I am a faithful watcher of farm and homesteader video's and I have yet to get a reply on any of them. I really love the workings on farm life as well as the animals. As I said before you have the best videos showing how a farm really should be. I love the interactions you have with your animals and the love you have for each one. I never knew how affectionate farm animals can be. Also, I enjoy the gardens Jason plants and Brooke showing us how to use the vegetables in different recipes and freeze drying. You are just full of information on everything. I learn from you something new every time. Keep up the good works. With love. ❤

Same here. The original owners of our home had fake French Drains. Nice, but not functional. So, I hired someone to put in real French drains. I did my research on how they are done, etc. I had 4 different people come by to give me an estimate and had them explain what they were going to do and how. Since 1) I am a woman so how would I understand what had to be done, 2) I am an older woman so I probably wouldn’t understand or know what ‘he’ was talking about…I truly hate men like that! I grew up in the South and dealt with that a lot. I grew up in the country and we did not call a repair person to fix things…we fixed things ourselves. Hell, I had grandparents AND parents that lived/grew up through the depression. Well I finally found one gentleman that explained what I needed, did not try to gouge me because where I live, and respected that I asked questions and had him explain. If I ask you a question, I already know what the answer should be. Ugh! Ok, that was a rant! French drain….

Mr. Gregg is the man. I had an irrigation guy put french drains around my house because my patio would turn into a swimming pool. The house was built in 1950 and I bought it in 2003 and no one did anything about the patio flooding! So the drainage guy did his thing and problem solved. I was so happy! No more flooding. I'm starting to let clover take over my lawn this year and I'm going to have to plant more of it. I read about clover and you only have to mow it after it flowers! So I told my gardener to leave it alone until it flowers and he thought it was a good idea. It looks really nice. So we are having a clover experiment here at the house. Oh and the squirrels and birds love the clover too. Also, thanks for the soap tip for cast iron. I was always nervous about using soap. I re-season after every wash.

Hi, Jason back in the day. All we had was cast iron to this day. I still do I love it, but my great Grandma told me you wanna resee's in the PAN every time you use it, but you want to do it when it's hot. Because that's when the pores of the metal is open. It absorbs more of that oil and builds that non stick coating better. Don't know if it's true, but that's what I was told so I thought I'd share it. Cause I'm old older than you guys, but I love your channel.Keep it coming thanks❤

Bad info is everywhere. After boiling water in the pan, scrape with a hard plastic scraper, rinse with clear water, then dry. Sit pan on top of the stove, med heat, for a few minutes for all the moisture to be evaporated. Let the pan cool enough so you won't burn yourself and wipe a thin layer of oil on with a paper towel. If seasoning for the first time, heat, cool, oil 2 more times. Now you're good to go. Most important when using regularly, is heating briefly to evaporate all the moisture. Cool a bit and re-oil. Also, heat skillets well before adding foods.

When I first find a old pan I put that thing in my wood smoker and set a big fire and let r cook. Lol

Hey Jason and Brooke, I had the same problem on the side of my house with flooding. So I had a French drain placed, which is what Mr. Greg recommends. It is the best thing ever! The grates sit a little below the sod and are hardly noticeable. I think you will like it once some grass has grown in. One thing, if you decide to go that route, I would recommend to not go over the grates/drain with the tractor. Use your push mower. Good luck! Stay warm and keep your babies safe and warm! I am northeast of Atlanta. We are getting the same weather as y’all!

What Mr Greg said is exactly what I was thinking for drainage, now!!! If anyone comes near my field cast iron skillet with soap better say their prayers 🤭 It isn’t necessary to use soap and most of the time it isn’t necessary to use water in it, I mostly use mine for eggs and it just get wiped out with paper towel. Now on occasion I’ve cooked something in it that required using water and a mesh metal scrubber I have and even then I don’t use soap but after I’m done cleaning it I put it on the burner to dry it good and while it’s still somewhat hot I rub oil back in it , mostly I just use bacon grease.

