- So some of you will probably remember this property because I've already done 3 episodes here. Back then I decided not to clean up the backyard and some of the front as it was just too crazy. Well, I've had a change of heart, and I'm back to finish off the whole lot. And when I say this yard is crazy, i mean CRAZY! It's full of blackberries, rubbish, old trees and what's left of the garden beds. To get this property back up to scratch, I would say it going to be quite a few episodes. I'm going to do the best I can here, as the homeowner really needs the help. I'm also going to go back over the work I've done, as I could have done better! I hope you enjoy the episode and stay tuned for the biggest transformation I've ever done - What a challenge! All up, I spent around 11.5 hours on this job, including 3 trips to the landfill. FAQ's:
Q: Where are you located?
A: I am from Hobart, Tasmania, Australia 🦘.
Q: Do you worry about snakes?
A: I have never even seen a snake in over 5 years on the job.
Q: Which equipment do you use?
A: Mostly STIHL power equipment (battery and petrol) and commercial Honda self-propelled mowers.
Q: How much do the jobs cost?
A: Sorry, I prefer not to talk about costs. But most of my recent jobs have been done for free.
Q: Why don't you use tarps instead of bins?
A: Tarps are too difficult to move through small spaces and lift into the trailer. The same for wheelbarrows, they are only good for unloading the trailer!
Q: Why are the hot water cylinders outside?
A: I would say it's because Australia had a temperate to tropical climate, and therefore it doesn't matter that much if they are outdoors. To me, though, it seems a bit inefficient to have them outside in Tasmania with a temperate climate (coldish for 3 - 4 months per year). But that is industry standard down here 🤷♂️
Q: Why don't you have help?
A: I've had many problems with employees in the past, so now I work alone.
Q: Why don't you have a ride-on mower?
A: Well, there are a few reasons.
1. I don't have the right trailer for a ride on, considering I always take away the green waste.
2. I don't have anywhere to store it, as my shed is too small.
3. A lot of the properties we do have fences and gates, so you can't actually get a ride-on on to the properties.
4. I don't do enough big jobs to justify spending 15k AUD on a stander, but it would be nice to have one!
5. I will get one as soon as my transport and storage problems are solved.
Q: What types of ladders do you use?
A: The large one is a Gorilla Adjustable Platform 150kg and the small one is a Gorilla Mighty 19. They are both adjustable.
Q: Who/what is Jim's Mowing?
A: Jim's Mowing is a franchise business. The Jim's Group is the biggest home services franchise in Australia.

Remove the clothes line and the chain link fenced cage. Remove the “pond” and the rocks…… get the yard down to grass and remove all else.

Well, I've seen all 3 versions, when is the next one. lol What a yard.
I can remember helping to clean up a huge front and back yard for an elderly couple. It was in a state similar to this. She was 93 caring for her 96 year old husband with dementia. She had 6 children and 13 grandchildren, either living interstate or overseas.
She never told them how bad it had gotten there, as she didn't want to trouble them. She was also ashamed... being extremely proud housekeepers, it was never ever that bad.
They had a beautiful garden and amazing lawns.
It took us a whole week and 5 trips to the tip with three council pick ups, but we got it back to its original 1940s state (we had old photos to go on).
She sat there and cried as she looked around her front and backyard. (He had no idea of the transformation and thought he was back in the late 40s early 50s still)
They had a huge family reunion in that backyard 3 months latter. He passed away two weeks latter peacefully in his sleep and she died in that backyard in her garden chair 6 months after that.
That story made my day. Thank you for what you did. There is hope in humanity yet.

You can see that the garden was once a lovingly cared for oasis for some family! Shame it has been left so overgrown and a rubbish tip. I just can’t conceive of how people can put their litter in bins provided, they are paying for them in their rates. Anyway, as usual you have done a superb job George.🤗🇦🇺
