I have to say that Im literally blown away from this concept. I have always struggled with the "breaking your back" concept just for a minor adjustment. Now with the airlift system it will make a world of difference. Im an employee of Guitar Center for 4 yrs now and I can't wait to tell people about this break thru. Also I may just have to order me some for myself!! Keep the good stuff coming DW
For sure! We tested the 9300AL with the Edge snare which is our heaviest snare we have it works great! You will need to guide the snare up for gently but that's all the work you would have to do ultimately! Thanks for choosing DW!!
We appreciate your concern! We tested these stands over and over again with the heaviest toms and snare drum we get mounted to these stands. Randy May has supplied us with great products over the years and we feel confident with the Air Lift system. We love you, too!
Pretty easy. If you watch from the 2-3 minutes marks Randy talks about how easy it is to twist the tom stand and then he pushes the stand back down with his fingers on the heads of the drums to get the whole stand back down. :)
This makes adjusting drums SO much easier. I don't know how many times I've found myself leaning over my kit before a gig trying to adjust the height of my toms!
We think it should. We do not the exact weight on the Tama Bell Brass snare but we tested the 9300AL on our heaviest snare(Edge) that can way up too almost 30 lbs and works great. The way the Air Lift system works it actually likes more weight in a sense.
Thanks for choosing the Performance Series! The Air Lift system has been applied to the Double Tom stand and the 9000 Series stand at this time. We do not currently have a single tom stand with the Air Lift technology at this time. We do take you question as a suggestion and we will make note of it. Thanks again!
We hear you! The way the Air Lift mechanism works is all in the wing screw. When the screw is released the Air Lift naturally lifts the snare basket or top position of the double tom stand. When you have a heavier snare or bigger toms the stand will not lift the drums up automatically but with very minimal guidance you can lift the drums or snare up easily. Hope this helps!
I have the Airlift snare stand and the double tom stand. I gig a lot so I like their lightweight flush base vintage style stands, but the extra weight of the Airlift stands is totally worth it because of how well the technology works. It’s probably the best hardware invention in decades. I also love how you can’t see the Airlift mechanism; it’s just there when you need it.
Thanks for the input. We'll take it to heart. The mechanism would have to be pretty small for the tom arms. It could prove tricky but definitely a consideration.
It really depends on the diameter of the YESS mounts hole. Our tom arms are a 1/2 inch diameter. If the YESS mount will accommodate this size then you are good to go!
Well if you go with all Maple/Mahogany shells you will be achieving the warmth you are looking for. With the Maple/Mahogany shells we do not offer the SSC(VLT, X, etc.) option though. We can go with an SSC combo with Maple shells which would be VLT 8x10 and 9x12, X 12x14 and 14x16 and VLX 18x20.
Working hard with the Kitbuilder people as we speak! We will be able to get a solid launch date as we go. Sorry we can not provide a date at this time. Thanks for being a part of the DW family! Blue Silk Onyx is a great choice!
I'm suprised by DW's excellent customer support. I'm not a DW customer myself, honestly I don't even own a single piece of DW but I wish I did. I mean, it really is a brilliant, private company where customer support seems to be the most important thing. They even answer TH-cam comments and let you know so much about the drums to make you feel comfortable before spending your money. Not a lot of companies do that nowdays, just saying. Peace from Sweden!
Thanks! We are thinking you mean apply this technology to the tom arms themselves? If that is the case we definitely think it is a good idea. We had discussed the mechanism for the Air Lift works best for the actually tubing of the stand.
Sorry if you thought the 9900 tom stand was made in the US. It definitely was designed here. We do make the 9000 pedals, remote high hats and 5000 series specialty high hats here. Thanks for watching!
Unfortunately we are not offering the Air Lift parts for purchase for after market. As it turns out the installation is something that could void your warranty of your stand and there is tooling here that is used specifically for these stands. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Hi all! Thanks again for the feedback. Just to clear up some fears, the MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) for the 9300AL Snare Stand is $189.99 and for the 9900AL Tom Stand is $209.99. Both are approximately $60 more than the standard versions. Please check with your local dealer for their price and product availability. If you live in the U.S., you can buy these stands off our online store here dwdrums(dot)com/hardware/9000/hardware(dot)asp#9kAirliftStands
16x20 would work great for jazz, musicals and church applications. A VLT shell will be good with punch and low end but also you can tune it up for Jazz sessions. It also will carry versatility over all. We say go with a Top Edge and the Die Cast hoops are an option to weigh down unwanted overtones.
Not at the moment. We need the whole make up of the stand itself for the Air Lift mechanism to work. We will definitely make note of your request though.

