dealt with Palomar numerous times with excellent service and equipment.
Great presentation Bob. I use a 9:1 unun and was wondering if you have experimeted with making the secondary winding "tunable" to help make a better impdeance match at the antenna feed point?
Sir Bob if antenna switches are earthed are coax filters required ? Bruce
if I have a 55 foot antenna with a choke 12 feet down on the cable where do I put the antenna tuner under the 1:4 unun or behind the choke??? . LA2VLA.
Unless you have a remote tuner, it would go next to your radio. Then a lenth of coax from your tuner out of your shack to the choke then 12ft of coax to the 4 to1.
I suppose it makes sense that there wasn't any video since it's for blind hams.
The video starts at 9:39.
How long should counterpoise wires be? I have read everything from 0.05 wavelength of each band to 1/4 wavelength for each band.
I find by adding cp wires, one band will improve in swr while another band swr is negatively impacted.
I am currently working with a 58’ wire to a 9:1 unun and 50’ rg8x. I haven’t found counterpoise wire lengths that work for each band. Any ideas?
That is a great question. I had to send your question to Bob AK6R for your answer. From Joel W0CAS
@@CQBlindHams Thank you! Hopefully Bob replies. After hours of scouring the internet and Arrl antenna books from the 1980’s to present editions, I was unable to find a definitive answer. Bob has the years of hands on experience so his knowledge will be gold.
I was looking on Bob's website under supalomar-engineers.com/wp-content/uploads/Bullet-End-Fed-Antenna-Typical-Configuration-Notes-03192023.pdfpport and found a great paper that may help you. One thing I noticed lenths of wire for 9 to 1 endfeds which 55 was on the list not 58ft. @@kylefreemason
@@CQBlindHams It becomes confusing because some sites list 55, some list 58 and some list 59.
I know what you mean. I think the simple answer is. Make it long enough to get best SWR on the frequency you like best. Then hope the rest are close enough to be able to match it with your tuner. I bought a older kit 97ft 1.5kw version and it came with 2 CP 1 12ft and 1 15ft. so I tried 35ft more of speaker wire. It works the world from my attic. It even tunes on 160m.@@kylefreemason
This was a great presentation but the camera angle and the hat distracted from the presentation, a LOT!
I "listened" to Bob's presentation, and it was excellent. They obviously had some technical difficulties, but I ignored them.
I like the in formation but i really dislike one of the guys eating/chewing into the microphone while listening. I guess that HAM isn't only blind but also a little bit deaf. LOL sorry
Thanks for watching. I know what you mean and that is why I stopped Bob, to let everyone know they need to mute their mics again. It is a open meeting for anyone to join. Which means some join with phones or computers. We hold these techzooms the second Thursday at 8pm eastern. Link is on www.blindhams.com come join us.
to be honest, i made the comment right before you interupted the video :-) . i guess i just had to wait 2 minutes longer before climbing into my keyboard LOL. srry@@CQBlindHams
I have to wonder why this channel never bothers to answer any of the questions asked in the comments section. Why allow comments if you are not going to answer anyone?
I answer the questions I can. But if you ask a question about a topic that a presenter like Bob is talking about. That question should go to Bob at Palomar Engineering. I always leave contact information to the presentors in the show notes.
