Explorer ST S&B Intake Install

- In this video I replaced my AFE intake with the new S&B intake. The quality is super nice and in my opinion looks so much better than the AFE. I took some data logs and sent them to Adam from ZFG with the AFE intake and S&B intake to see if we can see a difference between the intakes. As always I really hope this video helps someone out do their own install. Of course I got the hook up for the intake! You can get yours right here!👇

Got the same intake. Idk why it gets some hate ive seen on some forums. It's overall a nicer unit, imo. The lid on the filter box is what sold me. The unit has been flawless!
I completely agree the fit and finish and over all look is super nice!

I ended up using a hose clamp on the intake tub that come from the snorkel to the airbox. Sit in the box snug and secure.
Yes that is a good idea honestly! I’ve heard they updated the box to fix the issue but haven’t verified it
@@HoustonSpeedFreaks I spoke with them last week to get some replacement filters. They said they actually started supplying a couple extra hose clamps to do just that.

Nowadays in 2024, the s&B intake is almost $100 cheaper than the AFE which is phenomenal!
This is true but also it stays on back order as well

Great video man! Mine will be here Thursday. Can’t wait to install it. Did Adam say how long before he had the data log back? I know currently the AFe outflows the FenFab set up.

@@HoustonSpeedFreaks I’m thinking the same thing! I don’t think numbers will change much. But power band might look better! S&B really did a good job utilizing all the space they could.
Unless it adds more HP it’s pointless to change it out from the aFe. Need someone to do some dyno tests, I say you do it 😂
Already sent data logs of both the afe and S&B to Adam to see if one make a noticeable difference in the power band mainly switched for the aesthetics as it looks way better in my opinion

Official word was it moves your waste gate duty cycle roughly 10% which make room for more powa baby 😏😁
Do you recommend installing the FenFab coolant tank before installing the cold air intake? Does it make it easier or harder?
Don’t necessarily make it any easier to be honest the intake doesn’t really get in the way
What's up dude. Do you remember if the air box on S&B was air tight? Is there gaps where pipes are coming in to air box ?
Yes sir it was tight the filters seal to box.

Hey Travis, does the cold air intake draw air from that pink piece you put on in the intercooler video? That sits in front in front of the intercooler? Is that where the air is drawn from and then goes thru the filters to the turbos? I see on your website you sell the cfb intercooler? When you installed the intercooler is there enough room to leave the shudders in place? Or do they need to be taken out? Do you by chance sell the s&b intakes as well? Also, have you ever had any code or alarm thrown from the intercooler on the dash? Thanks,
Hey brother yes the pink this is from velossatech I have them on my Website now. I have had no codes related to the intercooler and you don’t need to remove your shudders it was just a personal choice of me deciding to do that 😁

Im finally getting my S&B tomorrow. Is it work having Adam send me a revision? Running his e50 tune now for about a year.
He’s changed a bit in a year I would say yes as it’s not to expensive to get a revision 😁
What was the difference between the AFE & S&B when it came to how the log looked? Were any tune changes made?
S&B flows better than afe on the logs for the top end 😁
Question. Those AFE Dry Flow and would they fit S&B piping ?
Negative S&B piping is bigger than the afes

20/21 explorers had a tune that plugs in there 22+ don’t. And yes sir this intake works with fenfabs stuff
Did u get a check engine, i just instaled mine started reved few times it was fine and now started again n got check engine on

How long did it take you to get yours. I ordered mine 20 days ago. Everytime I call they tell me another week, or another two weeks.
Did you get piled or dry filters? I was told the dry filters were on back order
@@HoustonSpeedFreaks I got the dry filter . I’m down in az and the oiled filters don’t do well out here in a daily hahaha. Biweekly sand storms and all.
How often do you need to clean the cones
Honestly once every few months minimum I would say twice a year. I check mine every oil change while I’m under the hood

Do these still throw check engine light after install ik the afe do thats the only thing holding me back from picking one up
No they do not, I have it on my 22 , I’m also not tuned and I have no check engine light.
My afe never threw a code at all and this one hasn’t thrown a code either.
I got a cgeck engine light on mine gotta check it what it is tomorrow

Everyone keeps calling this an intake...... Isn't it really just your filter box? The intake should be bolted firmly to the top of the motor????
That would be your intake manifold
And intake is where the engine intakes air to feed the engine. But you aren’t wrong it could be called a filter box too.
