    I knew Bobby Issac, he gave me his googles when I was 11 for my go kart racing. Still have them today. He was racing the number 6 at the time for Frank Hefner. Frank build my modified racing engine out Cherryville NC. We followed Bobby to tracks in NC and SC. He was my hero my whole life. Im 70 years old and that was the best time of my life.

    Ironic that NASCAR didn't like the Superbird and Daytona because they weren't like street cars, even tho they actually were. Today if you took the MFG decals off the cars I don't think you could tell one from the other. Same goes for NHRA. When was the last time a Funny Car or Pro Stocker actually looked like the car they are supposed to be?

      I wouldn't spend a dime to watch a NHRA event. Even NASCAR is starting to be boring. Races are broke down to three secments. If a person was watching a NASCAR race for the first time, they could not tell one make from another. I never thought i would lose interest in watching NASCAR races but, it's happing.

    • @gregorytimmons4777
      @gregorytimmons4777 5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      NHRA Pro Stock is an easy class to identify the cars in. If you know what a Camaro looks like you got P/S covered 100%. It may be the only time in history that a racing class that was intended for any and all U.S. auto brands to compete in has morphed into a spec series unintentionally.

    216 mph- still breathtaking- this is 1970’s technology- We have some “sport” car companies now only reaching that with modern technology.

      There were alot of muscle cars back in the day that could do , 140 150,160 , you ought to be in a pickup doing 130 mph .

    Awesome. I remember when I was a kid watching the races and seeing how cool this car looked and how it crushed the field on performance. Great to hear from the crew and their perspective. I wonder if a movie could be produced capturing this great race experience similar to Ford vs Ferrari.

      I remember watching the race where they cracked 200mph in the late 70s they had found a bunch of horsepower in the off season , ,Nascar was crapping their britches , it was great to watch , but the cars were barely able to handle that kind of speed.

    As a young boy I grew up watching all the greats, of course the The King, the wall trips buddy Baker you know the real racers. How could we have come so far to see such great machinery on the track and there are rumors in the mill that in a few years will be watching the electric vacuum cleaners race. The greats that have passed are rolling over in their graves

    The old cars had more character, even up till the late 80's. Now, they're kind of just rolling billboards now. I do like that NASCAR keeps it raw with no assists for the driver and the driver has to relay back information to the crew for adjustments vs using computers.

    • @CamaroAmx
      @CamaroAmx 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ironically that you say late 80s because the first NASCAR that did not use a single production body panel debuted in the late 80s as the Chevy Lumina.

    • @AnthonyJ350
      @AnthonyJ350 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CamaroAmx I know the Monte Carlos were more "race cars" but they look cool and still really reassemble the factory car. You didn't like the ways the cars in Days of Thunder looked (actual race cars because they raced them in actual NASCAR races to get footage) vs now?
