The thing about reviews if someone has a great experience with a product they are more likely to not leave a review vs someone who has a bad experience they want to rip the company left and right. If every person who bought one of these and have had no issues all left a good review it would be a different story. Just how I look at it 🤷🏻♂️ just bought this same grill last week and gonna do my first cook on it hopefully this weekend.
@@corymouser1874 I agree, I now only leave a good review or ask for a store manager to praise a employee. If I have a bad experience or product I just say nothing and take my money elsewhere. Lots of the bad comments on this grill, you could tell they had no common sense or were not handy with tools.Enjoy the Superbowl weekend on the grill!
Great Video Hank! I'm on the fence about which grill to get. My favorite BBQ is HEAVY smoked or to the point where it is bitter or almost bitter to the taste. Will this Pit Boss Austin XL get me there? Thanks RG
Haha, meaning as I keep it clean, but don’t regularly follow the “prescribed pitboss cleaning procedures.” Grates get brushed, the plate gets vacuumed, and the ash pot gets vacuumed once in a while. But I don’t do the burn off every cook. And I don’t vacuum every cook. Thank you for the support!!
Are you able to cook in the smoke or lower temp ranges without the fire going out and flooding the cooking box with pellets? My current pit boss isn’t able to do so and I am in the market for a new one.
How is the drip pan for grease? Does it drain well to the spout and bucket? I've looked at the Camp Chef smoker and the drip tray is separate from the burn cover.
justj518 yes, it works pretty good, that bucket fills up pretty quick maybe after about 4 briskets cooks or so. However if what you’re cooking is past the edges of the drip pan it will get into the bottom of the barrel. I haven’t had much build up though as I try to make sure it’s over the plate as much as possible.
Thanks man!! They’re great! Do buy a cover, and do register it with pitboss for a 5year warranty. That’s really it, keep it under a hard cover and covered and you won’t have any pellets getting water in the hopper. Going on 2 years with mine now.
Hi Hanks BBQ. I am wanting a Pitboss Pro 820. My patio does not have a cover. I will buy a cover for the pitboss, but will I be ok if a freak rain shower shows up when I am smoking something slow?
Michael Jones I think as long as you have a cookie sheet banking pan over the hopper and gap between the hopper and the barrel it should be ok. I can’t make any promises though - I have cooked on mine during the rain, but fortunate to have had some cover over it when cooking.

I have the Pit Boss Copperhead vertical smoker and really like. I did see that you took the grid out of the hopper. I’ve been thinking of doing the same on mine.
Hanks Backyard BBQ I definitely concur on safety. At age 77 I am a believer ignorance can be educated nut there ain’t no cure for stupidity. I’m thinking easier to change out pellets instead of fighting the grid. I do wish Pit Boss would have put a pellet chute on the hopper to better direct the pellets into a pail. Still like my Copperhead and am seriously considering going to Wally World and getting the Deluxe. Was hoping to maybe get an end of season price break. So far no such luck.
i was going to to the rec tec upgrade on my XL but decided just to buy the RT700 Bull no comparison in quality between the two smokers but the rec tec is a investment
David Smith I hear ya on that brother! I just couldn’t pass up a heck of a sale on the pitboss Austin XL and haven’t looked back especially after adding the controller. I’m still inter the $498 retail with the 2 combined.

So sorry for the extremely late reply - I am not sure that the Pitboss Austin XL will get you there - I would recommend a stick burner.
