I stumbled upon this channel when I was searching for this particular recipe and I am so happy. As a Canadian-Asian I was spoiled with parents who are both great cooks and the food options we have in Toronto. Which are no longer available to me now that I live abroad with my own family in Germany, so I began making all the dishes that I missed back home, and the traditional dishes that I love from my time living in Hong Kong. I can't wait for my daughter to try this, she loves turnip. Thank you for sharing and I am looking forward to all the delicious recipes in the future.
These aren't served in dim sum restaurants where I live. Never had these till I went to Hong Kong. Can't wait to try making... 謝謝 for showing us how! This channel is my fave for learning Chinese pastry techniques. And hearing Papa Fung's narration helps expand my Cantonese vocabulary. Priceless, on both counts!
Tried your recipe but made it vegan version and replaced the lard with spreadable vegan butter, it turned out very good for the puff pastry, can't complaint at all. First timer to make this and the taste is amazing ☺️. This puff pastry of your recipe goes well with any fillings, sweet or savoury. Although my sealing the pastry work still needs alot of work, and my pastry do not look as good as your master's skills, I am glad I found this recipe. Love all the dimsum recipes you had. Can't wait to try some of your recipes soon. Thank you so much for sharing your skills. Someone who is vegan/plant based foodie from Sydney and looking for master skills like this.
Hi, thank you for this recipe. I've seen some recipes use turmeric powder to try and get the pastry looking nice and yellow/golden. Would you recommend doing this?
It can sometimes be called cookie flour. I never seen it named that in Canada though. Pastry flour has lower protein percentage (8-9% protein), compared to all purpose flour (10-12% protein). This means that it gives a lighter, flakier dough. I hope that helps
Thanks for your video. Can i replace lard with vegan butter? As I am vegan and amazed at how amazing your skin of puff pastry turn out. I can turn all the fillings into vegetables ingredients but wonder if can replace lard with vegan butter? Thanks for your video again.
@@PapaFungsKitchen thanks for your reply, and also mentioned the temperature to cook the pastry in detailed. Hope turns out positive on my pastry. Thanks again
Hello, there aren’t any moulds for the puffs. They are wrapped by hand. Do you mean the metal pieces for frying? I made those myself. You can use any flat surface that is heat resistant.
Thanks.......❤

Hi, thank you for this recipe. I've seen some recipes use turmeric powder to try and get the pastry looking nice and yellow/golden. Would you recommend doing this?
Hello, I never tried using turmeric powder for this recipe, I’m not sure how it’ll taste. It turns golden brown when you fry it without the powder.
Hi sir, will the pastry stay crispy after a day in room temperature? 😅
It will soften over time. Like any fried dim sum
Hi, what's pastry flour? I never heard of this flour before, could it be called different name? Thanks

你好,請問如果我想做多d保存,係唔係未炸之前放入freezer?唔該
是可以的 。
@@PapaFungsKitchen 唔該你

Hello, sorry I never used vegan butter before, so I'm not too sure how that'll turn out. If it's a similar consistency as lard, I guess it will work.
@@PapaFungsKitchen thanks for your reply, and also mentioned the temperature to cook the pastry in detailed. Hope turns out positive on my pastry. Thanks again
Nice! Oil 100 C or F, please?
Celsius
Sir ... Bisakah ( lard ) diganti dengan bahan lain ?
Anda bisa menggunakan shortening sayuran (vegetable shortening)
Hi, where can I buy the metal mold for the puffs ?

Can i replace ham with other ingredient?
Yea, you can put whatever you want in there. The more traditional ones have ham
teach us the durian version too!!
Someday. My family are not really big fans of durian... We'll see...
@@PapaFungsKitchen okay!! thanks 🥰
can i ask where did you get the deep fry racks ?
I made those myself, since I couldn't find them anywhere. Maybe check out your local restaurant supply store to see if they have them.
💕💐👍👍🙏🙏🙏♥️♥️
Daikon radish is different from turnip.
Good to know! My grocery store just calls it turnip, and some other ones just call it radish, so I thought it means the same thing
