What a great place! I had the absolute pleasure of spending the week there back in 1991 while on a road trip from the UK, and was hanging out with Al Teague and his crew when breaking the record which stood for a few years with the Spirit of 76 streamliner. A week I'll never forget - but want to repeat again some day before I get too damn old!
Hearing the difference between the air going over a liner and the rest of the cars is awesome. Some of them sound like the air is screaming to get outa the way!
Welcome aboard! Too bad I have a day job, or I'd go everywhere! My next hopeful event will be October at El Mirage Dry Lakes Meet in CA (2 hour Drive, yes spoiled)
Usually pretty mild, 70’s air temp day time, unpredictable at night tho. Storms can show up all of a sudden, high winds will send lightly secured tent’s and canopies to the mountain range. And then rains too, so Mudflats camping can be very risky. The real Heat is On The Salt! The sun reflection cooks you, sun lotion underneath your shorts, chin, nostrils…. Not a place to walk around in skimpy summer clothes (you won’t sleep much after a day dressed like you’re at the beach!😎) I wear long sleeve and pants for fishing, but I’m outside the shade when I’m filming a run…
Yessir. This Speed Week was the first time George allowed another driver, a longtime sponsor of his, he licensed up and I think he got a record as well! Great team and a greater man!
@@JohnWylieMedia I really enjoyed your video!! Thanks for sharing. It was the best one I’ve seen. I’ve known George since I was 5. I’m 59 now & he’s always been a great man. With George what you see is what you get! He & my Daddy were best friends until Daddy passed in August of 2012.
Thanks, it's a dilemma though, whether to be closer to the start for the vehicles that pull the chute after the 3-mile, or locate myself closer to the finish for the fastest runs....so I choose the 4-mile-plus a little, spot.
How about 480mph?? Yep! And one vehicle ran 503mph a few years ago, but the weather prevented them from making the run official with a backup run the next morning.........In it's best condition the salt is hard like concrete. At the start lines you can see the burnt rubber on the surface... However, Mother Nature determines how much water is retained after the Bonneville lake gets rained on each year. And in some places the salt is merely an inch thick, with mud underneath. The racers tell me that it definitely has traction, but again it depends on the moisture in the salt, and the salt can get very bumpy, breaking vehicle parts and causing accidents, therein lies the challenge of Land Speed on Salt and Dirt. Here's a short video I did at Speed Week this year, I show you the salt. thanks for watching! JW th-cam.com/video/ILm_O7Yg7i4/w-d-xo.html

That Dodge Ram spinning at the end.. recovers it, then spins a full 360 again and stops without losing it!! Pretty damned impressive!😁👍
I puckered up watching on a damn cell phone I can only imagine what he felt like wow!! what a run he's ripping too!!

The sound of that flathead when the Mariani Farms liner goes by at 5:20 is the greatest exhaust note in all of motorsports... 😁
Your tracking of the cars is impressive, thank you for the video
Took me several years of practice, thanks for watching! I hope to go in November to El Mirage
Audio on Demon is totally amazing! whoa! Great work.
Glad you like it!
Never heard a flathed at full song before. A different and really cool sound. Never saw a video like this one before. Outstanding.

Thanks for the videos, I look forward to your coverage of Bonneville every year.
I love the sound of these cars, add the Doppler effect and it's even better
Thank goodness that shoot pulled the dodge back straight!
Another great Video .. thank you ... 😎👍
Wow 231 out of a flat head V8 is incredible.
You can get more than that if the gearing was different and it had a hair more HP
@@shorty808100 I dont know that's pretty much pushing the limit right there.
The woman said a peak speed of an unbelievable 312 mph for no.146 the Mariani Farms XF/BFS @ 403cubes.....WTF !!!
ford YEA know shit a 403 Ci flat head they said 302 was the average speed which is the record yea.. WTF

the Dodge Ram sounded the best, man that thing was singing.
5:21 Dude I love this sound of these V8 engines because it has personality
John, great video ... thanks!
Thank You,Thank You, Thank You.
What a save
The last two streamliners had a tire depart the car incrementally at top speed. So which one ?
That was great , thank you so much. !
Glad you enjoyed it!
That was awesome, thanks.
You bet!
Not easy to track at those speeds. Great vid, thanks.

Very cool!!!!!!!!!! 👍👍👍
Amazing speed
Holy shit he's really moving
Wowzza
Moving close to there next spring. What is a normal hi/low temp for those camping at night on the salt?

BIG CHUNGUS!
are the flathead Fords a stock block?
So vast out there. Car could be going 50 mph or 350 and it looks the same to me.
Thanks John
Great vid thanks
Great! Any idea how many of these vehicles have seen the inside of a wind tunnel?
all of them lol

Nice video. Are standard spectators allowed to get any closer? Looks like you cant see much with the naked eye.

Dont ya have a telephoto lens you could use?
Do you mean a still camera with a huge 600mm lens? No image stability like a Sony Camcorder.
