      Yuen Manson It’s much easier to run with others than alone. They also broke the wind for him and kept the pace, by following the laser and around the corners.

      @@yuenmanson9860 He conserves energy by having the pacemakers break the wind for him. If you break the win by yourself for example, you work harder than you should. Kinda like how it works with migrating birds (the weakest ones are in the middle of the formation), or in cycling where the strongest cyclists are protected by team mates

      It is essentially the full sprint speed for most middle aged men for 2 hours, something most middle aged men sustain for 2 minutes.

      TheMightyHarihar Actually most middle-age men can only sustain that for about 45-90 sec, not 120 sec... of course your definition might vary from mine. However, if you live in the western world, then the average middle aged men doesn’t work out and works in an office and has gained some weight

    Seeing the whole running community come together to help Eluid was amazing. Most of these 41 pacers were in their own finals in Doha. Can't wait to see it in a race now.

      ran the Berlin marathon in 2018 in 2 hours 1 minute and 39 seconds so it's very possible he could run a sub 2 in actual race conditions which would be IAF recognised

      @@MonaichFother I doubt it'll happen soon. At the international pro road level, taking 10-25 seconds off in the next 3 years or so may be possible. But the reality is that he'll slip due to age. And who the heck is gonna pace somebody running a sub 2 pace for marathon? At Berlin, they dropped like flies after 20K.

      Best comment ever! I was thinking the same thing. I’m 50 years old and use to run 1,500mm in Latin America and I had a very dangerous running style… never left anything on the track I would pour it all out, by the time I got to the finish line I was almost dead!🤣

      Recovery is almost instantaneous for him in terms of breathing. Don't get me wrong his muscles and body is screaming still looking to recover but his breathing is going back to normal unless than 30 seconds to a minute.

      in another video it explains that living in kenya at 2000m+ above sea level a majority of his life helps a lot with oxygen efficiency or something like that. i guess thats why there is so many marathon runners from kenya.

    I cried as he crossed the finishing line!! Throughout the race my 3 year old would keep on asking, "mum how long has it been?" Has he won yet!! The excitement, the thrill, the celebratory mood in my house.. if only she can really understand what and how this is an inspiration and difficult to achieve!!! I bet one day she will!!

    As someone who was standing in audience today, I must say that I have never before felt such a warm and positive atmosphere at any event. The crowd, the organizers, the athletes - everybody was doing his best and seemed so utterly happy to witness this moment of Eliud Kipchoge making sports history. What an outstanding performance by an outstanding athlete, and a day I will never forget.

    This was such an amazing moment for the sport. I remember staying up until 2 AM to watch this live and I woke my family up when I freaked out when he crossed the line. This was such a huge inspiration for me and my running and now I’m running in college, this was so incredible to watch and I love coming back to this video

    Almost 3 years ago and this still brings tears to my eyes. Kipchoge is truly courageous and exceptional. He practices what he preach...plan and prepare, be discipline, believe in yourself and your team, etc. I love this!!!!

    Many people don’t realize what they just witnessed. take a bike and cycle at 21h km/h for 42k197m and you would know how Eliud mind and body was up to this challenge. Boy, no words can describe this but unbelievable

      With a proper road bike on that flat road on a day with little wind (rare enough in Vienna) that is actually really easy, you would most propably be quite a lot faster than that. But in Running, it is of course an incredible achivement.