Sure! We even have made drums similar and made some for some hardworking Firefighters in New York. Nothing we are going to add to our line or add as an custom option. We figure there are plenty of companies making good marching drums and marching drum hardware to leave it to them.
Haha! We promise your toms will not blast off like a rocket. :) Just like the Air Lift thrones(except without an actual lever) the Air Lift mechanism is designed to handle the load and make it easy for the drummer to adjust up and down.
Thanks DW for the response! That's right. That way, I feel, there would be an extra degree of freedom for the toms. This would allow the drummer to perfectly align the membrane of the tom heads as well so that he can strike them with the stick at the desired angle. Just a thought. :)
@apsestasis I share gear at shows a lot and if you've four drummers playing your kit, it's going to be drastically changed around several times in an evening.Everyone has a different throne height preference which means toms and snares will be raised and lowered a lot.If you have quick turn-around times between bands, a very simple feature like this can save you time as well as stress. The airlift feature is worth every penny imo.Well done DW!
Most likely it is part of his custom kit. His shells are a Lacquer Piano black and in the SSC technology. Feel free to loo more into the SSC technology on the link below. Also check out Candyland III video with Thomas playing this kit in it's complete set up. youtube(dot)com/watch?v=UDKUhakxn0A&feature=plcp dwdrums(dot)com/ssc/
Question! I just ordered a DW performance series. Can I order a single airlift tom mount for my rack tom? Would it be on a stand, or is this made to mount on a cymbal stand? Thanks, this is an awesome product!
Hi DW, Awesome! Well applied air lift concept. I was just wondering, if it is not too much to ask, would it not be possible to apply this concept to tilt the toms about their pivot point?
@DrumWorshipInc the double tom stand seems to rotate with a lot of ease - does it move that easy when your hitting the toms or does it lock so the stand can't spin while you play?
Actually the opposite. For SSC we use VLT on the 10 and 12 and X/VLX shell on the floor toms. Check his basic specs below. 8x10 VLT 9x12 VLT 12x14 X 14x16 VLX 18x22 VLX
How does it get the weight right? What if I'm playing like an 8" and a 10" and the other guy is using power toms? Is it going to handle them both the same way or are my tiny toms going to blast off like a rocket? Seems like a really cool invention, I might need one soon!
hey dw, i was wondering if just the internal spring could be sold because i already have the 9000 series double tom stand, but its from last year so it doesnt have the air lift.. im not looking to buy a new stand, so is the just the airlift?
I have those tubes that usually stick out of a bass drum that go right into the toms if you know what im talking about i dont think there would be anyway to mount it it there is please tell me id love to own these stands
So now I am debating on what I want in my shells. I think I want a 10x8, 12x9, 14x12, 16x14, 20x18 and (in that order) I want a VLT, MAPLE X, VLX, Maple/Mahogany, Maple/Mahagony. I want my kit to sound like a Pearl Reference but even better! I want really warm sounding rack and floor toms (almost like marching bass drums) and not much of that "twangy" sound, it's almost like that maple / mahogany jazz/fusion sized collectors kit in that Candyland III video. What are your recommendations?
@@dwdrums my drum lingo is terrible but The rubber seats the rim of the snare sits on that holds the snare in place...mine has these felt straps on them. Not sure if this was for shipping purposes or if they have a funtion

Glad you are liking the Airlift stands! Randy May has been a great partner for us over the years with his very innovative products.
You are very welcome! No Kitbuilder for PDP but feel free to check out the sizing chart for the Concept Series on the link below.
We will always do our best to help! Thanks!

Yes the Collector's comes with the 2 pillow system also. We have been putting 2 pillows in our bass drums for about a year now.

Absolutely!

It's fantastic! I would kill for the tom stand!!
DW is simply the best!!!! Top notch quality. The Bently of drums
That hand shake at the start was straight out of all Aussie adventures with Russell koit....👍
Go with an X shell 7x8. This will keep all the drums in a nice fundamental from high to low.
Great question! No plans right now but you never know...
@WhataDayDan I think Randy deserves all the credit, he created it.
Enjoy your Gretsch kit and DW 9900 tom stand!! No ignorance on your part we feel!

Thanks very much!
it will do it!
He had me at the snare stand , we'll time to up grade all my stands
I agree. Very well put
I think dw drums are the best in the world. I love the quality and punch in the kick. Thats why I chose

And how long do orders take to hawaii? I am ordering it through a store =)
That's why I like only having a 4 piece kit, where the snare and high tom are both on snare stands. Bonham style ftw. Haha
