  • In this video I show you how I reuse paper to make paper pulp for use in papercrete projects. Papercrete is a construction material which consists of re-pulped paper fiber with Portland cement and other aggregates. Personally I use 3 parts paper pulp, 2 parts Portland cement, and 1 part perlite. You can make stepping stones, planters, and other garden art with this versatile material. Thanks for watching!

    Hi there.
My Son is all about reduce-reuse-recycle! Which is awesome! We are in South Africa and are constantly reminded that we are in a water scarce country. So we reuse as much as possible.
Take a piece of shade netting and put it in a bucket. Make sure the ends stick out of the bucket. Pour the pulp into the bucket (onto the shade netting). Now simply take the ends, lift the shade netting and do sort of a twist and squeeze action. Water gets seperated from the pulp and can be used again.
    Thanks for an awesome channel!

Thank you!! Didn't realize I can use paint mixer with a drill. Looks easier for making a large amount of paper pulp compare to me using kitchen hand blender.

Interesting! I have 8 bags (50 lb horse feed sacks!) of shredded paper. Thankfully I tried to avoid envelopes and staples, and stuck to more confidential docs. I have plenty of potential paper pulp. Looking forward to trying this for outdoor decor!

I'm assuming that cross cut shredded paper would work too?

How quickly after making the paper pulp do you have to use it?

I use this to make fairy houses and dollhouses. So far my source has been packing material, but it is highly moulded and I would really prefer it to be flat. Is there a step in the process that determines how textured the dried product is? As I am using it for stones and bricks, I want it to have a lot of texture. Also, can I rewet the very moulded pieces and try to flatten them? Thanks for the video.

The paper pulp and perlite is what gives the texture. Also, if you pack it in really well there will be less texture. You can always add a smooth layer at the end of just portland cement mixed with water. You can also use that method to create texture. Add less water to the portland cement and you will be able to use it similarly to clay.

I know this is 10 months late in reply but I just found this video. Plug in "paint mixer" in your browser and you will get hits. I bought my metal one from Harbor Freight a long time ago. Any sturdy mixer that can handle the pulp will work.

How long can you keep the moistened paper pulp before mixing with cement?

It's going to funky quick, so maybe a day ?? Put some bleach in the water if you need more time.

I keep mine for a few weeks. I keep it in a bucket with a lid. Seems to work well for me. :)
