Well. Humans actually can take a round or two of birdshot. We would die. Eventually. But birdshot doesnt really have the same stopping power as buckshot or slugs
@@Vaginacide Any projectile starts losing momentum as soon as it leaves the barrel due to wind resistance. Buckshot or birdshot, either one would lose more momentum before it hit the pizzas, and thus with distance the pizza guy has a better chance to survive the hit.
Something else that's missing from the myth is the fact that some pizza companies, that shall remain nameless, have delivery bags with a light weight piece of metal in them to help keep them warm... Used them when i drove delivery... Rechargeable bags....
A few yrs back, when I was delivering pizza, we kept a square metal plate (aprox 2 mm thick alu or similar) in the bottom of those bags to keep the heat longer. (Up to 15-20 min in the car before the pizza got cold.)
@@MeepChangelingan aluminum plate as such would most certainly provide some degree of protection. It’d likely stop the birdshot cold and possibly even deaden the blow enough that you don’t die instantaneously from the buckshot.
thats what i was thinking, the distance that the shooter was would affect how much the bullets would penetrate but most likely to a minor degree that wouldnt really vhange the outcome.
Thank you myth busters for the 50 bucks. I told a friend it would take about 15 pizzas, to stop a shotgun blast. And he said yeah birdshot Maybe. And I said buckshot, knowing this video would be somewhere. Thank you.
i deliver pizzas every week. the bags all have a warmer plate inside if them to help keep the pizza warm. we have one that is not working... i will see have to see if i can use it and experiment.
maybe the guy was wearing something heavy like a carhart jacket, That would prob stop the remaining few pellets that made it through the box, So many variables
@purenoobable It's called a shell. The bullets are shot from gun powder stuffed inside those to fire, then they eject when re-pumping the gun, letting you shoot another one.
I had the same thought, personally I prefer a large steel plate covering the entirety of my pizzas. Although I do doubt it would do anything, it would be worth a second test.
It's a similar dilemma with that 'sniper shooting through the scope' episode. There they didn't consider the fact that the shooter was using military FMJ ammo, here they both aren't considering chamber length or makeup of the box or even the pizzas.
The problem with this myth is that your random thug would almost definitely NOT be using bird shot. If you were gonna murder and rob somebody's ass he would most likely be using buck shot or a slug, so yeah, still lethal with just one pack.
In my country you can't buy buck shot. Not even hunters are allowed to use it. Maybe he was from a country where buck shot is not available. In most of those countries pistols and rifles are very hard to come by. Bird shot from a shotgun is likely the only thing you have access to.
@paudiemaguire1 Think about this, in an urban combat situation, where you have a team slowly moving through a series of rooms in a building, as soon as a door opens, a person wont be more than 12 feet away, (though probably closer because I doubt they would be standing against the far wall like an open target). And a gun fight does not last as long as you might believe, and most are in quite close quarters. Especially during a breach. Its just, open, sweep the room and kill.
A lot of bags have a steel warmer plate in the bottom or a thick hard plastic sheet. With all combined distance shot size and heating plate could stop bird shot easily .
@solittleusernames You got it. Even Dragonskin (the Level III kind) wasn't designed to stop a 50 BMG. Frankly I don't know of any personal armor that can. I know Pinnacle is working on a Dragonskin vest that's supposedly off the NIJ scale (supposed to be Level V or something like that), but it's still in the works and I'll bet its price will be quite hefty, so it'll be very limited in who has the money to buy it.
Hrm. I have one issue with this--they go on about the shot penetrating, but not once did they take a look at the *gel* to see if the ones that made it through had enough force left to do lethal damage.
The thing with the bird shot is it depends on the choke if your using the widest choke you can find for your gun the pizza boxes would probably deflect all of the bird shot cause it's not putting pressure on just one spot
It is such a frustrating story because of the lack of details. My first thought was birdshot ain't going to get through, but a solid slug on the other hand... and was waiting for them to upgrade to a shotgun slug, and they never did it. :(
@paudiemaguire1 a trap load or anything smaller than # 7 shot maybe. I'm pretty sure # 6 shot could make it threw. # 6 dose a number on a rabbit or a pheasant at that range. Also no one would ever use anything less than # 3 buckshot for home defense. So fallowing the myth, whatever came out of that gun would not be stopped by 3 pizzas.