My grandma showed me a little hack years ago before it was called “hack” After I wash my pan and before I wipe it with a smidge of crisco ,I set my pan on a warm electric burner (not hot or on) to let it dry while I finish up the dishes. I have a electric range . But if you used your gas oven for meal time you could stick it in your still warm oven too.. All this is after you have dried off your pans and skillets .I haven’t had a bit of rust or sticking drying out this way. Then I wipe with a tad of crisco.

Mootilda sure is a pretty little thang. Y'all are workin on her leg, and hopefully, it will be better than anyone would have expected. I pray she will someday be able to go in with the rest of the cows. 🙏🏼❤️
I am so happy you have decided to switch your tractor so you will be able to use it. Whether it's an antique or not, I think it's pretty, and it has sentimental value, which makes it more valuable than anything out there. I think your grandaddy would have been proud that you got the ole girl running again, and she has a little more giddyup in her hitch! I can't wait to see you drivin and workin her in the fields!
Nice job on the all the cast iron! They look amazing! I'm like you in that I also wash my pan and after I wash it I put a little oil in it with a paper towel then stick it back in the oven while it's hot and let it sit in there til next use. Love your channels. God bless.😊❤

Prayers for California wildfires. It is horrendous! Late last night they put out "All hands on deck for any or all fire protection personnel. No matter how much or little fire experience you have" one site was pulling people onto the street to get the elder residents & aides from the burning building. They had no where to take them, but couldn't leave them in place. They have lost multiple fire apparatus and homes in The area. They've had to pull out and not even attempting to fight the fire. Only saving lives. Winds expected to reach as high 100mph overnight, haven't heard any more this morning. They A.L.L need our prayers and support.

I live in Los Angeles. I haven’t had to evacuate-yet. But friends have. Seeing the embers fly shows how vulnerable we are. It’s scary. I’m praying for all effected by the fires. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

I’ve been using cast iron to cook with for a long time. My Grandmother taught me things back years ago that stands true today with everything we are learning. I only cook with Avocado oil, Ghee, Beef Tallow, organic pure extra virgin olive oil, pure grass fed butter and on occasion organic coconut oil. People would be amazed with their blood work if they stopped all seed oils. I challenge friends and family all the time to have blood work done, stop seed oils and cook with cast iron for 6 months then have blood work done again. Needless to say I have some healthy friends and family now thanking me. Hope your New year is going well!

Jason…. How about a French drain. We had to do that on the side of our house because the house next door was higher up on that side of our property and the French drain worked. Oh, and water did get into our front bedroom from the water draining from their property down onto our home until we put the French drain in and it solve the problem. It’s not hard to do, but it will solve the problem and you won’t have that mess in front of your house and you don’t have to dig a ditch in front of your home.Just a suggestion. Love y’all blessings and thank you for the videos.❤

Great job Jason! I used Evapo-Rust to clean back to bare metal on over 100 pieces of cast iron. Then after proper wash, dry….I put no more than a tsp of Barlean’s fresh organic pure and unrefined Flax Oil, wipe it all over your cast iron making sure it covers all of it and it is wiped ‘clean.’ Since I have double ovens I could do up to 12 items at a time, and ‘baked’ it at 500 (not self cleaning). I did this process 4-5 times for each pan. LOVE MY CAST IRON!

I use mine all the time, clean it as necessary, dry it off, put it on the stove to fully dry then use a paper towel to put a light coat of hard shortening or lard all I er the pan and turn off stove and let it cool. Wipe again with a towel and it's ready for next use. Do this every time unless you don't need to wash it but can just wipe it out after use. So easy to care for.

Thank you for sharing cast iron seasoning advice. I've got a skillet I bought several years ago that I worked on but it's still sticky so I'll try your method and hope I can fix it. I look so forward to watching your journey with your grandpa's tractor and seeing how you're able to work with it! My dad was a mechanic who worked on many different tractors and even though he's gone now, we still have a few of his old tractors and I hope our son will be able to have one when our mom is no longer with us.

That makes a lot of sense on the lye in the soap. I’ve got a Dutch oven pan with the lid, I pulled from an old Homestead. It’s a big rusty looking mess. I’m planning on doing it this Spring. But now I’m wanting to go on and start on it lol..
