Lockport Flight of Five Overview | Ep. 3b

This video shows the Eric Canal locks at the town of Lockport. On the left is the current two locks that raise boats 25ft each. It is a unique double lock design, where the lower lock opens directly into the upper lock. On the right is the restored 'flight of five' that was the method to raise and lower barges when the Erie Canal was originally constructed.

Great video showing the old 5 locks and the newer lock also. I am curious if they keep the old 5 step locks operational in case there is an issue with the newer locks so they could keep boats moving thru. When I get there I will have to ask that question.

Thanks 12000Jetlag. My understanding was the old locks were kept in shape for historical purposes but are not used. It's a beautiful spot and worth setting aside plenty of time to explore.
