I follow the seesters. Change your blow dryer settings to high & high (heat/speed) for more volume quicker drying & less manipulation. End with cool setting to close your hair pores for less frizz. Finding the right products for weather conditions and hair needs is a challenge and a constant trial. I also follow Marianellyy Diaz. You should check out India Batson she has similar wave pattern to yours.

You can find the same type of brush under different company names at beauty stores. "Denman" is over priced therefore over rated.

I also learned from one girl to shut the defuser off when moving to another area of hair and turn it back on once you have the next section in the defuser and up....then turn it back on-less frizz that way:). Watch Grace Walker-she gives a great demonstration:)

I’ve been doing this method for a long time, and there’s definitely a learning curve. Your hair probably flopped and felt very producty because you used way too much of everything. Throw away the Cantu. Not for your hair type (2a) and it’s much too heavy. It’s made for type 4 coily hair. You have waves, not curls or coils. If you want to use that mousse, your whole head needs a golf ball sized blob. I don’t like NYM Curl talk-leaves a film on my hair. I prefer gel or the foam by Curlsmith. Your hair needs lighter products and heavy products aren’t necessarily more moisturizing; they will just weigh your hair down. Try not to move the diffuser so much when you’re scrunching with it. My favorite lines are Curlsmith, Curls, Mielle, and As I Am. My hair is 2c/3a, high porosity and these are moisturizing without being too heavy. You probably also need a good amount of protein in some of your products. Hope I was a little helpful.

Excellent comments...will use some of those as my hair is finer but I use no silicones and that makes it almost impossible
I find very light oils work with my hair because all smoothing products have silicones...btw frizzy thick med hair is not good sans silicone...it’s a job and a half
Any recs for me would be welcome...I’m working with much thinner hair atm because of serious hair fall from an operation 6 months ago...anaesthetics not good for thick hair, any hair really

AG Recoil was my HG in my late 20s and even Beyond the Zone Noodle Head (Sally's) but now I am 40 and those products don't work for me anymore. I just use Herbal Essences Set Me Up Mousse. Way too much work and way too much product! Curly hair is more water and less product. Obviously if your hair is super long and curly, it’s a little more product but you shouldn’t have to use so many different products to get your curly hair beautiful! It’s important you use a good shampoo and conditioner and one curly hair product that will give you that beautiful coil/curl. Also it depends on how much hair you have. How you defuse your hair is extremely important, you must scrunch to activate your curl prior to defusing then once you start the defusing process, be gentle and make sure the hair is being cradled on the defuser so the curls are very defined. Ain’t no body got time to go through all that every morning before getting to work!

Thank you for your suggestions.. The whole point of styling this way and putting in all of this work is to only have to do it once per week. I got five days of no washing after this style. I could have even gone a full week :-)

Anybody whose been through the Curly Girl “method” learns this - Lol! I think the best things I learned after all the experimenting, is you’ll NEVER reach your springiest curl pattern if you dye and use a lot of heat of any kind often. Also, the product really does make a difference in the frizz amount between high humidity and low. I have my winter and my summer products ... basically if dew points are high skip the products that contain humectants ... they melt, resulting in frizz!

I agree! Way too much work! lol I am 5'8". My hair touches the floor and then some. It is actually curly, but this much primping, applying, and drying would take me until I was due another wash to complete all the steps! In the end, Lisa's hair looked very pretty, though. :)

That’s what I did. I have naturally wavy, type 2A/B hair. I’ve been getting perms for the last year and a half, and now I have 2C/3A curls! And I use a very modified version of the Curly Girl Method to care for it, so my hair is looks beautiful, healthy, and natural. And I just love Manes by Mell! So if you want to get a perm, go for it! Hi Lisa, not sure you need more feedback but I've been doing this for about three years now and I started with the same problem you mentioned, which is that the curls on top don't match the underneath. I can tell you that mine stemmed from heat damage. If you want to see the curls recover on top you'll need to set aside your heat styling. No curling iron, no straightener, just low on diffusing with blow dryer. This will take time. I actually gave away all my heat stylers so I wouldn't be tempted. It took about a year and a couple hair cuts to get that damaged hair out. In the meantime I cut almost all of the drying ingredients (hairspray) and use a very gentle shampoo for cleansing. The reason sulfate free works with CGM is because the products used are water soluble and wash out without cleansers. But not everyone is strict curly girl method, so don't worry about doing it exactly. I do use a mousse and some gel now and get a nice beachy wave to my hair which I love. It isn't always about tight ringlets, most hair textures benefit from this lighter approach to styling. You have to be patient and the results will come. I think your hair will look amazing and be much easier to handle once you get past this phase. I only wash every 4-5 days now. Wash day takes longer, about an hour from shower to done (including plopping), but refreshing is a few minutes every day and my hair looks better than it ever did. Also...it is shiny! I forgot what healthy hair looked like on me. (PS my profile is before I did all this). Hope that helps!