What I'd like to know is how far away the shooter was and how thick the pizzas were. If they were the Chicago variety, this gets way more plausible.
Considering that a civilian was shot, I wouldn't be surprised if it was Chicago
Skoba LOL

did they even shoot it at the same distant that the thief shot at? they looked a bit close to the pizza box
that's what I'm saying. some times just because people can be smart, that doesn't mean they have Common Sense.
+GrandNecro shotguns are close range weapons. It is reasonable to assume that they would be at a close distance.
I think if they test close range, it'd instantly debunk any longer ranges.

"Birdshot into three pizzas"
You would only ever hear this on mythbusters.
When the mythbusters were doing the water bottle flip challenge before anyone at 2:05 😂
But it's way easier cause most of the weight is around the primer.
B-rad Wall-e primer has more weight. High chance of it dropping like that.
B-rad Wall-e But more badass
rest in pepperoni :(

I think it's really clever how you took a video from the 2000s and managed to make it look and sound like it's from the 80s.

I was literally taking apart a shotgun round and finished just as Jamie explained what was in the bird shot.
"ho ho check out mah new bulletproof vest you cannot hurt me!"

WRONG. It is very hard in some countries to get buckshot. So most people with shady backgrounds use birdshot.
In my country you can't buy buck shot. Not even hunters are allowed to use it. Maybe he was from a country where buck shot is not available. In most of those countries pistols and rifles are very hard to come by. Bird shot from a shotgun is likely the only thing you have access to.

haha that was a good episode, i would guess the larger surface of pepperoni would be more resistant to bullets rhan other toppings
they practically shot at point blank so they didn't really need to check if further ranges did less damage

The stopping power of a slug is greatly under rated me thinks. Wish they would have tried that.
The irony of 2 guys "killing" the animal again.
One does wonder if different toppings might affect their shotshell resistance - such as my favourite, kevlar with extra cheese.
A lot of bags have a steel warmer plate in the bottom or a thick hard plastic sheet. With all combined distance shot size and heating plate could stop bird shot easily .
Another thing conspicuously absent from the myth is the range from which the gun was fired. That would make some difference.
Well, they played worst case scenario, close range with a Shotgun is as bad as they get, so if it could survive close range, it could survive longer.
bucks gh ot at long range especially magnum loads could easily kill you a 25 yards which is what I shoot mine at.
That is a great bullet proof vest!
ROTF, oh my gosh that is funny as heck! Guess I'll get pizza more often so the pizza guy can protect me as well as feed me. x D
Actually, that was the Barrier Vest made with nylon and steel in 1969. The kevlar was introduced in the mid 1970s by DuPont.
Wow, I want a bulletproof vest like this one :D The great thing is that it might come in handy if I get hungry, lol
As they said, specific round is missing, they also didn't mention guage or range as said in another post.

Why was someone shooting a pizza delivery guy with a shotgun? How much money do you think he has bro?
well you'll survive a point blank shot to the chest of bird shot
Adam is my favorite Mythbuster because he is sooo funny
I think the reason it didn't block the pellets all that well was because they ate all the pizza before testing it XD
@paudiemaguire1
but if it's too far, wouldn't the spread of the shot be greater than the area of the box?
Me too.Its not like they're covered in gun powder, only bit swizzy cheesy :P
That made me laugh pretty hard, I must say! Good one!
Now I want pizza!
U should try a slug round
all depends on the type of round and distance, farther the distance, less it'll penetrate.
just imagine if you got shot holding 5 pizzas you would live but you would be on your damn ass for a good minute
the real question is how many would make it through if you compressed those boxes together?
The Pizza bags at my Pizza store have 8 inch metal plates on each side. That would definitely stop it.
The thing is, as weak as birdshot is, it may not have been lethal even without the pizza box.
Mmm lovely 2009 480p quality!
Most impractical but tasty bullet-proof vest ever. lol.
the pizza looks like paper
Watching this while eating a pizza 😋
Perfect audio.
correct me if im wrong but dont some pizza bags have heated metal plates in them ?
Uses buckshot "moves up to point blank range"
If only they'd used edible buckshot, then the glorious pizzas might still be edible.
maybe he was carrying the pizzas to his vehicle. jamie just showed you can carry them all at the same time

my speakers didnt appreciate the audio onslaught

Unlike everyone else, I only clicked on this because I was about to go play some BF3 with my leftover pizza and pepsi
What about a slug? That might not have the ability to get all the way through... it would knock the pizza guy on his rear end, but I think he’d live.
If a true story, entirely plausible, it most certainly was birdshot and the assailant probably knew
