    Skoda officially has become better and more attractive than Volkswagen 👍Who would have thought that in the 90's..?

    The story I know is that Skoda used both VRS and RS but was forced to use VRS in the UK because Ford sued them over the use of the letters that they trademarked. VRS supposedly stands for Victory Rally Sport, by the way

      +Autogefühl Choosing between 2016 Citroen C4 PureTech Intensive (level), automatic or Cactus Shine with automatic. I also checked Ford Focus, VW Golf and Skoda Octavia but those were too expensive for the level of comfort and gadgets, and C4 campaign included automatic for FREE. So thanks!!!!! :D

    Thanks for the review. The 230 does come with GPS as Standard in the UK! I like the 230 version, however, the limited number of colours put me off. I got the 220 vet in race Blue with the 19 inch wheels. Love it. Ignore the badge snobbery, it's just as good to drive as a VW, Seat or Audi!

      +dramosuk Hi Dram, does this mean the diesel also comes with it?! I've just ordered my 16 plate vRS and it's in build now and was kinda expecting it to come with the 8 inch screen and nav system?

    • @dramosuk
      @dramosuk 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +conmancleall0 The 8inch screen is an option so unless you ordered it with that you will only get the smaller screen but yes should come with Sat Nav. To be honest best to get the option that comes with CarPlay and Mirror Link. I use my phone maps as it's much better than most built in systems! I just wanted the larger screen size and didn't like the look of the smaller standard screen!

    • @thebesttheworst2277
      @thebesttheworst2277 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Any opinion on the ride firmness and crashy feel some journalists mention on the 19 inch wheels ?
      Road noise ?
      One journalist says the 230 sits 13mm lower than standard vRS but they share same suspension ... pot holes a problem with those extreme alloys ?
      Thanks

    • @dramosuk
      @dramosuk 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +thebesttheworst Well I can't say about the 230VRS as I haven't driven one. However, I used my VRS to ferry my family and no complaints. Not too harsh at all. I too read reviews about the road noise and rough ride. I thought it would be bad but honestly it's not that bad at all. Sound insulation isn't that bad, at lease in my car (UK). Can't comment on cars from other countries. And they look awesome!

  • @kjetilros

    Best reviews on TH-cam. Detailed and informative. You are doing a good job. Keep it up..
    I have also tested the rs230. Very good car. Only minus some cheap details. The boot floor is a thin wood plate. Too little noise insulation in the rear. Best part is how it drives. Fast and with good grip. The bang from the exhaust gave me a laugh everytime. I drive the DSG. Highly recomended.
    I would give the RS230 5/6. Its a bit pricey in Norway due to taxes. 58000 euros. 😁

      +bills2north its crazy. Only the small engines are cheap. And diesels. Diesel vrs 184hp is a lot cheaper.
      Right now I an not sure Of buying the 230 or another car in same group. Need some performance. Audi s models way too expensive though.

    it needs to be called the vRS in the UK because Ford took Skoda to court for using the RS moniker and won. the symbol before the letters can also be referenced to "the diacritical [Caron] mark you see above the S in Skoda [Š]" - a quote taken from a Skoda customer services letter to a member on BriSkoda.net :)

    Excellent review Thomas for a great car ! I've got the Octavia 2nd generation sedan, with the normal engine 1.6 mpi 102 hp and I'm very satisfied with it. It's a beautiful and very practical car and remains the same for the actual generation, just a little bit bigger. But as I said in the other comments my next car definitely will be the Superb Style due to the full safety features, such as: ( Blind Spot Detection, Dynamic Chassis Control and Adaptive Cruise Control ) together with Alcantara, GPS, TDI 150 hp, DSG and keyless entry/keyless go without key, which has a very good ratio between the price/ quality for a non premium car, with a limo shape.

    Nice review Thomas, thanks!
    Hard for me NOT to like this car, as I imagine a lot of the experience is very similar to my own car (a Golf GTI). Key points that make the car so much fun to drive are the excellent engine, the progressive steering and (in my case) the DSG gearbox. That combination makes it easy to go fast if you want to, but just as easy to go on a fairly relaxing cruise.
    Funny that you said you thought the steering wheel was so 'Audi like', as that was exactly what I was thinking! I really like that one.

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      :) yes indeed! It is basically a golf

  • @spoonyspoonicus4648
    @spoonyspoonicus4648 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    the steering is speed sensitive so will weight up when your going faster. putting a car in neutral uses more fuel than coasting because modern engines use no fuel when the engine is been turned by the wheels. If you take it out of gear it needs fuel to keep the engine running.

    Great review, I have A diesel Vrs ordered for January 2017 here in Ireland.
    My question is regarding the steering feel you mentioned about the steering not being heavy enough for a sporty car but with the performance pack like the one in this car (which I have added as an extra) if you selected sports mode it is supposed to change the weight of steering aswel or did you not notice much of a difference from sport mode and normal mode?