It looks fantastic at the end. I love it

Lisa, your hair looks fabulous! That style makes you look so different. Love it! What you said about sulfates makes perfect sense. Back to sulfates for me! I thought sulfates were drying my hair out and causing the frizz My hair is extremely coarse, dry, brittle on the ends & frizzy. I've got natural curl on the ends and it's wavy.
Thanks for this video, Lisa. ❤🤗 XO

Thank you! I feel that sulfates and clarifying shampoo is a necessity if you use a lot of styling products. It doesn't matter if you use silicone or natural Shea butter, they are both going to wear your hair down and cause buildup. However if you do not use styling products there is no need for sulfates. Maybe once every few months XO

Don’t necessarily need a hairdryer but you probably need a curl cream and gel. 2 extra products outside of shampoo and conditioner and to apply it on wet hair. Wetter the better. Scrunch it up and or plop then don’t touch it, don’t even look at it until your hair is completely dry.

OMG! I have the same problem where my hair is curlier on my bottom layers and straighter on my top layers. My hair is also very dry and super frizzy. This tutorial is on point. I only wash my hair about 1 time per week and am not sure how using all of this product on my hair will leave it. I will probably have to wash my hair the very next day to take all of this product off, but doing this will get my hair super dry and frizzier. Not sure what to do.

I have natural curly hair and I have tried the Olaplex and I hate it.
I us a wide tooth comb on wet hair I never use a brush, no need to keep brushing hair.
Use a diffuser blow dryer and some other great products.
And you used too much mouse.
Also you do the roots last use the diffuser from the bottom of your hair and push it up with the dryer
    Good Luck

Looks lovely Lisa ❤️ perfect for giving your hair a break from heat tools..my hair is like yours , I used to be a hairdresser and the more sappy ( soaked ) your hair is the more it will curl.. not dripping tho 😂... By the way I use the no 6 olaplex and I find using less product is better because it can counteract curls...also when your trying to tong ur hair it drops quicker...apart from that it's a fab product!!....loving your hair colour...I'm planning to lighten mine after going brown again 🙄..then feeling dull 😂 xx

I use a clay mask to blast the buildup off, wash that off, then follow it with apple cider vinegar and water as a rinse along with Castille soap with water and essential oils. The other stuff STRIPS! That's why I add the essential oils for softness.

Lisa, do you only take hair vitamins daily or along with other multivitamin/vitamins? And, do you ever take a break then start taking them again? I switch it up every now and then, sometimes only taking hair vitamins then only a multi, then stop for a few days here and there as well. Just wondering if you do that or have a set in stone regime? 😁

Lisa, I forgot to mention I have 3 a&b curly hair. It is considered fine. If I want tighter curls & more definition, I use a Denman brush. It works great. I also do the reverse of the LOC Method - LCO. So my curls don't weigh down, I use light products. My fav leave in conditioners & cream brands are by Aussie, As I Am, Not Your Mother's & Cantu. Since my hair is on the drier side, I use Palmer's Olive Oil Therapy on my ends only. From midway to scalp, I switch up between coconut oil & the drugstore bottles. Like OGX. I do not use mousse nor gel, because I personally like softer, more natural looking curls. Plus 😆 I don't like that hard "crunch" look. Every curl pattern & hair texture is different, right, so we just have to do trial & error of what products works for our hair. Some of us girls don't mind putting in "more work" on our hair, while others choose more simpler routines. I deep condition at least twice per month. More in the Summer. I wash every other day. Your hair turned out great 😃

Lisa, you can get more curl on the outer layer by applying more product. The not your mothers doesn’t work as well for me as Dove mousse mixed with Herbal Essence totally twisted curl mousse. I do use the not your mothers curling cream first. Then spray all over with the Dove hairspray before drying. Give it a try. Also, I use the Generic version of Sebastian Wet sculpting lotion first. I get it at Sally’s. No buildup. As the days go on I get more volume and curl. It does turn out a little stiff, so I shampoo at night before bed. Sleeping on it makes it better. To refresh in the am, just rub some mousse into your hands until it’s liquified and scrunch. That’s it. The Dove will make your hair feel soft and smell amazing. Check my Instagram for pics of my hair if you like. Good luck ❤️
