    My Great Uncle lost his life at Cantigny.
    Thank you for a well done documentary of the changes in uniforms during the Great War.

    • @SirBoggins

      Sad that he had to lose his life at all; no disrespect to his memory, but he fought in the Great War, a war that amounted to nothing more than an imperial dumpsterfire fuelled by colonial rivalries and arrogance between competing nations. However, I'm sure your great uncle was a good man though.

    Fun fact: the WW1 Mess Kit lasted all the way until the 1990s with very few changes. The canteen lasted into the 70s.

      Even with the change to plastic, the shape and style remained unchanged. Except a widening of the mouth.

      @@jonathannixon8652No. The M1910 canteens were out of service in 1962 phased out by the M1961 Plastic canteen in OD Green. Some M1910's remained in service during Vietnam but only really early like 1965-66.

    I'm a Civil War living historian (54th Mass) trying to expand my horizons into other eras, before and after. I've been watching a TON of videos on WWI history and reenacting. Zero African Americans except in the period photos. You have a Black face in a blue helmet in the 1st 30sec of this video. THANK YOU
    (I've seen other Lionheart Films I liked, too. Keep up the good work)

    The Marines turned in their Green Uniform for Army Brown. The Generals were afraid the they would be mistaken for German Green Uniform.

    • @huntclanhunt9697
      @huntclanhunt9697 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Sort of. They wore brown into combat but rear echelon kept wearing them.
      Also it was logistics, not fear of friendly fire.

      Germans wore Field Grey not GREEN??? The US wore Olive Drab in various shades NOT BROWN!

    • @midwestvikings5239
      @midwestvikings5239 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tmoney007confederation7they didn’t wear grey, they wore green/olive coloring and the Americans wore brown. I’m WW2 the Americans swapped the brown out for green but the Germans kept the green colorings.

    • @Kaiserstudios1
      @Kaiserstudios1 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@midwestvikings5239Actually that's not true. While the US Marines wore the newly introduced Olive Drab Uniform to distinguish against regular US Army infantry on the battlefield (Doughboys) The Germans used the M15 tunic and trousers most commonly and sometimes sore use of M14 tunic with red highlights. They were in Feldgrau (Fieldgray) and were not green/olive colouring. The M15 was a bit more bluish-gray but there was no green uniform for germans. Do your research.

      Logistics. General Pershing refused to get a separate source of supply for the marines, any combat or replacement uniform (whether their old uniforms were torn/exposed to gas) was a standard issue m1912/17 uniform.

    In regards to your video here of the the different uniforms worn by the different services of the AEF there's a couple of things.
    1st. On the U.S. Marine Corps Captain, 1917, You missed one important thing, he's missing his USMC Officer's Eagle, Globe, and Anchor insignia on his collars.
    2nd. 3/4th of the Marines of the 4th Brigade (Marine), 2nd Division, AEF (including the two Marine Corps Replacement Battalions) were in the U.S. Army 1912 OD winter service uniform even before they left for Battle of the Aisne (Belleau Wood) in late May, early June, 1918.
    3rd. What period in 1918 is the Marine Sgt. with the M1897 suppose to be representing?
    Because if that's suppose to be BW, that's incorrect as well.

    Evolution is a very curious thing, it show's how lazy people are, or can be when it comes to advancements and people's lives? WE must move faster in our minds, and implement our ideas, vs the greed of politicians, ugh.