    I love this car, well the 220, the mpg is the big killer that pushes me to the diesel, which then pushes me to the Leon st FR, AZ I recon t that is an even better price and drives slightly better.
    But I so want the petrol 😕
    Nice review yet again. I have noticed you don't like real leather seats, why is that, are you a vegetarian? I personally don't like full leather seats, and always prefer half leather and cloth, mainly because leather is always rather too cold or too hot.

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thank you for taking interest in this very important topic!
      First to the practical reasons:
      1. animal skin seats get hot in summer and you stick to the seat
      2. they are cold in winter
      3. on cloth or microfibre, you basically don’t need seat heating nor cooling
      4. animal skin seats wear out very fast and look like granny’s old sofa
      Now to the environmental reasons:
      1. There are productions where the cow is killed for the skin first, sometimes even alive, the skin is the most profitable part of the body.
      2. Even if a cow gets killed for meat first, you give additional money to an industry that relies on murder, pollutes the environment and harms people with chemicals
      3. Does it really matter for which cause a mammal, that is 99 % genetically identical with us, gets killed?
      4. To the often said argument, animal skin would just be a byproduct, please google/youtube "leather is not a byproduct" you will find plenty of information. A good overview on all those issues can also be found here: adaptt.org/
      Special videos:
      1. A special video from Autogefühl considering the use of leather can be found here: th-cam.com/video/8f91KgbVbJQ/w-d-xo.html
      2. And another one right here: th-cam.com/video/tMNgcLE0LDU/w-d-xo.html
      3. Furthermore, you’ll find footage of leather production here, th-cam.com/video/JipYvuDsI6s/w-d-xo.html
      timecode starting 27:46
      Help to raise awareness on this subject. Thanks!

    • @Pyroteq
      @Pyroteq 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This information is false. You're talking about genuine leather which isn't REAL leather. Real leather seats will last longer than pretty much any other material.
      Genuine leather gives leather a bad name. Real leather doesn't peel and look awful. In fact, many leather products actually look better with ageing.
      It's a shame to see so many people bash leather when they've never actually sat on REAL leather thanks to cheap manufacturers calling their products leather when it's mostly made up of glue and other synthetic crap.

    Terrific review. Thomas is discerning and thoughtful, so his opinions are well founded, but he is comfortable granting that other people might have other values and views. I'm an American trying to evaluate cars for a friend in Belgium. She dreads the whole car purchase thing and wants help. I've never seen a Skoda. Based on reviews like this one, I will recommend that my friend give Skoda a good long look.

      +Autogefühl I really love Space and the classy exterior looks of the superb, but I wouldn't want to pay 600€ to repair some piece, if I could pay 200€ to repair the same piece for the Octavia, or between them there isn't such a big difference? Thank you! :)

    Thank you Thomas for the test, i didnt like the colour of the car, also didnt like the rims, rims and colour of car not compatible and they look unglamouros. I want to learn the breaking disc and pads are the same as normal version octavia? Thank you again.

    Now you got me really thinking there Thomas. Octavia RS or Superb.
    The new 2018 octavia front looks bad in my opinion. Those headlights... ugh.
    Tough choice since either has something the other hasn't but that I want. Octavia has trailer assist which the superb has not. The superb has dynamic light assist which the rs has not. The trailer cuppling solution is better on the superb. Price is also to be considered. I'll testdrive the rs so I can see and feel the difference. The superb was absolutly stunning to drive. Great car.
    Seats will definitelly not be genuine leather. I have leather in my current car which is almost 8 years old and it looks like shit. Alcantara cloth is so classy, it makes leather obsolete. Only advantages.

      The Czech police use them. In fact the taxi companies use them all the time. They are very popular over there. When I was in Prague outside my apartment was a view of the street and almost every car was a Škoda Superb.

    Great review Thomas, thank you - , by far the best on the internet.....honest and insightful. Am hoping to look to replace our 10 year old A4 avant bought when we first moved from Australia to Bochum 4 years ago. (we got something "sensible" to begin driving in Germany and our boys were only 3 and 5 at the time, so no more needs to be said there!). I recognise many of those roads from enjoying them on my race bike (cycling) around Elfringhausen Schweiz! ....Felderbachstraße is a favourite on the bike also! ;.)

      Hi Thomas... well, funnily enough that was a question we got a lot here when telling people we´d come from Sydney! ;-) .... but seriously, life in Sydney is actually very VERY expensive for a family and property is almost unattainable. My wife is German, and we met when she was in Sydney learning English! After 25 years there I was bored anyway so we looked to come to Germany. She is a Prof at the Fachochschule in Bochum and is very good at her job and - for the most part . enjoys it. And I´m the type to like a new challenge and soething different....who doesn't want to start a new life in a country where you must learn a new language and other stuff at 50!? ;-) I miss some of my friends of course, but living in Sydney ... not a bit. Funny enough I find some Germans attitude to the Ruhrpott very funny and find they understand or like it less than I do, often having a very old, "1970´s" attitude to it and expect everyone here to walk around wearing safety hats and steel capped safety boots all the time!! :-)
